The Brink Forum received it’s Q & A back from Splash Damage’s Richard Ham today, with answers to 8 questions (9 actually, but I don’t count the release date answer since they announced it two days or so after I submitted the questions to them )
Splash Damage Q & A: Answers To 8 Questions
What I wonder now is: does the Silent Footsteps ability actually make their footsteps silent in-game, or is it just a radar-affecting perk?
“If you aim your gun at an enemy, your character will automatically shout “enemy spotted!” into his radio”
I hope it’s not every single time your cursor is over an enemy hahah. Team firefights would be a bit annoying, then.
Of course he’s going to say that the pre-order guns will never be available later. Publishers crave pre-orders.
to be honest, he’s not part of Bethesda, he’s the creative director at Splash Damage, a wholly independant company, but true enough, gotta feed the beagles
Would be a bit of a scam if the ‘exclusive’ items became available later. Still I don’t condone this practice and will therefore not pre-order.
some people like collecting hats, when items are cosmetic changes only, I say let them sell lots on line as well
seriously, THESE are the questions they managed to answer after what, 4-5 months??
What a load of BS
The only two new informational answers are:
Will the radar always be on and showing enemies or is it earned or activated?
If you see an enemy on screen, he will appear on your radar. If you aim your gun at an enemy, your character will automatically shout “enemy spotted!” into his radio, and then the enemy will appear on the radar of your teammates.
Also, if you hear the enemy moving or firing, he will appear on your radar, even if neither you nor your teammates know his location. However, if the enemy puts a silencer on his weapon, then his position won’t be given away by gunfire, and if he has the “Silent Running” ability, his footsteps won’t give him away either.
There’s also an Operative ability called “Comms Hack.” If an Operative on your team uses this on an incapacitated enemy, then every enemy will appear on your entire team’s radar for the next few seconds.
Once an enemy appears on your radar, he’ll stay on there for a few seconds, but will then disappear if you lose track of him. The only thing that will keep him on your radar consistently is if you continue to keep him on screen, or he continues to make noise. Will you be able to throw back a grenade?
In an earlier version we allowed it, but we’ve since made our grenades less powerful because we didn’t want the game to be too “grenade spammy,” so we took this feature out to balance them.
And they grenade thingy is pretty useless anyway since none of the previous SD titles had the ability to throw grenades back anyway :s.
What happend to the indept questions about merging singleplayer with coop on the PC??
How do you go from playing single player on your own PC to friends instantly joining when there are supposed to be dedicated servers?!
They sent in 33 questions. Ham answered the 9 quickest and easiest and sent them back.
And what can we take from this? Never ask easy and irrelevant questions.
Definitely. But these aren’t cosmetic only, so I boycott it.
I’ve seen no indication the guns will have different stats to the existing counterparts

Wha-wha-wha-what!? Are you sure? That’s so gheeeyyy then! I’m very disappointed…
Unless it’s one of those pre-orders where there’s universal codes that everyone can just enter. I hope SD was smart enough to go for that

In fairness, the questions were e-mailed on the 25th of January. So that’s pretty quick. But yeah, could have been better.
Still, they have my gratitude.
Will the Pre-order guns (Psycho and Spec-Ops) be available to everyone eventually, or are they pre-order only?
Right now, there are no plans to release them to the wider player base after the game ships, so if you want to be sure to get them, pre-order now!
Tapir is disappointed
I still fail to see how keeping secret information about niche aspects of the game benefits Bethesda. I highly doubt the mainstream blogs are going to touch on or even cover the game to such a level of detail so why not allow the developer to handle the questions on here or the Beth forums.
