after ETQW faded I moved over to L4D till Wolfenstein came out. I logged some 3 hrs on that mess and went back to L4D, then on to L4D2.
I then gave BFBC2 a shot, only because someone sent it to me as a gift. I tried that for some 18 hrs and back to L4D2.
I like ETQW type of game much more than L4D, but almost all my online gaming buddies are gone so L4D2 does it for me now.
I used to play Wolf:ET regularly for years w/ all my friends.
I don’t think there are any games out there that have anything on Wolf:ET or ETQW but the situation of people I play w/ has changed and L4D2 does it for me now…maybe Brink will bring us all back together, only time will tell.
Well I’m pew-pew’ing ppl on BC2 now, mostly cuz all of my ol’fellas play this game, well squad dm is fun to play / rush is ok, anything but conquest anyway can make the deal.
I’m having good time shooting down copter with one tank shot its easier than in qw IMO
Yeah the game is pretty much uber flawed and bugged, but at least it came like fresh air to me as I’m UBER bored with QW.
Is it better than QW? certainly not, is QW getting boring after one+ year, certainly yes… thats why I needed to move, maybe I’ll come to nirvana from time to time, but I have less gaming time into my hands nowaday, so its far from certain!
As Brink wont make the deal for me, I think i’ll move into other kind of game waiting for some duke nukem or a new quake etc…
Played through BC2 in like a week or two, got all guns and the game just ended right there. Sure, you can still get some fun in tight teamplay modes with motivated enemies like squad rush, but, let`s be honest, almost any game is like that. And ***n DICE screwed up even that, denying players their right to switch teams while in match, which leads to 4 on 1 situations way too often.
ETQW? I still get on servers from time to time, mostly custom maps or stock when my buddies are playing. Same story with QL.
I guess in the end it boils down to ET style gameplay spoiling us outright. We want something class and objective based, preferably by SD, and hardly settle for less. So, Brink is like a ray of hope for me, a way to unite those old salts yet again.
Played some single player games Batman Arkham (was OK)
Mass Effect then Mass Effect 2 and i’m F’n Addicted
MP BC2 which is ok but my rig is a bit old for it and my frame rates seem to drop in higher populated games which means I can’t get a game too often on the OCB-SGS server, our squad deathmatch one is fine but 32 players just annoys the crap out of me…any one else have a similar problem?
Realy looking forward to Brink…arrrrgh it seems so far away
Yeah, you got that right. I remember way back in the early days of ETQW, after maybe three months of straight QW, I loaded up BF2 for ****s and giggles. What a mess. Everything else just seems like a cluster ****.
Just to chime in on this thread, i still find that playing ETQW is still the most fun since i started playing in late 2008. Did try L4D but its not that fun, no place for a newbie to start out.
My best gaming experience, that is what this thread is really about.
Wolfenstien for floppy disk was the ****, it was a mans game along with quake later. However, Goldeneye 007 was the best experience I ever had with FPS. The rush was kind of like, cars in the early 1900s. Women getting onto the cars would pass out from enjoyment of moving fast in cars(something like 20-30mph tops heh). Senses are dulled to those kind of things nowadays. Goldeneye was like that for me as a kid. It was simply an amazing experience gaming.
ETQW was a great game, not my best experience but definitely in the top 3. However, in my adult life so far, it has been the best game I’ve played. Nothing really matches it solidness.
Playing alot of TF2 and SC2 these days, mainly out of boredom. No game out there is really quality anymore, and I refuse to buy a product that ****s on quality… like BFBC2.
i really wanted to make wolfenstein my main when it came out but i don’t need to say more. bad company 2 is worse than wolfenstein. at least wolfenstein had an enjoyable single player.
neotokyo is the only other team based fps that holds up after many months of playing and is my always close by secondary in case my clanmates aren’t signed into etqw.
here’s to brink being a worthy successor :stroggbanana:
Ha! I think I saw you waiting for that server Pony. I saw you on my friends list and you were not on a server. I should have said hi while we waited. So, as you can tell I still try ETQW now and then. Nothing is more exciting than a good, close game of ETQW.
I have only had one or two exciting moments in BFBC2 and in ETQW it’s interesting all the time. I still like Battlefield: Heroes as my other FPS game because it’s a pretty good team based shooter under the cartoon exterior. I have liked everything I’ve read about Brink and I can’t wait to make it my main game.
It’s more about the search for greener pastures. And if anyone actually found it. Which it really doesn’t sound like many have.
If it was about best gaming experiences, I would have had to mention my time with BF1942. Not so much the game itself, but because it had the greatest modding community (creators and players) that I personally (Key word there. Don’t get all fussy) got to experience.
Little did I know how precious that time was.
Huh, I must have been asleep at the wheel. Or taking a leak. I would remember seeing Zarlor. Been ages. Good to hear you still stop in once in a while.
BTW, I’m typing this as I wait for my turn in one of 2 (oohhh) populated NA servers.
Nah really, gold version (1.4) multiplayer was a beast, now each time a FPS comes out the dev feel the need to complexify the thing, which result in lag , no hitboxes,no balance, many stuff we dont care about, etc etc…
As for the map, I played SoF2 V1.0 along with 1.4, and in 1.0 I played KAM2 for like 4 years straight, no other map, not any other mod than CTF, and yet it was fun and a new experience each time, why cant ppl achieve these simple things nowadays? I think its because the market is now too huge, too much games, they focus on a sequel before the actual first game is released, they try to gather any noob console (sry) player they can, porting a crappy 3 or more year old console game on an high end pc, the list can go long…
Any gaming company dont give a crap about their fan nowadays (its mostly cuz of publisher IMO, not really from the dev, cuz if they dare to step up, they wont have monies to do their games), the “communities” are filled with noob who dont care if the matches are balanced and if everyone have at least a bit of fun playing. Well, thats a freaking rant I must admit, but I dont think I’m the only one thinking like that.
Anyway yeah, SoF2 SP ruled, SoF2 gold MP ruled too IMO, nothing compared to the quake series but still, it was some kind of fresh air after the usual, grab the RA then the RL and you win!
Generally play only idtech engine FPS games. Tried with Wolfenstein but since it failed…
There’s nothing better than ETQW for me atm. Let’s see what Rage brings…
As for summer, just as someone sugested, I have bought a non-FPS game - Starcraft 2 (comes out end of July, was a loong time on my wish list ;)). This game can’t fail by default. Plus the 1st third of it is as big as SC1 + Broodwar together (SP).
As for Brink it is too far away to plan, plus who knows, it could fail…
