So, let's talk aiming habits

(Vampwood) #21

The author of the GUI has said that the sensitivity value doesn’t seem to really do anything and can be left at 1. Tried it myself setting it really high and really low, doesn’t seem to make a difference.

That said, it doesn’t make a difference so you don’t need to change it :p
Oh Ive just been keeping it the same as my in game, so didn’t really notice if anything was wrong.

(Ghosthree3) #22

Well like I said it, doesn’t really matter. Just pointing it out so you don’t try and ever tweak that value to get results.

(Amerika) #23

I’d say that perhaps you never found that perfect set up that let you do both well. But since what you’re using now works great anyway there’s not much point in testing it.

SAD.
Oh, I found the perfect setup and used it for years and years in Q3. However, when I started branching out competitively to other games (while still playing Q3 competitively) and also attending tons of LAN events settings got a lot more complicated to get right, in a limited amount of setup time, on machines that weren’t your own in games that didn’t support the exact type of accel. It was simply better to learn how to play from a more typical setup than it was to make everything exactly like your super custom home setup for one game. It’s one of the reasons why I practice 180’s and use those to set my sensitivity and call it good after that. Simplicity won in this situation for me.

I found out that the success I had in Q3 had little to do with accel and more to do with me just becoming a better player. I stopped using accel in Q3 and it was a shock at first. But then I was back to the exact level of play within two days.

But that’s just me. YMMV and I highly recommend at least trying new setups.

(Ghosthree3) #24

Yeah that makes sense. My set up now pretty much can’t be replicated anywhere else so I’d be screwed for any kind of LAN event.

(Vampwood) #25

This is the key to all of it. Theres no perfect setup for everyone. Ive only started using accel in this game, after years of no accel.
1. What sens do you use in game?
2. What DPI do you use? How about Polling Rate and the mouse you use?
3. Do you move your whole arm or just your wrist?
4. Do you rest your elbow on your chair or on the desk?
5. Do you use a large mousepad or a small one? Or none at all?
I was asking myself the very same question as you a while back. It seemed like I was always getting my ass handed to me. Not surprising, since DB is my first FPS. But now I’ve found settings that work for me. Maybe some things will be helpful to you too.

  1. 800dpi. 1000hz. Razer HEX Naga (it’s kinda epic being able to bind my reload, abilities, crouch and all that fun stuff right on the side of my mouse. Highly recommend!).
  2. Combination of both.
  3. Elbow is on my chair’s armrest but I still have full mobility of my forearm.
  4. Fairly big. Steelseries QCK made a huge difference for me by giving me lots of room.

Also worth noting, I use the small dot crosshair in red and it seems to help me aim for headshots in 1v1’s of most range 10x better than the medium dot most use… this helped me substantially. But! I also use 1280x720 at 16:9 aspect ratio on my native 1920x1080 monitor. Stretches the picture a bit and makes tracking heads and targets easier for me.

Hope you can find something comfortable for you. Good luck!

Here are my scrub settings. Don’t try this at home…

  1. 11
  2. Led off 3240, Led on 5670… don’t ask me what this means, I have no idea.
  3. Wrist
  4. I rest’em
  5. I’d call it medium. I have a big hand, but since I’m using my wrist Its somewhat of a waste really.

claw or palm grip? - uuuhhhmm… I think its fingertip style

regular or inverted y-axis? - inverted

I wouldn’t say it works out, but this is how I roll… hence “Here are my scrub settings.”

Edit: my mouse is a steelseries sensei.

(SteelMailbox) #28
  1. 10
  2. 1000dpi
  3. wrist
  4. chair but sometimes hanging (not on purpose)
  5. small

Claw or palm. Palm
I hate inverted

And if you care I use a non gaming mouse “Rapoo 7100p”

(Ghosthree3) #29

Hail.

(watsyurdeal) #30

I had that one for a while, but I didn’t like the feel of it, at least not compared to the Razer Goliathus, which was soft and almost silky, whereas the QCK was great as far as no friction at all, but just felt plastic, and easy to sweat on.

(Ghosthree3) #31

Are you sure you got the right Qck? It’s felt, not plastic.

(watsyurdeal) #32

Well maybe it was the older version, this was back in 2009

  1. What sens do you use in game?
7 Sens. I personally feel like having a slow sensitivity like mine helps alot with tracking. Don’t think high sensitivity is very useful in this game.

