Solo/Duo Queue in Ranked Season 1

(bontsa) #41

Righty, duo-qued for almost the entire evening with a teammate of mine. We were waiting to get put against our other mateys that qued simultaneously couple of times but meh, no luck on healthy competition bashing teammates skulls for a change  Anywho.

5 wins, 5 losses. Gotta say on average most balanced games so far I’ve had. I recall playing a little over 100 matches in pre-season, 90% of them in premade team of ours, so due small sample size can’t say anything definite yet. But I enjoyed this a lot! Had 1 or 2 stomps but even those weren’t those hopeless ones where you get spawncamped for 15minutes, we could’ve turned the tides. In one match we actually did turn a seemingly lost, steamrolling prediction, into our victory.

What I noticed that despite some of the previous season’s ELO being “transferred” over to next, skill differences are quite huge in unranked pool. No surprise there though. Quite a many people seem to think ELO would immediately know who is on what “level” skill-wise and that they don’t have to deal with potatoes. My only advice to them is: relax, they get their Bronze 5 (or whatever it’s called now) eventually and won’t bother Your Highnesses after ranks have been received and people get stuck mostly alongside their own rank’s level of players.

That or some people got too used to premade stomping and now that they actually have to play in order to receive something is too much to handle shrug

So quite a chaos at the start, but it got, least seemed so, more even and even towards the 7th, 8th game and so forth, even if we were still playing on Unranked level. Can’t say if it was coincidence or ELO at work, was enjoyable nevertheless.

As a very positive surprise people weren’t so stuck up, selfish and silent either as I thought they would be, communication- and teamplay-wise. Heck we even had a sing-along during one half-time with couple of completely random fellas. Sure, potatoes and jerks were here and there as usual, gotta just learn to deal with them. First mentioned get rarer the higher your rank goes, and latter can be ignored.

Ragequitting seemed to cease towards the end of our marathon too, penalties are quite harsh. Sadly that does result in couple of falsely put penalties for people who simply got booted off by game error and didn’t manage to rejoin, happened to me once and man that 2,5h penalty isn’t nice in that case. But it does stop constant RQ:ing, so good once servers get properly stable, if issue even lies within that.

TL;DR Play at the very least your 10 placement matches, grow a pair, stare challenge in the eyes and then you’re eligible to give doomsday feedback on the subject at hand. Unranked is chaos that gets towards the better side after every game. Good stuff. Can’t wait for more people to catch the ins-and-outs of 5v5 mode so premade games via ranked mode can be re-introduced.

@bontsa sounds like its workin great. More balanced games will make it more enjoyable and less rage quits are good.

(geronimoooo) #43

So I always played with two of my friends DB. We enjoyed playing ranked. But I didnt play since christmas until now. Went to play yesterday and we couldnt play ranked together :frowning:

So sad. 3 of us and we had to go to public to play, so we could be in same match. I logged off after one stop watch game, since thats how public feels.

(powi_) #44

Played ~15 ranked games so far… except the first some matches, where i played 3v5 then 4v5 (cause 2 guys left, then 1 guy left), the rest was pretty balanced and really really enjoyable. It was really hard for me (top gold rank) to play good matches, since at least 50% of the time i queued against 5 premades (cobalts or so).

Suprised to see that 5 men premades was only 7% of ranked population, but then i guess at higher ranks, it becomes 50% of population or so…

(furtiveRogue) #45

So how do I invite my friend to play in the duo with me?

(frankopeti) #46

This new system is the worst what devs could do! People who invest a lots of time and cash can’t play ranked with their friends or clan or whatever! This is a team based fps for the love of gud, I really enjoyed 5 man q , we could make some tactics go agents gud teams, having a great time , now Ian forced to play with 3 randoms who plays mm like it was a pub game:( I think a lots of us will play dirty bomb a lot less, thank u for the new mm system

(gossamerYouth) #47

There are soo many choises for the pub player. 5v5 6v6 7v7 8v8 obj sw execution.

