So The World cup is nearly over what next OCB

(Ads913) #1

My next idea which i am hoping for is a ryder cup(golf) Quake wars style game.
The idea would be Europe vs America,Canada.
I am looking for a sponsor to provide 24 games or 12 pre ordered Brink games.
I have approached a few companys but have heard nothing.
So if you fancy putting up some prizes cause your really rich or fancy calling the cup after your company name or your name feel free

So to the quake wars universe i am going to throw the idea out to you

What do we already know .
Well it will be 12 players per team.
Vanilla style like the world cup.
3 or 4 ladies within the teams

what we dont already know.
what format I.e over 3 days, weeks, etc
point a campaign ,stopwatch
15 points a winner
4x4 then 8x8 then 12x12 ladies vs ladies
Or all

Who would fancy playing would you pay a entry fee.

So give me your ideas i will pick the best one and might put a prize for the best reply
go to WWW.OCB-SGS.co.uk

Out of curiosity, are you planning on playing some sort of golf game in quake wars (as seen in the video with the third eye husky thing) or just that style of matches where teams would get points based on some kind of par system?

(Ads913) #3

not golf totle but loosley on the concept that in golf the yanks(in this case Canada as well) think they are the best .What happens when you get all the good european players. Put then in a fight then blam…thats the challenge.

its just a good excuse for a good old battle

(Aristotle) #4

ah ok, sounds like fun. If you do it on a weekend or very late night for NA folk I’d be more than happy to die to some euro’s.

(Ads913) #5

Looking for sponsorship still .though possible 12 pre copies of brink from a certain company would be a nice.

(light_sh4v0r) #6

Asking that here isn’t going to get you very far I’m afraid, certain companies don’t check the SD forums

here a few suggestions from me

12 players per team is stupid maximim 6on6

vanilla mode is stupid promod ownz

in vanilla mode are games against us teams unfair…

plz make a 6on6 promod cup with 3-4 standard maps and 1-2 custom maps for teams all over the world

promod servers in more countrys uk,germany, poland, spain etc…

server cfg can make the community…

If I understood right there are only going to be two teams, one North American team and one European team, not one team per country like in the world cup. Even if some of the competition players didn’t want to play in a 12v12 I am sure there would be plenty of others who aren’t as familiar with competition who would be happy to play. I think Ads is doing this for the whole community, not just the competition players, so catering to just comp people would be kind of pointless.

I don’t really see how a 12v12 in vanilla is unfair against European teams if we played on European servers? I know there would be an issue with ping and vehicles but on a European server wouldn’t you be at the advantage over the North American players?

(treefrog) #9

I don’t understand the whole superiority factor of having to play promod anytime a fun competition is mentioned.

(Seanza) #10

Fzl, they’re not using promod because they’re not a promod clan/team. This competition is only for the lolz, and you have to take your hats off to them for arranging this. There’s nothing wrong with using Vanilla for what they’re wanting to do here. ETQWPro is only really useful for enforcing certain rules / easily downloadable megatextures and some competitive features such as lock team, speclock and pause (in Vanilla you need an admin to pause the game), so they simply don’t need it for this fun tourney.

Guys, what do you need for sponsorship? TLR can provide some Euro servers if needed, just let me know. Also, don’t go looking for 12 copies of BRINK, £420? :stuck_out_tongue:

My ideas:

  • The format should be 6on6

Although I’m a promod player, I’ve played several 12on12 matches. Due to the massive lag, it is almost impossible to find out the winner of such a match. You can’t play properly there and show the opponents your real skills.
My second point is, that a 6on6 is much more easier to manage, even for beginner clans.
12on12 would be just spam and chaos. (Ever tryed to manage 6 players? Not that easy as you may think)

  • Cup can last over weeks
  • Clans should participate

We all know the situation of QW already, but the OCB Cup was a big success!
But if you will stick to the “country idea” there will appear different problems.
Who is allowed to play for one country and why? Who decides the players? Are there enough players from the Chirstmas Island?
Better solution would be to get clans into the cup. There are still many fun clans (however you call them) out there, who would never get the chance to play something like a “World/ Nation Cup”. Furthermore there won’t be problems to get enough players, because you can take randomly some.

