Splash Damage, the biggest con-artists ever?

(Nyrohn) #81

Indeed, Gee. Indeed.

Though if there HAD been an open beta, we’d still have this thread, only instead of OP whinging about how there SHOULD have been one, he’d be whinging about how there was no point.

In short; (NOTE; these describe how the OP is showing us how they would act for the described scenario)

Beta =:mad::mad::mad: + THERE WAS NO POINT IN HAVING A BETA BECAUSE YOU IGNORED THE GLITCHES ANYWAYS! *

NO beta =:mad::mad::mad: + OMG EVERYONE IS DISAGREEING WITH MY UNINFORMED OPINION BECAUSE I DIDN’T STUDY THE GAME UNTIL -AFTER- I PLAYED IT, AND I LOOKED AT EXTREMELY OUTDATED SOURCES, BOO HOO IT’S ALL THEIR FAULTS!

*Or nobody submitted glitch reports.

In addition; Please give a single clap for my failed attempt at trolling a troll.**

**And please give another clap for my successful attempt.

Oh good. I suppose I should thank you for reminding DICE to remove the Semi-auto snipers headshot capacity…

…Then again, damage was buffed a bit after you guys
If you play this on a PC; What exactly is the FIRST thing you see after makin your character?

A message saying you’ll get 1000XP if you watch a video about the roles of the classes and whatnot. Reason they gave; Because Console players might not be used to team-based stuff. (They don’t show KDRs, assists, defuses, revives, downs, etc., because then it would turn into “OMGDEATHMATCHEVERYWHEREITSLIKEIMREALLYPLAYINGCOD”.)

Also; I GUARANTEE you can’t find a game from the past 2 decades (Meaning 2000-now, since 2010 marked a new decade, and if I didn’t tell you you’d bitch because you’re an idiot, Scamps.) that ISN’T glitchy on the first day. Plus, do you really expect poor/sick people living in a SHIPPING YARD to all have the exact same outfit? Same for the Security guys.
I mean, in IRL, do you see bomb-disposal squad guys (Look at “The Bomb”'s jacket on Security) to wear a shirt with the sleeves rolled up, or do you see them with them big-collared shrapnel vest things?

You’re out of your element, kiddo.
Wow, just wow. This one was the worst out of everyone since I posted so I just had to respond to it, but don’t worry, all you idiots are equally unintelligent.

You think there hasn’t been a single game from 2000 to now that has been released without any bugs/glitches? You are the single most moronic person I have come across on this forum yet.

“Plus, do you really expect poor/sick people living in a SHIPPING YARD to all have the exact same outfit?” LOL WHAT? You just proved my point you dunce, customization is limited and shouldn’t be limited…And comparing the IRL security to a real life bomb squad team, mhm, bravo, your knowledge blows me away… No **** they don’t roll around in short ****ing sleeves defusing bombs, I don’t know why you even conjured that ****ty point up

And what the ****, what does the 1000 exp tutorial have to do with anything?

You using a keyboard is seriously out of your element.

Woah man chill calling people idiots is just rude. he is right though there no video game that i can think that has been released with out glitches in the current generation

(Scamps) #85

Lol this isn’t simple little glitches like bugs in the map or people exploiting, it’s the game being released without playability by a significant amount of people. So no, not every game released is released in such a bad manner, with so many bugs/issues.

(ThePuzzldPirate) #86

gears of war 2
Bad company 2
Black ops
Fable 2
Fable 3
Fallout:NV

Don’t understand why brink gets separated from the long list of glitchy games (mine is short, I know.)

(SentencedToBurn) #87

Im going to jump in here and offer two sides: I think OP is frustrated because he was expecting a somewhat different experience.
I’ll come right out and say that while I love the game, I think it was a little too short. I unlocked everything in a day… I wish there was a little more depth to it, you know?

The thing I can think of that SD came even CLOSE to decieving us on (and it’s probably due to my misinformation), is the customization. Honestly, I was expecting a little more, but what they give you to work with is fine, it gives you plenty of combos to come up with (and I’m SURE they’ll be releasing DLC that includes a **** TON more clothing/accessories).

I only wish that you could tweak the colors of all your clothing/accessories more, instead of the preset color-combinations… something like “Jacket/The Jesse/Select Color1/Select Color 2/Color 3, etc…”, so you could mix and match the colors of one particular piece of clothing, you know? I think that would be sweet.

Anyway, all in all it’s only day 2. A game’s development never just ceases after launch day, from then on it’s a constant task of updating, tweaking and patching things until the game is as good as it could possibly be.
I think you would have more fun playing it with a group of friends or a well coordinated team, I had LOADS of fun with my buddies, and even when I only play with one.

my overall so far is 8/10. Well made game, and very adventurous to build such a dynamic and out-of-the-box FPS from the ground up. Could it have been better? Sure it could have. And I’m sure it WILL be better in the future. Is it as UNBELIEVABLE and EPICLY AWESOME as it looked in the trailers, etc? Well, no. Which isn’t to say it’s a bad game, I think people just always expect the WORST when it comes to potential disaster, and they expect THE UTMOST PINNACLE OF PERFECTION when it comes to something they’ve been looking forward to; something they’ve been highly anticipating.
The anticipation is always the best part, that’s what makes it so exciting.

Final point? If you Like BRINK but you wish there was a little more to it, then play the game until you’re bored of it (or until Battlefield 3 =p) wait for the DLC. Play the hell out of that, put it down, and then watch what they do with BRINK 2. Let the excitement build all over again.

