So why the heck is Splash Damage so quiet on news?

(Dopaminergic) #1

It really annoys the heck out of me!

Buy a game from Splash Damage:

[ul]
[li]Game has abundance of deep, fixable flaws that I would’ve expected them to iron out before release
[/li][li]An update 2 days from release including free DLC in a month. That’s cool, but I’ve already paid 50 dollars for 20 dollars worth of content ;_;
[/li][li]Keep checking multiple times a day for news updates from SD. Constantly disappointed to find nothing.
[/li][li]Lots of terrible reviews coming in. Expect SD to be actively spinning news to help recover from an imminent train-wreck
[/li][li]Nearly a week after the last news update and still nothing
[/li][/ul]

Buy a game from CD Projekt:

[ul]
[li]Amazing, incredibly experience; GOTY
[/li][li]I personally only experience very minor technical issues that happen infrequently
[/li][li]The sheer awesomeness of the game makes up for the small issues and then some
[/li][li]Check news updates daily for TW2 just like I do for Brink
[/li][li]Multiple updates a day, everyday
[/li][li]CD Projekt, in typical CD Projekt fashion, straight out owns up to all of the issues and works dilligently to address them
[/li][/ul]

You are comparing apples to oranges regarding the genre and ratings people give these games…

The Witcher 2 also has problems like corrupted save games. There were problems with the installation. The CD Projekt guys are as much fallible as Splash Damage, maybe their publisher just ain’t as hard-pressed as Bethesda.

The only valid point you make is that SD doesn’t spread daily news at a central blog. They could post a daily message, but they do happen to update people by means of this forum. CDP’s forums seem to be down according to their dev blog, so they actually have no other means of communication than e-mail and their blog.

Be happy you can still rant on this forum, for the software did fail at some points and thus could have been shut down as well.

What forum updates?

Only valid point? Yeah, I don’t think so. I think you’re just trying to justify your wasted money.

(Dormamu) #4

after a month i will start to worry
i also have TW2 (take that LA Noir :D), i will wait for Skyrim until i give my personal GOTY award
i love/play them both, Brink for FPS, TW2 for RPG :stuck_out_tongue:
i don’t need them to tell my every day what’s happening, they are working to fix the game, and that is enough for me.

(amazinglarry) #5

I would imagine they’re hard at work, trying to pacify the masses? I doubt they’re sitting on any beaches, drinking mai tais.

I disagree with you on most of what you’re saying.

What I’m comparing between the games is not apples and oranges. Both companies have the same need to communicate well with players and both companies have the same need to produce polished games. In both of these aspects with their recent releases, CDP is much better than SP. Again, TW2 has minor tech issueswhile Brink has deep game design flaws. Also, TW2’s engines and game mechanics are way more complicated and harder to code than Brink’s. Ever opened up and looked at what was going on through the developer console? It’s a hideous sight and illustrates a lot of bad coding going on.

SD could make a central blog, but they don’t. They could update everyday, but they don’t. This is my point and what I very much dislike. I would really love for you to show me SD posts on this forums. I’ve been here a lot and I haven’t seen any. I just see them banning people who talk about how they hate Brink.

I’m not happy to rant here. I don’t want to rant, I want to enjoy Brink.

Every time any of them post in here it turns into a rage fest. I already got the sense that the game was getting released too early. And then they got pushed up a week early because of LA Noire. Seriously? They don’t ban people who talk about how they hate brink. They ban people who have no sense of civility and harass other forum members.

A lot of companies are far more forthcoming with information. If this game only had one or two little problems it would be fine to hardly announce anything.

We could use maybe some more specific details about what will be in this DLC.

We still have game breaking lag in half the matches. Our 8v8 is really 4v4. And in a game that was in development for years, you only get 1 game mode. Maybe this was their intention, or maybe it got cut with the other huge list of things that I suspect got dropped.

The only reason this game was released early was to dodge the LA Noire release, and try to beat them to the punch. Seeing as how if I knew half the details about this game I bet less than half the people would have bought it.

If I knew it had only 1 game mode, no lobbies, and zero stat tracking I wouldn’t have bought it. I’m sorry.

But now that its gone from a 60$ game to a 20$ trade in, i’m trying to get my 60$ of fun. It’s not the worst game ever made, but its certainly nothing near what I expected. Every single friend on my friends list has either traded it or moved on in just a weeks time. 2 buddies still have it, but they’re playing League of Legends over this.

8 others sold it back.

No doubt american money hungry Bethesada pushed the humble english company to relelase early. lol

Yeah, i would have to say those 3 points are Brink’s biggest downfall.

Lag happens everywhere. So do poor connections. If they were the most important factors, Gears Of War 2 would have failed dismally.

Those 3 points are listed the right way too for level of importance.

I don’t fault them for lag at all. I bet they fix it perfectly too, that i’m not worried about at all.

If you don’t have the money to beta test a game, you don’t have it. It’s that simple I don’t fault devs for lack of funding.

(Sabayon) #12

Most developers release patches at end of week anyways… Friday is coming… Lets see what happens

(Dopaminergic) #13

Sadly, I actually wouldn’t be so sure about that. There’s a good chance, especially given the rapidly dropping play count - 8k peak today on steam, that they’ve decided to just cut their losses and stop working on Brink.

It’s weird how few people know that brink has ONE game mode. I knew everything about Brink before I bought it. And it was the game I wanted so I bought it.

I feel bad for the people who didn’t do their research before buying the game. It’s only been in development for 3 years or so. Plenty of time to find out one of the main factors of the game. One game mode that is the antithesis of team death match.

(jmanelson) #15

Ive been waiting for a “SD why you no give us news” thread.

In all seriousness I think they do need to keep us informed on their current workings and what to expect and when.

With a game like brink that has a lot of kinks and SD telling us they will be fixed we should be informed on when they fixes are coming and what they will fix. We feel left in the dark because the once a week that SD does post in here its a small 1 sentence post that usually is ambiguous or its in repsonse to some troll telling him to stfu.

I did some pretty intense research on Brink, I don’t remember reading anywhere that it would not have other game modes, or a lack of stat tracking. I don’t remember them ever mentioning that it would specifically exclude these factors.

(Nail) #17

I remember them saying specifically that those modes were outdated and they would ONLY do objective class based team play, and stat tracking will be available on the brinkthegame.com site when enabled, so your intensive research seems to be lacking

(amazinglarry) #18

That’s just not how Splash Damage operates, I’m sorry.

But then again I’m not sorry, because that’s a good thing.

(Bakercompany) #19

If thats what they said, then they proved themselves wrong with the game they created.

What they showcased the entire time, and what we’re playing now aren’t even the same game.

This review sums it up for me. Puts it perfectly calling the lack of lobbies a rookie mistake.

Drop the condescending.

I knew the game would be ONLY objective based. But i would have hoped there may have been some missions with both offensive AND defensive roles for both teams.

I’m not bringing TDM into this because I don’t want it either. It’s why I followed this game in the first place.