  2. What DPI do you use? How about Polling Rate and the mouse you use?
1200 dpi, using Logitech g600 (Yes, it’s an MMO mouse. Had an G500 before but got used to the numbers on the side of the mouse now. Really helps with stuff like fragger nades and easier swapping between weapons.) Dunno about polling rate, not quite sure what it is. Never messed with any other mousesettings than dpi though.

Edit: Looks like Polling Rate is 1000, which was the default.

  1. Do you move your whole arm or just your wrist?
    Just wrist

  2. Do you rest your elbow on your chair or on the desk?
    Chair usually.

  3. Do you use a large mousepad or a small one? Or none at all?
Large one, it’s a 1 meter razer mousepad. Keyboard is also on it.

@Ghosthree3 hehe knew that would come up. Story is my previous mouse that was my companion through my more serious gameing days had angle snapping build in (didn’t knew that back then). Since I’m kinda unhappy with the way things handle on my end in DB (maybe I’m just getting old) I thought I try to see if it brings me closer to what I’m used to.

On the technical end of things the way it works in QL Driver it only becomes notable on long fast movement, so everyday tracking/aiming isn’t affected. But on fast 90/180s it will help a bit with keeping things level which helps me a bit.

Btw. kinda funny. Only because of your screenshot in another tread, I became aware of the whole accel. stuff. But afterwards watching one of @Vampwood Sparks videos I was thinking man I bet he is using accel. Once you know how it works it is fairly easy to spot  .

(capriRocket) #35

g100s, roughly 60cm/360, no accel cause i cant be bothered installing them ql drivers and running in test mode all the time ^^

the sens is just so that its low enough to do 1cm flicks on distant enemies with the revivr or BR16 etc. (1 inch = 2.5cm).
if it was higher id lose a lot of accuracy.

mousepad is either a 1m long plastic sheet from the local do it yourself store, which lost its glide slightly haha.
or a cqk heavy.
or currently some tiny (35x25) logitech pad which has great glide.
for me the hard pads work better for tracking as i have less resistance than on my cloth one, but its more or less a thing of getting used to.

finger grip mousing, mostly only fingers or wrist, whole underarm for hectic stuff or close range tracking/moves.

oh yeah my mousefeet are 4 metal washers attached with pieces of double sided tape. they glide enormously well but will probably kill my pad faster than the plastic ones.
who cares, my 1m ‘do it your self’ pad costs 10 bucks and can be used on both sides :stuck_out_tongue:

also have a cut up old sock over my mouse cable so it stays where i want it.
used to take the sock over my underarm just closely to the wrist for better glide when its hot. plus take the mouse cable trough the sock, going up towards my arm, over my shoulder and lap, into the side usb port of the tower.
that way the mouse cord never gets in your way again but its a hassle so it just keeps my cable in place now.

sooo as a suggestion for you:

-set your sens to at least over 40cm/360
-get a mousepad that you like, plastic or cloth, BIG!
-do some research what the currently best mouse sensor is (overclock.net i think)
-maybe switch from wasd to something more to the right of your keyboard.

i used to play on home, del, end, page down and with the surrounding keys until i got this logitech game “pad” thing that replaces your kb for left hand stuff.

(watsyurdeal) #36

I have enough room for 44 cm per 360, but that’s sooooooo slow

(Jurmabones) #37

6 sensitivity in game.

1800 dpi, no acceleration.

1000hz polling rate.

I aim using my fingers mostly with a little wrist movement. I primarily use my wrist for larger movement or quick turns and such.

I rest my elbow on my arm rest and my palms on my keyboard tray.

I forget the exact name but I have a Corsair mouse pad. It’s 352mm x 272mm and made of a somewhat smooth polymer.

(Frogteam) #38
  1. 1.7 sensitivity

  2. 3500 DPI, 1000hz Polling Rate. Using an Abyssus I got pretty cheap, it’s small, light, and doesn’t have all those unnecessary buttons, and it fits my hand great. No accel.

  3. Just wrist/fingers

  4. I rest my palm/wrist on the desk when I’m not shooting, nowhere for my elbow/arm to rest.

  5. Small Mousepad, but I’d like to try a large one at some point.

  6. Fingertip grip.

(fubar) #39
  1. 6.4
  2. 800 @ 1000hz - Zowie EC1-A
  3. Combination of both, mostly wrist, if I need to perform a 180 or otherwise extreme angles - arm.
  4. neither, i rest my forearm on my desk
  5. 1st gen razer goliathus control (all black with the tiny logo in the corner), 44cm

(Gi.Am) #40

@capriRocket No need to run in testmode all the time. Just start windows in the “forced disabled certificate driver” mode (can be enabled at the same place as safemode), before installing and you are good to go.
