:bash: ok, here’s a noob question for ya…
I’ve got a 756/756 connection,bartonXP2800+ proc with 1g cas 2.0 333 F.S.B. ram 3 scsi 3 lvd 15000rpm <3msec raid 0 drive
and a geforce 4 ti 4600 se vid card.
Soo… what settings should I type into my server.cfg for optimal service?
The whole purpose of this box is a dedicated server and I like people to have a smooth ride. I’m looking for things like sv_max download rate, sv_hunk megs, sv_ commegs, sv_maxpackets, sv_fps, etc. Please help me, and thank you in advance.
Oh yeah. I’m changing my email to that ISP which gives me the 756/756kb/s bandwidth, so my temp email is verifun@hotmail.com if you’d email me I’d kiss your butt J/K
somebody please friggin' reply
I’m pretty sure someone posted links to full server configs. You should be able to find them if you have a peek through a few threads.
750kbits up …that doesn’t sound like much. I’ve seen servers with 10Mbit up bandwith crawl down to nothing once you get about 40 peeps in them. A server is a lot like a drunkard you see, and people are like drinks. Some servers can handle more drinks than others. But eventually once you get enough booze in them they all start to shake and stall and get dizzy and not know what’s going on…
…
…
so to answer your question I have no idea.
NoOfClients * MaxRate*10 < 756
(10 to account for communication overhead)
10 clients and sv_maxrate 7000 could be a start. The amount of data sent to each client depends on how much near-by action is going on, so having more clients/lower maxrate may get laggy. It’s a compromise though, so you have to find settings that you’re happy with.
Changing sv_fps from the default (20) will break some things according to Bani.
That’s all I know. :moo:
