So I've tried....

(V1cK_dB) #1

I’ve tried to play competition matches for like 3 weeks now. I literally just tried it at 6:35 pm central…no other humans to play with. I tried starting a room 10 times different maps, etc. Nobody. So I then tried standard. 3 v 2 was the best I could do…the rest bots. This has been this way for several weeks now for me. Can you blame me for being pissed at the situation?

My question is for people like wolfnemesis, horsepoo, etc. How do you justify this? I find it hard to believe that your experience is any better. Don’t tell me you join full rooms all the time. If you claim that I’d like to see a vid of you doing that because I don’t believe you. I have a couple of other friends that I embarrassingly forced to buy brink and they have the same results. I live in Chicago and my buddies live in Miami, NY, Philadelphia and Oregon. All over the place. Same result.

On that other thread I see some of you with like 200 hrs played. I have over 50. I’d have more if I could find matches with humans. I hope the majority of your hours aren’t with mostly bots.

(Oschino1907) #2

Why would you even want to play comp mode with randoms anyway?

(TruGamer97) #3

What you do is you get a bunch of friends who have the game and get into a game together and itll be much more fun to play

(V1cK_dB) #4

Dude…I just want to play. I can’t get a game going. Most of my friends don’t play this game and it’s unacceptable that I have to have people on my friends list to be able to play this damn game. That is just sad.

Also…at least comp mode is a 5v5 match. I don’t really like the 8v8 noobfest although I can’t even get a full game of that either lmao.

Community Game Nights. Making Brink friends. Its a niche game. I never claimed it wasn’t. I play full matches every night. Not making it up. Even did Stopwatch last night, but that wasn’t full, it was 8v4 or around 12-13 humans. Until we kept playing then it was 14-16 humans until we held on 3 maps in a row, then the other team left. Honestly, I come from the days of Gears of War 1 when it wasn’t listed in the top 20 xbox live and I was still playing. I friend requested every dude I think is cool. And made room.

Its always gonna be the hardcore who are left after the rest leave when games are like Gears or Brink. (not talking about the more casual Gears 2). There are not many games like Brink (You can’t argue that) team-based obj type games, so you are gonna take some lumps in terms of growing pains and player count.

Competitive was changed after a patch. Originally you only needed 3v3 or something like that for it to start. I actually made several Brink friends playing comp early on, and fooling around in the warm-up phase. haven’t played it once they reinstated Standard to 8v8.

Originally I was a fan of Advanced when the game launched: VOIP was on 8v8, and friendly fire and it was like a secret mode that was lag free. The smart players went there through word of mouth. This was in the first week. Once the lag was fixed, I started adding people to my friend’s list that play brink ( I had a lot of dead gamers on my list that I didn’t play with anymore, so made room.) Some games you have to find work-arounds.

We do it every night. If you start with 8 people in a party (which we do) you only need 8 other people on the other side, right? I did play you once, you were with Bigg and I was on the other team.

Hardcore Community. Comp is not as hard as 8v8 lvl 20s. You can get booted from comp simply for being “good” at the game, like the old days of Gears 1. So, I stopped playing it. Standard is where the real matches are in Brink currently. But it takes more team work. Capturing command posts. etc. Helps to have a good squad of friends to run with. Team-based games are always better with friends. Just like Beer.

Wow. That’s a lot of work. No wonder nobody plays this game. I almost admire how hard you work to just play matches. I don’t know if I agree about that 8v8 thing. Niche isn’t even the word for it. It’s like lunacy. I can’t hate on you for it. I hope you’re having fun. In my experience though all that work will get old. Maybe not for you but for some of the people you play with…one by one will stop going through all that just to play a match. In time even the “hardcore” will stop playing. Mark my words.

Of course SD could do their job and make this matchmaking better by making a lobby for parties but I gave up trying for that a while ago. It’s like they have NO clue about console and aren’t even trying even when console is what gave them the majority of their profits this go around. Bad business. (I play both 360 and PC btw)

Just watch this… ha ha ha ha!

This is what some folk think about 5v5 as skill. I loooooooove this dude and I am a Gears fan. Soooo awesome. At least 8v8 is more than what you’d have in your backyard or on a school bus! lol.

Best line: “You can’t play Resistance on a School Bus. But you can play it online, though.”

I think Brink and Gears are great by the way and am not hating on comp at all
Case in point: everyone has their own opinions. Often wildly different.

To be honest with the community night thread and playing I have over 70 brink players on my FR. Therefore, there’s at anywhere from 15-30+ people on when I log in. Plus 6 of my RL friends play. I get a party of 8 together and start a room by pulling host. The room fills with in 1-2 matches. I promise. I joke about SS all my full games - maybe I will start. Certainly people quit and come in/out but the rooms always fill back up.

I don’t play comp. I play standard 8v8. I like the larger team sizes.

@Wolf - I couldn’t join your Stopwatch after I D/C’d because it was full =(

(Brink Lags) #9

Wolfnemesis is a plant for Splash Damage.

He’s probably their community manager they forced to make community nights to play some sort of human vs. human game.

He’s the Iraqi Defense Minister.

Yeah, it filled up fast. Sorry. It got late fast though, and I ended up signing off at 12.

