Sound

This has been beaten to death already, but I have to add my two cents to
the foray.

The primary weapon sounds are severely lacking in quality. “Tin Can” like sounds comes to mind. Most of the weapon’s sound like pop guns that my 10 year old used to play with. Most of them sound distant or as if you were listening to someone firing 10 meters away. The weapon/explosion sounds do not draw you into the game, they detach you from it.

While many of the foley effects are nice, I find it rather unprofessional for a commercial release to have sound effects from sample cd’s/sample house’s that are unchanged/unedited except for the simplest of effects. A good portion of the sounds were easily recognizable from the sound compilations I have. There seems to be no effort to customize the sounds other than to tweak them a bit and then dump them in.

Why the jump to 16bit/44khz/mono? It’s not like the sounds we’ve heard in the public beta are utilizing the extra headroom. Most of the retail rtcw effects, sound much better at their default 16bit/22khz/mono.

All in all, a great game … but do something with the sounds.

Tak

I wonder if SD is taking these suggestions to mind. Or if they are taking a “Screw you” attitude toward it. I haven’t seen a single comment in this forum that I have diagreed with. Especailly the voice chats… NEED SOME DAMN ENTHUSIASIM!

I agree.

The voice chat sounds (V key) are completely tedious and ambiguous as well, and discourage its use.

See the ‘DANKE’ one. It’s more suitable for a team killer!!!

In addition, that voice actor is the right man in the wrong movie…

The excellent RTCW original voices should have been kept, because they are one of the most attractive features of RTCW. No other game has those excellent nazi sarcastic voices…

I love the new thompson sounds.

I mean, if you want to find some old vintage MP40’s and Thompson and record a sound that’ll be authentic and real, go ahead.