  • Same conditions for all clans

Ok, let me explain that particularly.
In the first stage of the matches, all clans should play exactly the same maps. For example: On Sunday the 13.37.11 all participating clans must play “Valley” and “Volcano” and for decider “Volcano” again. This gives you the advantage to compare the clans on the first match day, to see their strengths and their weaknesses on the first maps. In addition no clan can have excuses and say: "We would have performed better on Slipgate because of… whine whine " or “Team XY had just luck, that they played Salvage vs team Random”

If there are matches among EU and NA players, it is fair to play one map on a EU and the other map on a NA server. Server for decider map depends on tossing a coin

  • Maps should be announced at least 5 days before the match
  • Vanilla mode with stopwatch and no rules are ok

Many fun clans like this mode.

  • What about 2 custom maps? I would like to see “Maridia” and “Radar”

Some Cups in the past showed, that these maps are alright to play.

  • There should be always an admin on the server

For the missing pause function or to clarify problems and so on.

In the end I got some questions:

What do you mean with “3 or 4 ladies within the teams” ? “15 points a winner”, what about the points of a draw?

If you can really win copies of Brink, the fun is “over”

(Seanza) #12

I think some people are missing the point here. This is not a “loads of teams from EU play against loads of teams from US” type of cup.

It’s 12 Euros vs. 12 Americans. That’s it.

(treefrog) #13

I think if there are more than 12 players per team, there should be a game limit for each player.

For example, if there are 3 maps, each player can only play in 2 maps. Thus creating playing time for everyone. I understand that this is meant to be something fun for the community, so I’d love to see new players, even regular pubbers, play on this.

It’d be more entertaining.
my opinion.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the feedback some good stuff there.
I will try and explain this Cup is much like the Ryder cup in golf.
The best players in America(Canada included).
Looking at some of the excellent players we had in the World Cup from Europe like Germany,Spain,Poland Etc i think we can put a great game of Quake together. The problem is the format.
Again its not really a clan based game its based on players playing in a fun at the same time edgey game. Pretty much what Seanza said is exactly nailed it.With one exception We have asked several pc based copmanies to buy 12 Brink steam pre orders ro spice things up .Just waiting for the greenlight

For example we could be host the games using 2 servers 1 in the UK and 1 in the US to balance ping issues.
The days we play over 3 nights Friday,Saturday,Sunday
Do we play Campaigns or Stopwatch or single maps .
Do we play 1 point for a win .In the ryder cup its 1st to 15.
i think 12 player squad is important or do you think more players would be better.
Should we play mixed games 1 session 4x4 on Us server and at the same time 4x4 on the Uk server.
2 session 6x6 etc etc.

In the future i hoping to have other events that generate interest in the game and at the same time give somthing for everyone even the pros and mod player so watch this space(maybe www.Ocb-sgs.co.uk space).

(Seanza) #15

Don’t play it over a Friday, Saturday & Sunday. That’s asking people to devote their weekend to the fun tournament. Don’t think that’s gonna happen.

(Kl3ppy) #16

Funny, always the same dont get it …
cmon fzl, rex, u arent that stupid …

(.Chris.) #17

Who decides who’s going to play for each side?

Considering your hoping for a prize of 12 pre orders, each team will most likely have a roster of exactly 12, realistically who’s going to play in roster that is greater than 12 only to see someone else get a prize if they win.

This brings me back to my initial question, only those lucky enough to be picked to play have a chance to win the prize everyone else interesting is stuffed, there should be some sort of qualifying procedure for each team so everyone interested can enter but only those good enough actually go through to represent each side. How you do this I haven’t a clue.

(Ads913) #18

The players can be a real issue.
I like the idea that treefrog put forward to give pubbers a real chance.
Like previous tournaments you cannot keep everyone happy.
I would like to at least invite the guys who played and dedicated there time to the world cup.
I can rely on these guys.
Put the idea out there again

(Apples) #19

I would like to see squads of 3 entering a promod cup, then each game we mix 2 squads vs 2 squads to make a 6on6, each winners get points etc…

I havent the time neither the servers / money atm, but I think it can be fun, this way we split up a bit the teams which are “too” good and everyone has a chance to play with / against better player to learn faster.

I’ll keep that in mind anyway and if qw isnt RIP for good in december I might try this format. Once i come up with proper rules for the winning point I might run a cup.

Peace
