SoundpackComposer v1.0

(Justice) #1

Hello fellows,

I have finished the first release of SoundpackComposer, a application which can be used to generate soundpacks for Enemy Territory. Do note, with a lack of creativity a soundpack might decrease your server’s visitors.

I ask you do use this program in a normal way, as I did not spend very much time in managing errors yet. I did my best tracking every possible bug, but I’m pretty sure there might still be a few around.
In order for the application to extract a pk3 archive, you need to place the SharpZipLib DLL file in the same folder as the EXE.

For questions, suggestions or bugs you can either add me on Xfire (antonh1) or go to my little website (http://whilefalse.ucoz.com)

Here’s the link: http://whilefalse.ucoz.com/dl/spc/SoundpackComposer_v1.0.zip

I would be very pleased if some of you would test it for me, as it’s the first application I’ve ever released and I have no idea whether I’ve built it the right way.
Do note, with a soundpack you might decrease your server’s visitors.
Fixed that for you.

People mostly hated to download sound packs, because nearly all of them overrule the default sounds.

Still, nice of you to make a tool for it.

(Justice) #3

Well, if you have the creativity and knowledge to put in the right sounds, a soundpack can be fun.
But it’s also a matter of taste

If it does decrease popularity, you can’t hold me responsible.

(shagileo) #4

Nah 't is cool what you made
I don’t have the chance to try it, but I’m sure many admins will use it

(acQu) #5

:open_mouth: So kewl

(nUllSkillZ) #6

Nice tool.
Good work.

(Indloon) #7

Good that you finished that Justice.
But next time make your project in C++:)

Dunno **** about C++ :stuck_out_tongue:
And it works fine in C#, so why would I?

C# is for babies:wink:
Well C# has only one good point to use it,desing.

(Justice) #10

Exactly. So it’s perfect for a simple, friendly-interfaced tool like this one
C# is for babies:wink:
Well C# has only one good point to use it,desing.:)
Actually, C# or other garbage-collected languages are for programmers who have better things to do with their time than debugging seg faults and memory leaks.

C++ is only needed when you want it to be fast or small, at the expense of some programming pains.

I hate it how people get those mixed up.

A great tool.
I remember the last time a created a soundpack.
Setting up all the needed scriptfiles (with all the levels), trail and fail… again and again (at this point I delegated the responsibility to my co-admin  )
Now, I tested the tool and I have to say: Wow, absolutly great!
She (my co-admin) is also happy about this great piece of software… never again going crazy because not working menues.

Thank you Just!ce

Great tool
works as a charm

one request if you make a v2: a possibillity to change the original chat with it too
if this is possible?

(Justice) #14

Well, I personally hate it when the originals are swapped for additional sounds, so I don’t think I will add such feature. Sorry for the inconvenience :S

(twt_thunder) #15

I get your point when it comes to vanilla ET but when it’s modded sometimes it would make a huge different…

ex. terminators
ex. ETnam

but if you wont that’s ok it was just a wish from an non programmer that never made it with soundpacks

but as i said the tool is great!!!

(Justice) #16

That’s true. But modders usually know how to create their own soundpacks. This application is for serveradmins who haven’t got a clue where to start scripting. Sure, it could ease experienced scripters’ investment in their projects, but if they really want to go hardcore adding other features, they could easily add their additions to the scripts.

And thanks, I might think about adding such feature, but do not expect it :stuck_out_tongue:

(iddqd) #17

Some time ago I did my own SoundPack and it was not easy, when you first time have contact with such language.

So, your project is great and will be helpful for many novice administrators

(JereManU) #18

Great work. I remember that making my first soundpack took me about six hours, doing it with just by hand.

(Smurfer) #19

I will be happy to make a soundpack for you.

(Dit) #20

All you need is

[AwB] SoundPack Creator

you can:

 • save/load Soundpack Project
 • check the SoundFiles for compatibility (hz, rates, channels…)
 • Create SoundPack and test it on the fly, like in the Game, just use KeyBoard Keys.
 • export as pk3- File

Runs on Windows, Mac and Linux (not testet on all Versions of OSs)

you need: Java.
