Spawn System?

(DarkSlayer54) #1

I’ve looked around the site and I’ve tried searching the forum, but I couldn’t find any info on it.

Does anyone know how the spawn system will work?

To be honest, I’m hoping it’ll be simply two spawn zones with spawn protection; Because of the “Call Of Duty” games, I’m all against random spawning. Spawning all over the map is just terrible, and it can easily be exploited. Even by having one “stacked team” the whole spawn system breaks, and there goes any chance for the loosing team to win.
Having a simple two spawn zone system with protection, any player has a chance to break out. If the spawn system gives enough cushion then a player could easily break any spawn locks by throwing grenades as a distraction and picking them off from the side.
(I felt I needed to give my opinion on spawn systems)

I like spawn grenades like they had in KZ2. They eliminated them from KZ3 and that game is just awful right now.

Won’t be random spawns because it is a attack/defend type game. Although there may be more than 2 spawn zones.

You can’t have random spawning in an obj based game… you can but it would be stupid and broken. Spawning will be in waves, attackers usually have a shorter time between waves, and everything else you said is right with the addition of control points. Essentially both teams will have their own spawn points that will likely change according to map progression.

Thanks for the info. I still have a few doubts about how good the spawning might be… but, as long as it’s not random then I’m happy.
I’ve heard some bad reviews about Brink… but, honestly it seems like the perfect game on paper. From what you’ve described about the spawn system it seems like it’ll please everyone. I’d still like to know more, such as what protection would be placed, if any… but, I guess the details can wait until release.

Theres area protection on the main spawns e.g. stationary turrets to give a chance to a full held attacking teams to escape and SMART their way around.

(LyndonL) #7

Those turrets are indestructible and automatic also so spawncamping hopefully is a thing of the past…

(I’m looking at you BC2 - had a game last night on Atacama desert where the ranks were wildly imbalanced, and had 2 tanks and a helo flying over our spawn so we literally couldn’t leave… SPAWN-DIE-SPAWN-DIE… Took me 5 lives to get out of the base along the coast to run and capture A)

Out of curiosity do you have links to the bad reviews? Or if they are anecdotal from other people can you relate what was said? I’ve seen very little if anything negative from people who have had hands on the game.

(DarkSlayer54) #9

I’ve heard about the bad reviews through word of mouth. Apparently people that have played it at E3 and they had a few issues with it. Not sure how true it is, but I’d rather believe it and have a nice surprise at release than shove it off to the side and be disappointed.

Anyway, I did a quick search myself and this is all I’ve found.

His conclusion says:
“didn’t play as solid as I would have hoped; something about the gunplay feels a little off”

So, In other words… for now I guess the “bad reviews” can be seen a rumors.

I hope we can camp in Brink. Bah… couldn’t do that with a straight face.

Lot’s of detailed info on how the typical SD spawn system works in past games in the articles linked in my sig. You can extrapolate from there how it will most likley work in Brink. That’s not so say things can’t be different and there’s not any questions (like can you choose your spawn loaction or do you always spawn at the most forward point).

But the articles should give you an idea of why the spawn wave system tends to work so well in attack/defend objective style gameplay.

I read it and you concerns seem needless. This was E3 2010 which was last July or something so they had plenty of time to sort stuff. And wat I’ve seen from pax 2011 the shooting seems fine. It wAs a pretty positive review.

Maybe someone who played at pax east 2011 can say their thoughts? Maybe that should be a thread?

I posted some of my PAX impressions around here and then in a huge post on another site and Badman linked to them in the PAX rundown if you are looking for a longwinded rundown. There are also a ton of other hands on previews that should help listed here you ignore the bits of a couple articles that were “bad reviews” for Brink. My two rounds with the game the only “bad” thing I ran across was the leaderboard screen at the end of a level, because it meant the demo was done.

Yeah, sorry about that. One game I was in on Saturday, we had both helis circling their base. I ran into the opposing base, hopped into their tank and blasted the guys for a good five-ten minutes (without ever moving the tank) before the engineers realized it, and blasted it with rockets immediately as they spawned. My friend was in the other tank after a minute or two… It was not a pretty game.

Ahaha if you guyz play I might reinstall teh stuff one day for a quick blast…

(LyndonL) #16

That’s not fun for anyone. Boring as the dominators since there’s no challenge, and boring/aggrivating as the dominated.

(Herandar) #17

On 360. Sorry.

Agreed. But I’ve noticed that on random pub games, you can go from dominator to dominated in one match. It is rare for it to be exremely one-sided for long.

I’m thinking the ping to France would suck ze hairy balls mate :frowning:

I tried L4D with Madoule and it failed hard hehe.

Oh yeah , forgot you were low-end persons (aka consolers)* I used to have an aussie boi in my SoF2 clan and it was playable, with etqw its quite impossible to play on aussie servers to me tho…

*j/k before the infrastick

Most people play it what may be the CoD mentality, they run along a straight line and concentrate at a particular point. I look at where most of my team-mates are and go on the opposite path, works every time.
