Something odd I've noticed...

(DoHo) #1

Hey guys.

Something I’ve noticed recently, particularly the VG24/7 video, is enemy players somewhat ignoring each other. For example, in several parts the player can be seen quite close to enemies without much reaction; neither of them appear to head for cover or to move in a way that would suggest they were (or that they were in some way preparing for conflict). In a few parts the player reloads and moves around while an enemy is on-screen, but he doesn’t look at the enemy or attempt to shoot him, he seems to just reload and go about his business as if the area was clear…

I’m just wondering if anyone has any information on this? It seems like very odd behaviour for a competitive shooter. Perhaps there is more going on than meets the eye such as the player (camera) not being targeted on purpose or something like that, but I’m sure I’ve seen this in some other videos too. As I said I only recently noticed this and it’s baffling me!

competitive shooter?

(DoHo) #3

I’m not sure what you mean by that.

(Kinjal) #4

I mean i didnt seen any competitive videos for this game so far, only time will tell if its competitive or not.

(DouglasDanger) #5

What do you mean when you say Brink is a competitive shooter?

(Seyu) #6

Why should the enemy players to always be fighting? You want that mainstream crap, go back to CoD.

(DoHo) #7

Omg really? Aside from the fact that that has nothing to do with the actual topic question, Brink has been touted as a competitive shooter, has it not? I’m sure a huge part of the philosophy behind development was making otherwise unaccessable competitive gameplay (i.e. through heavy team work by clans) accessable to the general masses. Many time they’ve mentioned “training” people who wouldn’t normally play games online and getting them into the team mind set.
Why should the enemy players to always be fighting? What i’m asking is why two enemies standing in front of each other seemingly ignore each other. I’m pretty sure “shooting the enemy” isn’t a casual or Call of Duty game mechanic. =/ If you’re not holding a gun to shoot people why are you holding it? It’s not like either player was busy completing an objective or anything. They just stood around for a few seconds seemingly oblivious/unphased by an enemy on their screen… I found this odd.

What i’m asking is why two enemies standing in front of each other seemingly ignore each other.

Perhaps because they are AI bots set on easy, and not real people?

(Crytiqal) #12

I was under the assumption he meanth that bots were ignoring their enemies and move as if the area was clear.

(DoHo) #13

Well that would be the answer I’m looking for, not “Go back to CoD.” (Not aimed at you) Though I don’t need you needed that slightly sarcastic tone.

Easy bots was my first thought, but I wasn’t sure.
I was under the assumption he meanth that bots were ignoring their enemies and move as if the area was clear.
I didn’t know they were bots! I know many of the showings they’ve had players versing bots, but I didn’t know the background of the VG24/7 “event” (as he said in that particular video). And since I’ve seen it before I wasn’t sure. Either way the player was ignoring the bots too,so it’s entiely possible he didn’t feel they were a threat, which makes sense.

Typed words have tone now - news to me.

(DoHo) #15

Lol. You can’t be serious.

(Seyu) #16

Are you that much of a newbie? Go take a look at some videos of competitive matches on youtube, you’ll see that the players almost never shoot at each other. Matches between teams where everyone is a competent player invariably lead to a Mexican stand-off. No one wants to shoot and cause a chain reaction. Players shoot at each other only in the direst of circumstances.
I think you should have stayed at the Bethsoft forums if you don’t even know the basics of competitive play.

(DouglasDanger) #17

geez seyu

I imagine it was bots on the easy setting.

(TJskwared) #18

i cant see why everyone is flaming this question? deactivate keyboard warrior mode for just a sec guys lol. i think its all down to the fact that the outcome of the game in things like CoD and BFBC2 is down to the number of kills, so obviously the objective is to kill, here there isnt as much emphasis on the killing but more on actual objectives.

(Bridger) #19

I’m going to go ahead and say…user error. The videos may be recorded while people are just getting a feel for the game, and they may not yet know what the teams look like. Might be easier to answer your question though, if you had a link to a video with a timestamp example?

(Linsolv) #20

I’d disagree that competitive players “never shoot each other.” Been watching QuakeLiveTV a ton lately, and all they seem to DO is shoot each other. Is Quake Live only for casuals?
