So when do you think they are going to-

(stealthyCharm) #1

-make the game run-able for other users? I know I’m sounding like a jerk, but it could increase the base players. A lot of them quit because of this. (There were a couple of threads about quitting because of the optimization.)

And most players don’t want to use a config because they want good graphics and FPS stable.

But I know it’s a lot to ask. Hope this will be address before the summer begins.

i mean idk why they had to ruin all the configs, yeah some of them removed explosions and stuff but they also removed the ability to make all the textures filmy looking…i miss my 200+ fps now im stuck with 90-120 fps

(Amerika) #3

What kind of system do you run? My laptop from 2011 gets 90-125 consistent with no frame hitching or drops. I was pretty surprised by this. I also switched it over to the integrated graphics card to see how awful it was and I actually got 70-90FPS consistently. All while running at 1080p as well. My desktop gets 250-330fps.

Now, this is 100% anecdotal, but I swear people who have AMD processors/gpus tend to have a lot more FPS issues than people like myself who are fully Intel/Nvidia (laptop and desktop). Do you happen to be running amd at all? Or Gsync/Freesync?

I can confirm.

AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz, Radeon R9 270, and 8gb DDR3 1866… most settings on low or disabled and only get about 90-120 fps.

How do you get 90-125 frames on a laptop? That’s amazing, because my laptop is from 2015 or 14 and I can only run 30 to 40 FPS stable…Using a config…I know I should get a Computer, but I don’t have the money, but I don’t mind the config.

It’s an i7 Sandy Bridge with an Nvidia 550m. UE3 games are heavily CPU reliant and that processor, while not nearly as beefy as a desktop counterpart, isn’t awful. So I’d wager it has more to do with that than anything. Also, many laptops that aren’t specifically built for it have major heat issues with games. Mine will overheat if I don’t keep it propped up in the air so that the bottom vents can help dissipate heat and sometimes I need to run a fan on it to further help. It will clock itself down to 1ghz if I don’t watch the heat which is probably an undiagnosed issue a lot of players have with the game with laptops (even though it can happen on desktops too).

I’ve had to restrict my CPU to 90% because it was causing crashes in BF4 and DB

That sounds like issues you get when your CPU is overclocked too much (which I have a lot of experience with). Could you maybe run a program like Prime95 or another well known CPU stress testing suite and see if you get errors/crashes. If you see issues then you might actually have a bad CPU. http://www.mersenne.org/download/

Oh, and using Open Hardware Monitor is also quite handy to keep track of cpu/gpu temps.

Well that laptop from 2011 has to have cost over $900.
Any laptop you buy under that price today probably will not get a stable 60 fps with the settings at medium with 1080p.

You are right about UE3 being heavily cpu reliant.
If your intel core isn’t i5 or higher the game is just simply not going to be playable.

This problem was made worse when they added the new anti-cheat system BlackCipher which gobbles up an insane amount of cpu. Ever since that update i’ve gotten a drop in 10-20 fps.

And ohhhhh let me not get on the crashes, lag spikes, and memory leaks people constantly have.

If DB wants to appeal to the most possible people they need to make optimizations to allow people with no so good computers to play. I don’t know why they removed the ability to make the game look smooth and simple.

It cost me right at $1000. I was very picky in regards to sales and the hardware that I was getting. I wanted an i7, 1080p/17 inch screen, at least a 550m and all for $1000 or under. After a month of searching I finally hit a magical unicorn sale and bought it.

It most certainly was/is a temp issue. The stock cooler the CPU comes with looks like it belongs to 900mhz pentium 3. Back to water cooling I go, at least this time it won’t cost me $500 for the kit lol.

(Amerika) #12

Yeah, watercooling today is pretty cheap and easy to setup. I am currently running a Swiftech h220 (I believe) on my desktop. It’s the first time I’ve used water cooling where before I was running Noctua coolers. It was pretty easy to install and I haven’t had any heat/reliability issues despite running an intel 4770 at 4.6ghz for 2.5 years straight.

(FalC_16) #13

oh man, I run my 4770k on 4.2GHz… although I don’t have water cooler. I heard NOCTUA NH-D15S is a beast of a cooler. You think I should go for water instead? I think it was you who said this game is UT engine which is mostly CPU bound.

I run DB on 250fps …so I don’t need to o’clock yet, but maybe other games might run smoother.

(god1) #14

It’s Unreal Engine 3. Don’t expect it to run well on anything, be happy if it does.

If you wanted to eek out some more performance it might help but if you’re good with 4.2 then it’s probably not worth the extra cost of either a Noctua or a watercooling setup with a processor that is now, believe it or not, starting to get a bit dated. I’d wait and do it on your next build in a few years or maybe try a cheap but good alternative ($15-25 depending on sales) and use a Coolermaster EVO 212 cooler.

I am confused.

Going to
When

And tbh, if people want good graphics in 2015, they have to get stable rigs.

Dell XPS17 by chance?

Indeed! It’s what I am typing this response on right now actually as it’s hooked up as my entertainment system in my living room.

R9 390, FX 8310, high (no post fx or AA) 40-350fps (cutscenes) This game is well optimized

I’ll put dashes next time.
R9 390, FX 8310, high (no post fx or AA) 40-350fps (cutscenes) This game is well optimized
The game might be very well optimized for you and all the others. And it may be a fact.

But I’m also talking about the people that have a potato rig. For example me, but I’m fine with it and all. Just wish they could also, you know? Make the config as a setting. That make it easily for others because they wouldn’t have to go through the process of using a FPS config.
