Spawn Waves

(INF3RN0) #1

Sad that it took me until today to finally find out that there are no spawn waves… instead there’s a fixed time to respawn from when you die. Let the vote begin!

Currently:
-Attackers will always spawn in waves, although if you’ve been incapped and ‘miss’ a wave you have the option to respawn instantly
-Defenders always have a fixed respawn time to wait which starts counting down when you are incapped

Ride 'em waves, son.

(Rex) #3

That was one of the things I noticed first. Now, I’m really interested who will vote for “keep it”.
The time factor is comletely missing in general due to the missing respawn timer and a common respawn time.

No wonder things just felt messy and chaotic all this time on defence, players all spawning randomly at different times, it’s no wonder there’s no cohesion or organisation. Voted for waves!

I have no proof for this but I’ve thought for the longest time that there is some sort of wavyness at least on offense. Sometimes you wait for respawn, sometimes you don’t, and if you wait it changes a lot. I think it’s somehow connected to team mates deaths, so that if you die and a team mate had died 5 secs earlier, you respawn when he respawns. Sometimes there are long stretches, especially in 8v8 when you just keep respawning immediately when you die. So I have no idea what the system is but there seems to be something.
And might I add, I have very much experience when it comes to respawning, taking into consideration the lemming I am
Voted for regular spawn waves anyways.

just selfkill at random times I keep getting a 12± sec wait time

(iwound) #7

Spawn together, Fight together, Die together. my new moto. :stroggflag:

(Rex) #8

Sounds like a SD game, or a lemming rush on Salvage.

(Mustang) #9

It feels even worse right now because it’s gone from pretty much instant spawn to always having to wait 15 seconds.

Gief teh wavez plox.

(Humate) #10

Spawn waves + 1st person spec on gib

(tokamak) #11

I certainly hope SD is doing more than just individual timers. You may not need waves on defense but on offence it certainly matters.

(DarkangelUK) #12

Throw in a spawn timer as well

(Humate) #13

ok just for you.

(INF3RN0) #14

Apparently defense has had a fixed timer the whole time, while offense spawns in waves. I still would like a defensive wave anyway.

(tokamak) #15

There’s a lot of merit to not giving the defense waves but individual timers. I was about to write an essay on this but I’m very sleepy now. Goodnight.

I’m a fan of waves. It’s a good mechanic that gives teams a chance to push forward as a group.

(Kendle) #17

Er, no brainer IMO, it’s got to be waves. It’s like asking should DB have objectives? The 2 go hand in hand, surely?

(Rushster) #18

The problem with spawn waves it can lose a team a match. If are a quite a few players taken out the game at once and you get caught in a 20+ second spawn wave it can completely lose you a game when in fact you were likely win. This happens a lot in ETQW.

(Mustang) #19

Then make it a 5-10 second wave time.

(Kendle) #20

It’s the job of the attacking team to put the defenders in spawn so they can complete the objective. If they succeed in that they deserve to win.

Certainly, for competition, wave is the only way to go, and long spawn times for defenders is one of the key mechanics to ensuring Stopwatch mode actually works!

edit: It may be that there needs to be different rules for Stopwatch and Objective. In Stopwatch the result isn’t based on who wins, it’s based on who wins the fastest. In Objective I can see a case for shorter spawn times, but not sure anything but wave makes sense in an objective based game.
