Special loadout skins only for those, who pay for them?

(BerylRdm) #1

I know that cobalts ought to be rare and devs don’t want us to pay for them, that’s why we can only buy randomness, but have they ever considered creating special skins not obtainable from cases, but only available for those who pay for them? Yes, yes, I know - obsidian. But I mean something you can get at any time, not only in alpha or events.

I think this would make paying devs more reasonable for some of us, while cobalt cards would still be rare as they are now.

So, have they ever considered it publicly? And if answer is yes, what are their thoughts on this?

(Nail) #2

really stupid idea, skins mean nothing

if it can be bought anytime its worthless to me

(BerylRdm) #4

Yes, they mean nothing (they won’t make you better or something). But, I thought that’s already obvious people want better skins, even trinkets, etc. and they will pay for them.

(doxjq) #5

What? They mean nothing but at the end of the day they sell, and most people like them. It’s win/win for everyone involved.

(Nail) #6

people would pay more to pick augments

(doxjq) #7

Which is exactly why they shouldn’t. Crafting cards is entirely different to giving someone some bling. I can’t even tell if you’re trolling right now or not lmao.

While skins are “extra” things for sure that should never go ahead of gameplay or have more focus on than them, how today’s online environment and gaming works they have their quite major place in it, we (who don’t care for them) like it or not.

However how I see it, is SD should rework how skins are implemented into the game before releasing more of them. Separating skins and functionality should still be possible when done right.

(BlackboltLW) #9

Honestly they should release more variety of skins

(BerylRdm) #10

Lemme get this straight: I would pay for this game. Maybe without f2p model community wouldn’t be as toxic as it is now. But, game is f2p and I spent more than 1000 hours playing it right now. For the last year Dirty Bomb was basically the only game I played, thanks to DB I started playing games again. And I want to give Splash Damage some money for all the joy DB gave me. BUT I won’t spend my money on a fucking RNG. Hell, I’d even buy those skins, even though I don’t care about skins much. Skins make more sense to me than chicken (or any other) trinket. I think I can’t expect anything else, because I don’t want this game to be pay to win - cosmetics is basically the only option.

I also don’t understand why they won’t make special skins as rewards for ranked. Imo community members had so many good ideas to make this game more alive and rewarding for most people, but SD just won’t listen.

(TheFluffyOne) #11

If they do make special skins that you could buy, the problem would then arise by the fact that you could buy your own desired loadout with the guns and augments you are most proficient with. That might not seem like a too much of a big deal, but I believe that some people might make it so.

Like Bontsa said, before releasing many more skins, they should rework how skins are implemented. Maybe they should separate loadouts and skins, and make it so that skins could be added over loadouts.

I do as well hope that in the far future they would add new models for the mercs, or maybe just new heads (like in Borderlands 2), because I would love to have my proxy with pigtails (like in the concept art of her).

(Jostabeere) #12

I see your point. Skins are meaningless. Yet people like them in the same way as collecting meaningless cards, stamps, insects, cars, and everything else. technically everything is meaningless. That’s a weak argument.
But. Skins make people pay money for them. And people will pay a lot of money to Nexon ans SD if the game would have skins.
Have you seen how much money Valve is making with meaningless skins?

Here’s another example of a great community idea devs don’t want to listen.

Exactly. People want skins, they will pay for them.

You can already buy bronze

(AlphaUT) #14

Add to @Beryl comment, not gonna cost much to craft a bronze loadout, I currently could craft around 50 or even more bronze loadout.

(B_Montiel) #15

If you’ve ever witnessed how many skins League of legends sold for significant money amounts, you would not say that. For people not bothering, yes, it does not change anything. For potential buyers and more importantly developers, it does, if it’s done the right way.

And that’s the easiest F2P model to implement by the way. But sadly, using way too obvious tricks is not how SD works.

Selling augments is a proper pay to win fat finger.

(Nail) #16

I don’t care how many idiots spent thousands on worthless crap, doesn’t make it right or smart . You can already buy augments, they’re called bronze cards

(n-x) #17

The problem is that spending money on worthless crap is the only way to give SD money.

(hawkeyeguy99) #18

I never said they’re valuable, but I enjoy skins a lot. They don’t “mean nothing” to a lot of people including myself. All you have to do is look at CS:GO skin’s economy to tell that people really value skins. Sure, you can’t trade/sell DB skins but that doesn’t mean people don’t value them.
Go ahead and name call/shame. You’re entitled to your opinion but your opinions don’t represent the community as a whole.

(TheFluffyOne) #19

Oh well, I guess I was wrong.

(Nail) #20

for skins to be worthwhile to me they’d have to follow the Brink Character Customization, at least then you can be unique
