Splash Damage please stop making me use certain merc for credits

(L3thalGho5t) #1

Everyone has tried out all the merc’s, why do you force us to use certain ones for credits? The only good way to earn credits is to do the missions. We are limited to 3 already and you force me to carry 1 so i only get 2. I like to have a good mix of merc’s because i use different ones based on the map and how the game is going.

I dont even use the merc the mission requires. they just sit in one of my slots till the mission is over.

Because the missions main job is, to nudge you into doing things you normaly wouldn’t.

Sure you don’t need to play those mercs (which is nice), but if you bring different mercs for different situations and the mission says bring proxy, than the chance that you take proxy as your engineer for the next couple of matches is high. And you might play her. Especially now that you gotta earn XP that fits the Merc aswell.

Personaly I use those missions as an excuse to play those mercs. Great way to learn a few things about mercs you don’t play regulary (which also increases your counterplay of said mercs) and to be honest also a nice change of pace after playing the same merc over and over. Getting credits for doing so, is the icing on the cake.

I honestly wish they would switch over to a pool of missions that let you select what you want to do and who you want to do it with every 3 hours and then assign the mission as a 500, 750 or 1000 randomly to prevent people from feeling as they they always need to do that 1000 point missions (i’m fine with this kind of RNG). Or even pick a 500, 750 and 1000 point mission.

It would allow everyone to do missions exactly as we have now except people would get to do things they want to do. I know the idea behind the current missions is to try and get people to play mercs they wouldn’t and to do things they might not normally do. Which is a fine theory and works on paper (and with some people) but when you involve humans and their reactions to being forced into anything you end up with different results.

@Gl.Am I understand what your saying and that can be true but i don’t want to play as them. Plus I already have several merc that i use often. i don’t stick with one.

@Amerika that sounds like a wonderful idea! I back that 100%

I do pretty much all the missions with Arty with the needed mercs in my squad. With Arty I find them all really easy to do, he’s good at getting any type of xp.

(kittz0r) #6

who is forcing you to play the Missions?

(MTLMortis) #7

Last night was the first time I got a triple-base homer. All three missions, a 500, 750 and 1000 credit done in 1 round of stopwatch.

Felt so good seeing that 2250 mission credits roll up at the end.

…and on stopwatch…that I absolutely despise.

There should be a medal or something for getting that done. Or at least some buffalo chicken wings. I’d accept that instead.

(Coconut) #8

'least I have chicken.

(Jostabeere) #9

Who the hell is forcing you to do anything? I mean, seriously. Do you even think about what you’re typing?

(InvaderGir) #10

I cannot agree more, man. It really is a bummer to get missions relating to mercs I don’t use because I got them through the starter pack.

What? You mean you don’t have a guy with a gun pointed at your head forcing you to do every mission you’re given? Is it just me?

(MTLMortis) #11

No, but the point of any game is to have fun. Having to cancel missions and watch a countdown clock is inherently not fun.

Blizzard’s Hearthstone had a way of combating this by allowing 1 free cancel and automatic new quest every 24hrs. Not perfect, but it mitigates the frustration. Dirty Bomb might want to implement a similar feature.

I meant to say " you mean you don’t have a guy pointing a gun at your head" so it seemed like I was talking about myself but I fucked that up alright. In any case I agree with you and that idea doesn’t sound so bad.

(Corvo) #13

Yeah, the missions could be better. Of course, no-one is ‘forcing’ us to do them, but we want to earn credits so skipping does not feel good. For those people who’s time can be limited, getting a support mission with aura for example, a certain amount of game/support xp, and whatever basically means you will spend the next few games playing characters you don’t want to, playing the game in a way you may not want to either. And that could be most of your free time spent.

It certainly feels constrictive, sort of 'ok, Ive finally got these games out of the way with characters I didn’t really want to play, in a playstyle that was dictated to me. Now I can actually play with the characters I want to, in the way I prefer. Im sure it could be handled better.

(L3thalGho5t) #14

@laudatoryLunch your right i am not literally forced but if I want to earn credits i have to do the missions. I said that in my original post. “The only good way to earn credits is to do the missions.” You must not be able to read.

(CCP115) #15

There’s nothing wrong with missions in their current state, except that some of them should be removed (competitive matches).

Merc ones should be kept, because it nudges you to play differently. Don’t wanna play Proxy? AT ALL? Well, that’s like 750 credits gone. If you really cared about credits, you’d just play Proxy.

(Jostabeere) #16

No. You. Are. Wrong. You don’t have to do missions to earn credits. Play the game without looking every 10 minutes on your credit count, play stopwatch and you will end up with more than by doing missions with your “Smeagol-“My prescious missions!”” playstyle.

(MarsRover) #17

That’s 100% impossible. The worst case scenario for missions is something like doing 3x500 missions in an hour. Notice I said “worst case”, because you can do them much faster. Even if you magically skipped lobby time, you get 12x60=720 credits for playing.

And what has Stopwatch do to with earning credits?

(Fleshpound) #18

Mercs, obviously force you to do it.

More perm mercs owned-Less credits you need for full experience :innocent:

Do 3 mission in an hour.
Constantly.

(MarsRover) #20

I don’t understand.