The foundation is always a little shaky, but the successor is always a vast improvement. Give them time to fix the problems and they will improve upon it.

I’m DEFINITELY having more fun than with Black Ops, that’s for sure…

Gamespot gave Brink a 6.0 with video review and everything. While All these other games that were released with bugs etc recieved much better ratings. Something is clearly wrong besides bugs which hasnt been fixed yet. Black ops had horrible issues on release, yet it recieved a 9.0. Though atm I am enjoying my time in Brink it does feel short.

Edit: And registration date doesnt mean anything… I just registered so I can voice my opinion.

oh and gamespot is a respected reviewer location. They dedicate 30+ hours of gameplay time before reviewing.

(Linsolv) #89

Gamespot, respected?

I always heard that they were paid per point.

(mikekink) #90

well its something you heard, therefore not fact, but no their reviews are pretty good, especially if you watch the video reviews. Plus I agree with what they say about Brink, but nothing that cant be fixed with a patch. Which in reality shouldnt really happen.

(Linsolv) #91

I didn’t say they lied, I said they gave false numbers.

Let me give you an example, I’ll review the Bulletstorm demo.

"When I saw other people playing the Bulletstorm demo, I immediately thought that I wanted to play it because I could do better. They weren’t creative enough, or fast or accurate enough on the stick. Before I watched people playing Bulletstorm, I didn’t want to play it. Afterwards, I wanted to play because I’m a spiteful little ****. Well, after about 6 hours of downloading, give or take, I had me a copy of that demo.

Game starts up, I can’t jump. There is literally no jump button. Next, there are only about 6 “creative” ways to kill enemies, and killing them with your gun is horrendously slow and aiming is difficult even after playing FPS games most of the time for the past year. The weapons are boring, incidentally, and there’s only about 6 in the demo. I can honestly say I didn’t enjoy it at all.

Final Score: 9/10."

(mikekink) #92

Well another reviewer from the Giant Bomb review site, Jeff Gerstmann which is one of the best reviewers also gave an average rating. And the video review on the Giant Bomb website is 48 minutes, very indepth. But not a good rating.

(ThePilgrim101) #93

Why do you site others to make your case for you? It doesn’t matter what a set of journalists, who incidentily tend to suck at their jobs, think about a game. It matters what the mass consumer thinks.

I’ll this version of the appeal to authority, “but GameSpot said so and I looooovvvveeee gamespot…in my mouth.”

(kozzy) #94

The game is fantastic and I hope its the start of a long series.
This game destroys most onlien shooters of the last 5 years imo.

I pre orderd the game and played it. Im just agreeing with what the review says because its true. Overall this can be a good game. The sites arent making the case for me, Im just agreeing with what they say as I played the game first hand.

(Calelith) #96
Is this the fanboy defense? I have played it, I am level 12. The game is clearly not finished, what unlockables are you talking about? I have all weapon attachments, they’re garbage, especially the sites, they do almost nothing apart from **** with the already unreliable stats…

You unlock new clothes, whoopty-****ing-doo, this has been implemented into games before, also even the clothes is part of a pre-made set…and there is only like 12 different sets or some ****…

There is nothing customizable in this game at all, you’ll see the same character as yours within joining 3 different servers, lets be honest.

“EVOLUTIONARY FPS”

Laughable…
and yet it is still more than most games give you.

(Kryhavok) #97

Dunno if its been said, but the whole “Why would they release a broken game etc etc” argument is pointless. Its a systemic problem with the industry, not just Bethesda and ESPECIALLY not Splash Damage. You might be mad about this particular game being broken, but you need to direct your hate to the video game industry as a whole and not place the blame on the developer of one game.

The release date is set by the publisher. They (management, who never knows wtf they’re doing) pick some arbitrary date that they magically think will be most profitable for the company for the developer to have the game done by. [Edit: Im sure they probe the developer for an estimated deadline, but you can never accurately project something like that].Im impressed Splash Damage was able to get them to delay as long as they did. THAT right there shows that SD was trying to get the game into a playable state before release.

The developer has to turn over final code months before the game hits release date so that the publisher can actually produce the discs, make promos, and distribute the game. SD probably continues testing and bug hunting after delivering, but theres nothing they can do to update the game once its on a billion discs. So they have to patch it. They can only test so much in a limited time, and if they were rushed to get a product out the door, chances are they didn’t get to testing everything on such a large scale. Hence, they release the day 0 patch to do what they can, and address the rest as it occurs.

Sure, its becoming a more and more common problem (day 1 patches, that is), but unless a developer is just crap-tastically lazy (which is usually incredibly evident), the blame should be on the publisher for setting unrealistic deadlines.

Now that is a post (please all watch and learn)

(novo) #99

I feel utterly ripped off from this game, ever since ive been watching developer videos and looking at screen shots and in game play, this game has been looking gorgeous. Although once I get it, it looks horrendous, purely DX9, lighting sucks, texture are ****, and the graphic settings and so minimal, it barely makes a difference. Im playing this on pc at max and it looks bad, i cant imagine how brutal it looks on console.

I just feel as though they were advertising a graphically top of the line game, and that is what i was expecting, and we received substandard graphics, especially in comparison to the beautiful models in the menus.

Im not going to even start ranting about the game-play. I’m not saying i dont like the game, because i think i do… it just feels like a multilayer beta with graphics to match for a full game price, not really worth it.

If there isn’t ALOT of post lauch support, then im going to feel utterly ripped off, i really want graphical fidelity in this game because it relies so heavily on the style.
