solutions to a lack of populated servers

(shaftz0r) #1

figured i would start a thread for people to add ideas as to how to solve the current low population issue. i’ll start it off with a few.

i think an external server browser would help exponentially. people generally feel that nobodies playing, when that isnt really the case. its just that they seem to fill randomly, than empties when everyones sick of playing. the entire launch process is time consuming, and windowing kills fps (at least for me).

get rid of alpha servers, and make it one large rotation. if you’re doing regular updates, change it up accordingly, or even make a server with multiple game modes. execution is actually really fun and i think more people need to play it, but with one server being populated at a time, its hard to fill regular, alpha and/or execution.

add callvotes. mute, kick, shuffle, and maybe even nextmap are necessary, particularly with this small of a group of people. we need the ability to police/balance the servers ourselves.

i dont consider execution anywhere fun.

but very +1 for ‘all the maps on server + callvote map’
and for external browser

(INF3RN0) #3

there was a thread on Nexon about this, I suggested a lobby. Anti confirmed a lot of the ideas discussed would likely become features at some point.

(shaftz0r) #4

i think execution really shows how a team is supposed to move together. its extremely important to stick together, pack up, get revs ectectect. i think its a great place for newbies to start, and it can get really intense with elongated firefights with good players

Funny they introduced Phantom then, because you get pawned if you stay in group … I believe more that teams should split into 2-3 small groups of two at least and coordinate around the map. Just my point of view…

And yes, noobs can get familiar with the game easily in execution since they don’t have to learn the maps and objectives first.

(Glottis-3D) #6

i dont think this is for newbies.
it is for players with expirience in team-elimination mods from other games.
real newbies will get pwned and wait for entire match in spec, after killed in 1st 5 seconds.

i dont say this mod is useless. it is clearly not for everybody.
not for guys with a crush for obj-oriented games, like et/etqw/l4d2/tf2 etc.
i just find it boring.

Usually nice to warm up or once nobody is left on the obj/sw servers. But I agree that this may not be the best due to the time you might spend dead rather than learning. I learned W:ET the hard way and went straight on an obj server without any prior knowledge about it.

i agree to a certain extent, but i wasnt implying that 6 people should be traveling together. just meant the cohesion of moving together in general. fight, fall back, pack, someone else step in to shoot, med shoots, falls back, pack, rev ectect

as a person that only plays obj games, i still find execution fun for the reasons already mentioned. it takes the obj element out for someone to learn the movement and shooting mechanics without having an entire screen full of crap and people yelling at them to stop being useless :stuck_out_tongue:

^ same, and that was the best way, but not for everyone these days

  • Call Map Vote
  • Extend - Map Vote
  • Force “vote” at the end of a map, like some ET public servers had this
  • Lobby
  • Friends Tab in launcher / InGame

And at last … communication and marketing. There has been a lot of wrong communication and absolutely 0 marketing.
Badman just announced a reboot, but still we need a lot of new and interested players.

We are max. 10 players on a “good” evening, so currently I dont know what to say tbh

With 3 active ppl. it seems like ze germanz is ze most active player group, jaja, wunderbar! :stuck_out_tongue:

(RasteRayzeR) #10

I miss the old days when you could drop players into a game without any explanations and they would learn by themselves

(Ruben0s) #11

It’s not like people can’t do it. Look at Minecraft, Don’t Starve, DayZ etc etc etc. You get no tutorial at all and it takes a lot of time to learn the game. Those games are fun and thats why they are populair.

Extraction isn’t. And an external serverbrowser or nextmap votes isn’t going to make this game more fun and repopulate the servers/game.

(Glottis-3D) #12

Have to disagree.
I’d play play like 4 times WC, 3 times LB-alt, couple of times new blockouts / a day!!
and zero times all other maps. too bad that Waterloo came to this list.

now i play like 1 rotation and leave after WC.

(shaftz0r) #13

they wont make the game “more fun” but they will help people populate servers. the vast majority of people cant be bothered to launch the game just to see if people are playing, but say there’s a tiny window on this website for example that shows you what servers have people on them with map/player data. people would be far more likely to jump in much more often

(k0k0nat) #14

maybe the should include a fake server that says 13/16 players online and we all want to join!

+1 for “server window” or just something that tells us, that we can play with other ppl. - and a chat / matchmaking " hey guys, wanna play @ server X"

(Zarlor) #15

I agree on the external server browser! I fire up xT once or twice a day to check and see if anyone is playing, but it’s a little tedious. The other day about 8-10 people were playing on the NA server and it was a blast!

(meat) #16

I think the external server browser would help a lot. Used to leave the launcher open during the alpha phase all the time just to see how many people were online to play. Its a pain in the Butt to keep launching the game just to see all the servers empty.

(shaftz0r) #17

same. ide refresh it whenever i got to my pc to see if anyone was playing.

(Violator) #18

Lack of external lobby/browser is the big issue. It is annoying to launch the game only to find all the servers are empty :(.

(RasteRayzeR) #19

I smell a mobile or web app ?

(Protekt1) #20

I need the external browser as well. When I feel like playing xt, I don’t like booting up the game to find it is empty. And if I could check quickly I would check more often.
