So I've tried....

Ye, I got ip banned again. Quite a nuisance.

You can join mid match in brink. What the hell are you talking about?

As much as I hate CoD, I like their matchmaking. Lobbies, easy, you can invite friends, no rank restrictions, you can search ANY game mode (except for those darn 3rd person views) and instantly get put into a game, and it was drop in drop out.

This is a problem on PC too.
The game doesn’t let you switch teams right away if the other loses 2 or more players.

In some cases you can;t even switch after the map changed.
That’s when most people disconnect, and the game starts with one team down players
and I get message saying I must wait to change teams, while my team gets the upper hand on the first obj.
That’s a really big middle-finger to all the players who like to keep sh!t even and make the effort to switch.
I’ll take any human player no matter his skill level over any bot any day.

The auto join system is broken as well. (PC)
Every server I’ve ever played, joins you automatically, I’m not sure if it can be turned off.

But, here’s what happens:
Servers with bots-enabled, stack every player on one team first instead of dividing.
Servers without bots, always stack the defense when the teams are even and 1 person joins.
Coming from Splash Damage this all feels phoned-in.

It’s a minor thing compared to other persisting problems though.

It seems to discourage Side Jumping by design. It does it on Xbox. The match begins and you have to wait 5-10 seconds to switch sides. (Running the risk of not planting) Seems by design. I can think of tons of reasons why this is the case. Sportsmanship or something. Brink could add Auto Team Balancing but there would’ve been more raging from the community because people would rather play only on their friends team. And more rage quitters.

(AmishWarMachine) #45

Correct me if I’m wrong, but can’t you switch sides during the post-match cut-scene and/or while the next map is loading? (Thereby eliminating the need to wait that 5-10 seconds)

It’s only if you attempt to switch sides after a new match has begun that you have to wait?

I’ve only ever tried switching after a new map has begun, and had to wait, that’s why I ask.

No you can’t. You have to wait for the match to begin and then you can switch, but only after the match has begun. You can switch during a match. but after you just got done setting up your defense/offense its kind of like you were a spy, you know what I mean? It’s like, now you gonna go beat your own trap or something. Its awkward until the next match begins. And if you are in a party and you switch sides its awkward because you are privy to information on the opposite team. You can leave your party, but now have to hope the other guys have mics when you don’t know them. I have played Gears of War matches (Ranked Even) where the guys on my team were in a party and in co-hoots with the other team. Not fun. Its like the hustle in White Man Can’t Jump. Ever see that movie? Then you know what I mean.

The longer side switch delay was added after launch. I am 99% sure it was to address solo XP grind where you would start a Private match with only you in it and friendly fire on. Make sure it’s a map with an escort objective. Get to the escort part and buff, kill, revive, repeat on the escort over and over. When you ran out of supply pips you would then switch teams and switch back to respawn with full supplies. This now nets only about 1/2 of the XP it did before because of the team switching change.

The change came close on the heels of this being revealed on the forums, hence the reason I connect the two. But, I could be wrong.
COD is an individual game that divides 16 players into two teams so there is a deathmatch counter. If someone quits during a match, it doesn’t matter. There is little skill or teamplay necessary. You can literally hide or camp somewhere with a sniper and the match continues. People do quit games and will quit if they are losing.

We do not play games in a vacuum. Basically you don’t like Brink. Every one of your posts states that clearly. So everything has a negative spin.

Rather than a match stopping after Security Rage Quits on CC, with bots, the game continues on, allowing stronger-willed (new players) to join the fray DURING the match. Its drop in and out play (which is FUN). You can’t drop into a match IN PROGRESS in COD. Man you guys just don’t get it: BRINK is not EVER going to be COD. Once the lobby starts a match, you can’t join a match already in progress, can you?

Some other games that have bots in Multiplayer: Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, Unreal Tournament 2004, UT3, ET:QW, Frontlines: Fuel Of War, etc. All Team Based Games

BRINK is NOT like COD save for it being a FPS!
Point is so far above your head that you need the hubble to make it out

Every one of the gamed.you listed to my knowledge, ar least the food ones people…you know…play…all have real lobby and matchmaking system. So I dunno what youre getting ar with any of this pointless post, especially with the random dig at COD when that is not the topic whatsoever

You are the equivilant of a brick wall in a debate, or possibly a building material of subpar quality

(peteXnasty) #49

Wait i just noticed you said you can’t drop into an inprogress match in COD. There’s the proof you have no idea what you’re ever talking about because you can…you have always been able to. That is how COD populates games. It places you ans your party into a match in progress if possible BEFORE starting a new lobb, if there’s not an existing pregame lobby with enough slots.

you join, round ends, now youre on a clean slate

People quit games and that spot is INSTANTLY filled. Maybe once out of every hundred matches you will see the system hiccup and a team will not be filled up, but that is rectified once the round ends and the lobby is brought back up

Brink does none of this. It creates a new game and you’re lucky id a random player comes along to take a slot because when they search foe games, it simply creates another empty game for them instead of seeing you have a game with open slots. Due to some bizarre and obscure algorithm SD baked up to determine matchmaking on level and rank.

Yes I want brink to be like COD in one way: I want it to place me with other players when I hit “find game” I want it to fill lobbies before starting new lobbies. I want it to be easy to play with my friends. I want SD to stop working on stupid new outfits and instead delete and rebuild their entire myltiplayer backbone in hopes it might actually help foster a community, rather than making it up to us, the players. It isn’t MY job to do this.

I still have my copy; im waitingt to see if they ever fix these stupid mistakes they made.

(1021Nick) #50

Dude, he is a delusional fanboy. He makes himself believe that these things don’t exist in other games to make brink better for himself.

(thrill11) #51

Yeah, I hear you man. You’d have to get a party just to play with humans. Not like in COD or halo where you ALWAYS find a full room of humans no prob. I think the reviews of the game is partly to blame for the lack of BRINK players. It is what it is. I have Black ops and Reach, so due to the lack of players I might hang up BRINK untill you can find humans all over the place. It would’ve been like that right now if the game hadn’t come out way too early.