(nephandys) #11

@ Vick about all the work getting matches together and people quitting because of it. 90% of the time me or Wolf usually set up the parties so no work for anyone really.

I don’t know about Wolf, but it’s no biggie to me because it lets me play with people I know and I much prefer that over playing solo; bots or no bots.

Good games tonight by the way. Glad you joined in. Also you are welcome to use my friends list to find/make parties as well.

Nice work on Aquarium. We could’ve used you in the following match at Shipyard. We ran into a buzzsaw of 8 Res savages. Only blemish on the night.

(tangoliber) #13

I don’t see much difference in Comp/Old School/Big Teams whatever. I have fun in any mode.

But I prefer Comp/ Old School because

  1. friendly fire on
  2. no bots… teams are usually kept even with the extra guy going to the offense… In Big Teams, you get a lot of 3 humans versus 6 humans or something like that… people maybe don’t notice, or don’t care, because there are bots.
  3. can voice chat with the other team after the match

Big Teams is fun too though, cause with more teammates you have more freedom in your class choice.

All true. I agree. Standard (Big Team) allows me to play with 8 friends, which is also cool. After a few minutes, once we have started a match it starts filling up with humans on both sides. After that, we play full matches the rest of the way. When one or two drop out, a bot drops in as a place holder. But we are at the point where we have spectators in our matches waiting for their “turn” to get in to the game on either side.

(QUIK420) #15

When are they gonna get rid of Big Teams on the PS3!?!?!? Why would they leave it to fracture our lil community :frowning:

Oh and I am one of the people with a ridiculous amount of playtime in Brink and its almost all from MP. Bots make me sad on the inside so I go through chat rooms, community nights, and just random games. However, competition seems to not have too many games going since they changed it so its mostly just standard of big teams now grrrrr

Big Teams??? Big Teams isnt the problem here, its the retarded Standard mode which is default set and people accidently join often when looking for Big Teams, Standard is only 8 max human players, Big Teams is 16… LOL love how you think Big Teams is the problem but not the Advanced/Old School/Comp which tend to play almost exactly the same considering it isnt often that Advanced or Old School get more then 5v5 for long periods of time.

I wouldnt mind playing those other modes but often people dont plan them out so I am not gonna join a random match not knowing what classes or characters (body type/abilities) are needed or already there. Also when you arent playing with friends or people with mics it really just ruins the whole point of those game modes. Not saying the matches are always that way but OFTEN they are underpopulated and filled with players who didnt plan out anything ahead of time and dont have mics to plan anythign out during the game.

Big Teams gets more FULL and STEADY matches then any other game mode and often randoms join up and then end up in the chats and playing regularly. Also dont get all the whine and hate for the BOTS, they arent that bad, they can be stupid but they also shouldnt be winning the match FOR YOU and often they are much better then humans (medics and soldiers) when it comes to supporting players and keeping them in the fight. They are just filler anyway until humans join up and honestly would rather have a filled match with bots then a 2vs2 (or 3v3 or 4v4…) where the match feels totally empty, slow paced and seriously lacking any kind of class gameplay as your lucky to even have 1 of each class.

If anything they need to make it just Big Teams, Old School/Advanced and Comp, Scrap the Standard and either O.S. or Advan… Especially since they all have a stopwatch option as well.

This goes out to all those who hate Bots:

Without bots, Brink would devolve into matches with 8v1 like Gears of War matches. You need bots as placeholders in a game where teamwork is so important. Brink already crushes some people’s hopes and dreams of domination over all things FPS, and you don’t want bots? Some folk don’t realize how ignorant some of their criticisms of the game are. In other FPS games like COD/Halo it doesn’t matter if players drop out because its really just an individual game with players grouped into two teams. You are just counting kills. In a game like Gears of War or Brink, any pure team-based game, one team can completely quit out if they are badly losing. Many matches in Brink would not finish without bots as at least placeholders. I’ve been on teams in Brink as Res on CC where we gift wrapped a bow on the gate and the Security (all humans) could not blow the gate. The bots in Brink are fine. They serve a specific purpose and do it fine without doing the heavy lifting for you. You got to toe the rock, bro.

That’s why everyone goes to either Standard or Big Team. And why there are bots.

Well Im just saying to scrap Big Teams because Big Teams is what Standard was meant to be before they added Big Teams due to lag. Seems like they removed Big teams on the Xbox360 but not the PS3 for whatever reason. I agree though get rid of or combine the dif game modes so we can stop fracturing this community. Standard(big teams), old skool, and competition are where it should be.

And on the note of bots I dont find them to be the bane of my existence but I have been in many games with bots where the bot will completely fudge up a big ol W because they pick up an objective and DONT deliver it. Or when you’re playing lvl 20 hard bots and they can 180 turn and headsnipe you when you get the drop on em lol.

Excellent post! I love the bots in Brink. They are the best bots I’ve ever played against. Sure, sometimes they’re just staring off into space, but that’s just as bad as some human player camping in a corner waiting for anyone to run passed him.

Some of these Brink bots are brutal. Once again, my biggest fear is a team full of bots w/buffed Mossingtons. 1-shot me so bad I can’t even get to shoot back with my downed fire.
