SPOILERS BELOW
I liked it a lot.
I haven’t seen it yet but I am sure it’ll be decent
I’m gonna go hunt for spoilers
Tagged the title for potential spoilers, just in case someone is foolish enough to click this without thinking… lol
I’m going to watch it, I am a huge star wars fan, yet ive never watched original saga.
@SereneFlight You do know Lucas isn’t a part of the franchise anymore, right? He sold it to Disney. He isn’t involved with this movie, thank God.
I felt Kylo Ren was badass before he removed his mask. At which point it spiraled into Anakinville. He is still a better character than prequel Anakin but not by a lot. Also he fucking killed Han Solo! FUCKING FUCKER SHOULD FUCK A FUCKING PINEAPPLE!
I’m just back home from the filmtheatre and I agree with @cornJester
The problem I had was that Kylo Ren removed his helmet waaaay too soon. Now I still think he was a decent villain after that happened. The problem I had is that a lot of the mystique around the character was destroyed by removing the helmet. I expected it to happen but I thought it would be in front of Han Solo and in a later movie.
Another thing that bothered me a bit was the fact that they were chasing BB8 because they wanted to find the last piece of a large map so that they can find Luke Skywalker. The time it took them (all those years) to get that piece is so long that it could very well have been that Luke akready moved away from that place.
I guess you could argue that the map is there only hope to find him but in the film it feels like it’s certain that he will be there.
Also Han Solo dies => which is sad
Not sure what to think of this decission by J.J. Abrams. On one hand it feels like Alien 3 where I actually applaud the director for having the balls to do this. On the other hand Alien 3 was meant as the end of the franchise (and no Ressurection should have never been made fcking cloning bullsht) while Star Wars VIII and IX are already scheduled so killing Han so quickly in the new trilogy seems like a bit of wasted potential to deepen out the story between him and Kylo Ren (Ben).
Another minor problem is that the dividing between Rey and Kylo at the end of the film (with the earthquake => It just screams see you in the next movies. But you immediately think “Hold on a second if Rey already showed that she can beat him in a straight up fight then where is the tension for the next encounter?”. Granted Kylo was wounded but still… But it seems like the movie knew that as well that’s why they quickly threw in that one line by Snoke “It’s time to finish Kylo’s training” => that feels a bit forced to me (get it “forced”… XD… nevermind…
So those are my problems with the movie. Overall I really liked it though. Good cast, good new characters, good dialogue and a good portion of nostalgia to the first time I watched a Star Wars movie. I would give it an 8,5/10 personally. Not as good as the original 3 but sometimes it comes close (definitely with the introducing of new characters). Action scenes are great as well.

I know. However, I’m sure he’ll find his way tho.

@cornJester
I felt kinda the same about Kylo, however i liked the fact that Han was killed. I think I’d been mad if he’d just walked away from the bridge confrontation with Kylo.
I really liked kylo as a character… I felt he was what anakin should have been in the prequels. At first you think the dude is badass but then the mask comes off and you see he’s just some kid who wants to put up a front and be strong. His immaturity is shown in his tantrums, also I like the fact that we see kylo struggling with himself because there is a pull in him to go to the light side unlike before we just see the pull to the dark side. A lot of people also didn’t like the light saber duel at the end but it was one of the best. It didn’t look choreographed and flashy…it was gritty and the tension felt real.
Spoilers so I am still going to hide this in spoiler tags. @K-smooth @sentimentalDime

Honestly I thought the lightsaber duel was awesome. I agree it felt right. Kylo was injured and Rey is the definition of inexperienced. I did like the way Han died and it securing Ren’s transition to the dark side. However I still want Ren to go fuck a cactus for killing Han Solo, aka the best character in Star Wars! We all knew Solo wasn’t walking away, saw it coming from miles away.
However I still feel that Kylo Ren was the weakest link between Fin, Rey, Paul, Leia and of course Solo and Chewie. Unless you count shiny Stormtrooper lady who they did absolutely jack shit with. What a wasted character! She had the potential to be badass!
Didn’t learn enough about Ren’s master yet but he was badass looking, loved the hologram making him giant.
@cornJester yeah I liked how they made him more intimidating with that holo much like how ren tries to appear more than he is behind his mask. I really liked that parallel between them and I also feeled disappointed by captain phasma…like she just felt like she was there for marketing…like look we have a badass trooper. I loved the connection between fin and rey, also fin and poe!
Oh his name was Poe? Thought it was Paul. I DID mishear several things in the movie though. Can happen in a theater. xD
I agree with you guys that Phasma was a missed opportunity (at least in this movie). I’m saying at least in this movie because I think there is a chance we’ll see her back. This is Star Wars we’re talking about and if someone doesn’t die on screen, it’s quite possible that they will be back.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she made a return. Why else would they make her so unique if they are not going to use her in the next movies? + the fact that she almost had no screen time makes me believe that it could be possible to see her again in one of the next movies.
@tominatorx yeah I agree, they only put her in a compacter ( which I loved)
And Kylo was my favourite character. I loved the tantrums and hitting himself when he was fighting, as yo me the dark side is frustration and anger and hate, and he embodies those emotions, in my opinion more then Vader.
Though I still don’t understand what the first order are, how they got their army or power, or what goals they have outside of being dicks. Are they a government? They only have one plant! Me no understand.
Still haven’t seen it yet but I am super curious, I wonder who’s the father of Rey.
Cause I honestly think it could go both ways with being Han or Luke, and either way it’ll make the next movies really interesting.
I think they want to jump into the sons( and 1 daughter) of han solo and leia, I have read all books of that series.
