So, when Turtle and Javelin are released, are we STILL going to call this a Beta Build?

(watsyurdeal) #1

Because seriously, that’s a stretch, we’re nearing a whole year in Open Beta.

You can’t honestly tell me we’re still in a beta at this point.

(Dawnlazy) #2

Release of Turtle should come with Dockyard and be a special event where the game is officially fully released.

…what is even the difference between an F2P game that is in open beta and a fully released one? The F2P model means that the game will constantly have new content in development anyway.

(Sinee) #3

They’ll probably never fully release it. It’ll be an “open beta” forever. Staying “open beta” makes the most sense for an F2P game. It’s good “damage control” and ass coverage.

(PastrySama) #4

Commercial Beta should get 2% nerf

(blonk) #5

Mmmm, ass coverage…Oh hey, there’s Javelin!

World of Tanks was in open beta for what, 4 years? I don’t think there’s any hurry, what does it mean in reality? “Expect bugs”?

looks like a beta to me

(Amerika) #7

I’ve written a book on this subject so I’ll keep this short.

I’d wager they want to finish the major features like the queue system and community servers and fix up spec mode first. Get the bugs under control and get a few more maps out. Then do a release, which Steam allows, that puts them on the front page again and then do a paid marketing blitz for the game. At that point, unlike last time, it will be fully featured, tons of content, hopefully few bugs and a great experience for everyone of all skill levels. And it will have all the features to support a competitive scene. I think waiting to remove a watermark makes sense.

So, exactly why do you feel like that should be done now is my question? What benefits are there?

(Jostabeere) #8

As much as I want Javelin to be real, was it ever confirmed that she is more than just an idea, a 3D female model and a Rocket Launcher model within the files? Like is she even a planned merc?

(Mr-Penguin) #9

“Falcon” was debunked. Javelin was not.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

(doxjq) #10

I’m guessing Javelin was real, otherwise where was everyone getting the name from? None the less I doubt they planned the rocket launcher without at least drafting a merc that would use it, and I doubt they’d keep it in the game files if they had no intention of ever using it.

Unless they were going to give it to someone else who is already in the game, but I highly doubt that was the case.

(B_Montiel) #11

If they turn the game into a final state at some point in the merc release (like Amerika, I’d prefer they do essential stuff for the game first instead), there’s more chance that it might be prior to javelin. Every other mercs including turtle were already tested back in alpha at some point.

somebody’s called me?

(SteelMailbox) #13

Ever heard of Warframe? Yeah, that game is 3 years beta.

(Szab95) #14

Rocket launcher is in the game, well at least I could spawn with one in offline server before the update but I haven’t tried since.

(Runeforce) #15

List of mercs that was entirely conceptualised and implemented (before Steam and open beta,) since after the rocket launcher first appeared in the game files: Aura, Bushwacker, Fletcher, Kira, Nader, Phantom, Phoenix, Red-Eye, Rhino, Sparks, Stoker and Turtle.

So I would not hold my breath for ‘Javelin.’ It’s the infamous merc that a lot of players asked for, but never existed, except as a high level concept at SD Towers. If I were to guess, I think Nader evolved out of that idea.

(Amerika) #16

Also, a “panzer” class would not work very well in DB with the smaller maps without severely nerfing the potency of the rocket launcher compared to what a panzer could do in wolf/et. It would be extremely hard to balance while also be extremely hard to keep from being seen as “OP” by new players or just outright annoying to everyone.

So, honestly, I wouldn’t want Javelin in the game as the rocket launcher would mostly be an “i win” button at the worst and “extremely annoying” at it’s best with the way DB plays and the map sizes IMO.

(KUST__LunarTM) #17

I still want a female merc that can use the M4 and Timik.

This. Also, I know it’s “Dirty Bomb” but for me personally, the amount of explosive & things that go “boom” spam in this game is already pretty mind-numbing.

(SaulWolfden) #19

Another female Merc besides Nader who actually has 100 hp or more.

(Cuck) #20

i think, I THINK,

the rocket will be like M10 Bursting Smoke (White Phosphorus) rockets.
http://64.78.11.86/uxofiles/mulvaney/images/Rocket-Smoke-M30.jpg

and the launcher itself looked like LAW with extra pistolgrip

when it hit it spreads like a thin smoke, it doesnt hurt much but then they will get severe burns and debilitation that can only be healed by medic or waiting for 10 seconds.
the debilitation+burn damage would be like 60 over 10 seconds.

the cooldown would be like skyhammer airstrike cooldown.
the + over skyhammer with the rocket, you can use it inside a building.

but that kinda would trigger some minorities…