But for the comp player there seems no room…

The comp player has to abandon his teammates, his tactics his game.
While comp gets opened for the pub players.

How does this increase playerbase?

PLEASE BRING BACK TEAMPLAY…

(eggplantSafe) #48

Just make it like DotA 2 - with solo and group ranked play :stuck_out_tongue:

(sonsofaugust5) #49

Group ranked 5 man teams should only match with other 5 man teams. I think that will solve a lot of the stomps and make it more team play. Only thing is, everyone is talking about how they play with a 5 man but when I played in a 5 man, we never faced another pr 5 man queue. A 5 man might end up waiting a long time for another premade of 5 to queue.

(eggplantSafe) #50

Yeah, that is true. Usually it was groups of 2 and 3 people thrown in together, even against groups of 5.

(Freddy) #51

nice job ruining a completely good game, DELETED

(Ardez1) #52

@Freddy Welcome to the forums. I suggest you read the rules located http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/240/forum-faq-rules/p1

Also, if you read the first post they said that group ranked would be re-added as soon as possible, just not in season 1. That isn’t a promise of when it will return, but that it will return.

I’m sure SD has it’s reasons, in fact a lot of them are explained in the OP.

Anyways. Please keep the forum clean :).

The argument about making ranked more balanced by removing 5 man pre-mades is pretty much the games equivalent of everyone getting a medal for participation. “Everyone is a winner, here is your gold star”

The people reasoning it and saying it is a good idea are completely missing the point we’re trying to make about it no longer being “competitive” and I’m sick of trying to explain the point.

Yes, you probably will have a higher chance at being able to win. Yes, the population might grow a little bit at least temporarily. We’re not arguing that at all.

What we are saying is that the mode itself is no longer competitive and that it is just random to5 pub play with double XP. You can’t argue against that at all. The teams are now random, strategies are gone, merc balance is gone, team work is gone, communication is gone. Literally every single aspect of competitive gaming is now missing from competitive mode.

It was literally the worst idea imaginable if the intention was to grow the competitive scene. If the intention was to just make a new mode popular then yeah well done, but it’s making the game as casual as ever and people outside the game view competitive mode as a joke. Believe me I’ve tried explaining it to friends who don’t even play Dirty Bomb and they all say the same thing. “How is it competitive if it forces you to play with random people you don’t know?” “How can you co-ordinate proper strategies and stuff without communication?” “That sounds incredibly retarded, that isn’t how competitive modes should function”

(Ardez1) #54

How many times do I have to post that the move to solo/duo is temporary and that 5-man will be back in the future… Hopefully it will be implemented much better then how it was before, but the change is temporary…

What is it with people on this forum and scaremongering to the nth degree? I mean there’s a sentiment in there that resonates with me entirely, but as @Ardez has pointed out and as is stated in the opening post of this thread, this is a stopgap measure to get people interested in the mode, taking part and keeping them involved. They have explained that they need to try and cater to the majority of players doing ranked (1 and 2 mans) until they have a more stable base, and SD have indicated that this is a decision that’s not permanent and that they very much want to cater to your needs as well.

Take a chill pill already. I was watching the DBN stream the other day seeing some awesomely competitive play, does that not appeal to you and your 4 bitter mates that don’t play dirty bomb?

(Swifty) #56

Is it just me or is anyone else struggling to find a game?

(ekiz) #57

Sum of people in respective ques were then

Solo: 43.6%
5-pre 21.5%
2-pre 18.4%
3-pre 9.2%
4-pre 7.3%

or am i wrong?

(Ardez1) #58

@ekiz You are wrong.

^ From the first post.

(ekiz) #59

Yes, that’s what i used. It doesn’t say ‘Percentage of players in respective Queries by size’.

(fuzzel) #60

pLZ give us the 5on5 comp matchmaking back…next week starts ocb worldcup and many teams need practice before that…
