I rarely play ET anymore - CoD has sort of replaced it - but I tried again today for the first time in quite some time and was diappointed to see the current server conditions. I was overwhelmed by all the garbage I have to download in order to play on a server these days. I’m not talking about maps, but about custom pak-files, watermarks and whatnot. In the earlier days, you could pretty much connect to any server without too much hassle. The worst part is that most of these provide very little bandwidth for each player to download this junk. It can take quite some time to download a whole lot when the rate is at 5 KB/s. Add this to the fact that so many server runs two or three custom maps with 10 in campaign rotation, finally getting aboard a server can be quite a bumpy ride.

Get your shit together and quit wasting my time.

Yeah, I gotta agree with Cerebrate. I actually started playing again about a month ago after a 6 month break, and was frustrated by the amount of servers that require custom pak file downloads. But what is even more annoying is that the pak files won’t actually download. I can download maps, watermarks and whatenot, they all go fine. I have downloads enabled, the system just hangs when I encounter one (a pak). Then its a minute or so before the comp. responds, so its a big pain in the ass to try to log onto a server. That’s usually another reason why I have a list of “favorites” that I connect to 95% of the time.

of course there will be. u have left the game for sometime and u come back there are bound to be new mods, maps and stuff to download

the other day i got my hand on a copy of RtCW so i installed it and couldnt even play it on public till i downloaded OSP, 1.4 and 1.41. then i needed a load of new maps. took me all night and i got a cfg :wink: but if u leave a game then comeback to it, u are of course going to have to download stuff to keep urself updated

and ET is boring and shit if u play on 10 map campeign servers anyway. try the BiO or eftylyst server if u live in europe or locked Box if u live in the US for a better gaming experience

I usually play there, but on average I have between five to ten minutes because the’re always full. Especially Efterlyst.

I wouldn’t have complained if the things I had to download were useful or good, but it’s garbage, so I don’t think you can compare it OSP or some other mod.

Hmm, I don’t think that the packs are garbage.
I think the great part (in MB) of the DL’s are new map’s.
There aren’t that much sound / skin / graphic pack’s. And I think they aren’t spread that much (unfortunatelly).
The watermarks and campaign files are little files.

Personally I have a few server in my favourite list.
And if I connect to a new server and download last too long I quit this server and try to connect to another one.

A single executable that’ll bareback ET and take her through to the latest patched versions of vanilla and ET-Pro with ‘6 of the best’ custom maps included ?

When I eat snacks crisps/chips, the last pieces are really small. This is a great problem for me. I can hardly use them for dipping.

anywayz… i havent been on a server the last few weeks that had a watermark on…
and custom campaigns are on 2 keep things exciting and not having thesame rotation over and over again!

lol ok FO to CoD then, cause tbh ETpro > osp as a mod, its so much more versititle and has many more options. also if u are downloading maps then it doesnt have n e thing to do with the mod and watermarks etc are only very small files. so relax grab a drink, let them download and play the best fps game there is
