something interesting

(Chipo) #1

…bla bla bla … The game will ship with about 12 maps, according to Willits. What’s cool is that the game will feature a campaign mode, with campaigns that consist of three or four maps that are linked together.Teams will battle on each map, and experience carries over to the next map, so by the end map, and the more experience that you gain, the more health you’ll have, as well as the more weapon options at your disposal.Meanwhile, new players just joining the campaign will be given “lone wolf” missions that have those players pursuing secondary objectives, since they would otherwise get torn apart by the higher-level players. The campaign is over after the last map, and the winner is determined by which side has the most wins. After that, everyone resets for the next campaign. … bla bla …

Care to elaborate on what’s interesting here? I read that article too.

Think Chipo just got a little excited

(Floris) #4

It’s a pretty cool way to make balance

(Lanz) #5

It’s also a pretty cool way to fuck up the balance if they don’t plan it really well.

Campaign upgrades tend to break up the team work instead of reinforce it.

(Shanks) #6

But players get more health and weapons in W:ET, I don’t see how this will be an different…

(Lanz) #7

And how well does it work in W:ET? The extra clip for medics changes the game drastically, the panzer soldier getting an smg… no need for backup there etc. What it do is that it strengthen the individuals with the cost of less needed team work IMO.

(madness) #8

on clanwars its very hard to get those upgrades, if not impossible :stuck_out_tongue: pub yeah, but who cares about pub.
And they only last until new campaign starts.

(kamikazee) #9

Agreed, the medic getting an extra clip is a misbalanced bonus.
Maybe it would have been better if those rewards were shuffled.

(madness) #10

you think 30 bullets is enough ?? other classes had 30+30

(Lanz) #11

It worked in rtcw, it would have worked in ET too. And yeah leveling is usually disabled in CW’s so no wonder you can’t get rewards, that’s another thing, you have to DISABLE it for the game to be balanced in CW’s. Also, lots of matches are played on public servers, I would prefer the game being balanced in ALL situations.

Teamwork on a pub? All I ever see on pubs is rambo medics who don’t do shit for teammates. The thing that really unbalances the game is the ammo racks, without them a few of these rambos would have to be a field ops and that’d just kill them…

nope. then they would just selfkill when out of ammo

(Lanz) #14

And straight back to my point about rewards, yes ammo racks is also a big problem but wouldn’t have been such a big problem if they wouldn’t have gotten that extra clip. Then ammo racks would have been even more craved for but even harder to get ammo from, making people frustrated about not having enough ammo thus less medics and better balance among the classes.

edit: And by team work on a pub I mean that you need each other to complete the task at hand. Not coordianated attacks, and making up plans etc. That kind of team work is for clan matches.

I agree with the Swede.

new players just joining the campaign will be given “lone wolf” missions that have those players pursuing secondary objectives, since they would otherwise get torn apart by the higher-level players

If that’s how much difference it makes then there’s no doubt it unbalances the game. I really don’t want to play single player (“lone wolf” missions) for a while every time I join a multiplayer server just to get a fair game.

Which article was this in anyway?

/me crosses fingers hoping it’s another misunderstanding.

I dont think experience and the class levels they bring unbalances the game, but rather adds depth to the gameplay. You can really feel the differences in class levels and how your play improves in ET, and it adds depth by tactics changing - a lvl 4 Medic that can fully revive a teammate versus a lvl 1 Medic that only 1/2 heals on revive will be 2 unique gameplay situations while assualting the bank in Gold Rush.

Besides, you dont hear people complaining about the difference in class levels in ET- ie. people dont complain about being a lvl 1 Medic and fighting lvl 4 Medics. That is a BetaField 2 problem- better weapons being unlocked giving an advantage.

I think the ‘lone wolf’ missions are just an UI aid for newly joining characters. For instance, on Fuel Dump ET, the Axis CP and the tower destroyable by satchels may be listed as targets for a new Covert Ops when they join… this doesnt mean other covops cant do it, but maybe it’s not listed if you are already level 4 (assumes you know the objectives).

Here’s an idea, its a team game so at the end of each map how about the XP of the whole team gets totted up and then shared out among the team members at the start of the next round?

So 3 team members end the round with 90, 40 and 20 XP.
90+40+20=150
150/3=50
Everyone starts the next round on 50 XP

(kamikazee) #18

Socialistic XP rewards?
Whilst it sounds good, imo better players would moan on how they saved a round where others were just guarding a 1 m square spot.

(…)

Why the color ? To underline that they have been quoting someone. It’s called reported speech, right ? These are not verbatim words of Tim Willits.
This means they don’t have to be 100 percent accurate, since they’re giving their assumptions about the game.
I read somewhere (interreview) one of SD people saying that xp rewards are going to be balanced and generally not stronger than in W:ET. Also, SD kept saying over (interviews) and over that purpose of solo missions is to guide newbies.

Note that the same is also true for W:ET. more experienced players get +20 (or something) life for Battle sense. They get their pistol replaced with dual pistols, or smg (soldier).

No reason to panic.
