Splash Damage is now an ironic representation of their injured reputation.

so am I
The core of Brink is brilliant, but as long as you get kicked out, it kills the feeling… the holding F and it does what it wants instead of what you want, it´s the end of the round when you can´t chat with the enemy or own team, the several bugs, the lack of support for clans, the way you have to set up your fireteam every stopwatch, when game is running three minutes till you got all invited to the fireteam…

It´s obviously made for consoles, instead of the quality of an ET:QW-release, an PC-based game

just as mine…

wonderful!

(ataliba) #104

i’m sorry i don’t mean to be mean…

(raib) #105

I can’t agree with that. This place has a pretty bad fanboy infestation. OP should not have to go out of his way with disclaimers and generally defending himself.

I, too, was actually pretty hyped about this game and followed it for more than a year prior to release. I told about it to friends and got a few to purchase it. Some of those who didn’t buy it still sometimes ask me if it’s good yet. I can’t honestly answer that it would be.

(dazman76) #106

And you need to stop triple-bumping threads, especially when one of the posts is just a random disconnected exclamation with no quote. The thread isn’t going to disappear from the front page just because you’re not posting in it - and yes, you are indeed that transparent.

As much as you’d obviously love this thread to be drawing blood at SD HQ, it isn’t going to happen. SD are getting enough negative press at the moment without your petty bump tactics. And yes, I realise I just bumped the thread - I’m a genius like that. Maybe it’ll save the next pointless reply you were gearing up to?

(Seiniyta) #107
Lets be honest, SD has been anything but candid and forthcoming with regards to the PC version of Brink throughout its entire development.

Comparing Brinks development to ETQW’s, it’s like 2 entirely different companies… aliens?
Or maybe your sense of reality is seriously screwed up? The Quake Wars forum were filled with “why no responses” “SD’s not listening” and all that jazz. What I see now is typical SD. Extremely careful with their words as they don’t have the final word (bethesda does).

Just remember, Splash Damage had funded Patch 1.5 for Quake Wars with their own pocket money and beta tested it through the community because the contract with activision had expired for that game. They love their products, they’ve put their heart and soul into it for the last years.

I’m sometimes so facepalming when I read how much better they supposedly handled QW whilst the QW forums were riddled with whine topics every ****ing day. (moar maps, mod support sucks, why no 64 players?..)

SD listens, but usually isn’t that talkative, SD is an introvert company

(shibbyuk) #108

Does “splash” mean reputation? If not I don’t quite get the irony but I do agree with most of your points, barring the fact I’m still eager to play lots more Brink.

Anyway, there must be plenty of developers who have made mistakes, missed bugs, yet gone on to great things; SD are still growing and I think will continue to establish themselves and their reputation. I do agree that Brink itself has missed its potential to some extent though.

Before release, a lot of people were excited about Bethesda releasing a new game, their reputation from Fallout preceded them. If you ask me, their reputation may have suffered a little but I think its impossible to say this at such an early stage. How long as Brink been out now?

A little manners and a carefully thought out opinion goes a long way (even if it was a tad long-winded  ), evident by the good response the the OP’s thread. People are far more receptive and willing to respond.

Yeah and I thought that the EA Battlefield forums were bad. At least they have a reason to defend their game… Battlefield has established itself as a pretty damn successful series, which is a lot more than I can say for this game. We’ll be lucky to get a Brink 2!

Luckily I was able to dissuade friends from getting it and when I was at gamestop the other day
I was able to dissuade a few people who were looking to buy the game. It’s not only me… the gamestop employee at the gamestop I go to is telling people how horrible the game is and to save their money! Good.

Also… Jess Alon, Nail, Dark Angel, etc… man you guys need to ****ing chill! It’s so pathetic how you defend this game. People hate it and they’ll bash the hell outta SD… who gives a **** (except you) ?!

(ataliba) #110

just because you’re not good at a game doesn’t means it sucks… I get that you die several times playing bc2 but in no way brink is a better game… it could be… but it isn’t… by now bc2 is the best fps ou there without a doubt, because it rewards skill and tactical thinking… as in brink you jump arround shooting popcorns…

(BRINK disappoints) #111

BC2 is also fun to play for hours at a time. I play one or two matches in Brink before I get bored. In the beginning, I was able to play a lot. But now it’s just getting really boring. I thought that jumping of walls and sliding around while shooting people would be fun. But now it’s just getting really old.

There are others who have brought up just as valid points. Responses here are better than usually in these kinds of threads, yes, but it should not be all up to OP to write it all nicely. People should be able to see past more blunt wording, too. Also you still see some of the brink defence force taking up arms here. Jumping on anything you can possibly perceive as criticism and preventing truthful, constructive feedback is going to do more harm than good to this game.

(kristus) #114

What do you need “clan support” for really? Put a tag in your name and you’re done.
And I dunno how in tune you’re with competetive gaming. But generally “stats” are meaningless to anyone interested in competetive gaming.

Well the gamestop in the mall next to my house has workers that play and like the game for what it is despite the flaws and recommend it to those into the genre, the gamestop outside the mall in shopping strip which is in no way associtiated other then name feel very much the same way although i find they tend to have a different taste in games so they dont prefer it as much themselves but still praise it for what it does right and brings to the table.

Of my friends who have bought it or played it at my house and didnt expect it to be COD with parkour almost 100% love it and dont see why so many have such deep hate for this game. I like many others who enjoy the game totally see and understand the flaws and hope for them to be fixed but honestly for what it is this game is AMAZING!

How many other games come out flawless? pretty much none, everygame i own or have owned for the most part has had plenty of issues at launch and no one seemed to complain nearly as much as many have with Brink. Things will get fixed or improved, hell many games people are in love with including myself still have bugs and flaws but they are still AMAZING games like Warhawk, RDR, BFBC2, FO:NV, MW1/MW2 etc…

Main flaw i find in this game is it attracted players who had no idea what they were getting into, they all failed to think outside the box and stick to playing lame as balls which is why they dont get the excitement many have for this game. Almost every complaint is a personal preferance and not a real complaint. Like many seem to want it to have this or that from another game cause thats what they like rather then using whats already there and enjoying it.

Pretty much without getting into specifics and every complaint it just seems like those who didnt like the game either have zero patience with new games or, they are people that rather then using their brain while utilizing and exploring the depth offered to them would prefer to just bitch and moan all day about what THEY SPECIFICALLY wanted this game to be and refuse to open up to new thoughts or ideas put into games…

One thing i truely love about this game is with all the weapons, looks, body types, classes, abilities and maps everything for the most part is totally balanced and allows you to play any style you want without feeling like you or others have an unfair advantage or dissadvantage. Everything you do or your team does comes down to the people playing and how they decide to use whats at their finger tips.

If you want to be lame and play basic without using all the cool stuff good for you and you will have just as good a chance as most others but maybe not as much fun, but if you want to try new things and explore all that is capable prepare to have an awesome/amazing ass time doing things in this game that you could only wish to have done in past fav games. Everyone just needs to forget about what games they used to play and just enjoy Brink for what it is and all the new and innovative things it has to offer. Play it how you want but dont blame Brink cause you play LAME, embrace it and go places a tactical team based fps has never gone before!!!

BFBC2 a great game ???
Horrid piece of crap imo, getting stuck on twigs, falling into invisible holes, just bad sound

BAD SOUND??? do you even have ears???
c’mon man… as much as you love Brink you can’t say that about BFBC2. I mean… even if they can patch the hell out of Brink and make it enjoyable… it’ll never come to the feet of bad company 2.
bfbc2 has a large competitive community, plenty of youtube commentators, and overall a large and solid community, and you can achieve level 50…
