So it's been a month: is patching the way to go?

I haven’t patched my server yet, and I’m still hesitating. So, I seek advice: what’s the general opinion on the patch? Feel free to offer any additional reasoning or info as you so desire.

I’d only switch your server over once you notice a drop in traffic. We kept ours at 1.01 for the longest time and still had lots of regs and new players showing up. Only reason we finally gave in was to make it compatible with the new mods.

It does give you a small bonus to fps (3+ to 6+) and ping (-8 to -12), and lowers the cpu utilization a bit. You can maybe sneak in two more clients and keep the same load on the server. Being able to turn off mine-tks helps improve the atmosphere.

So while it doesn’t have any big benefits, it also doesn’t have any big drawbacks either. So, really, I’d only update if your server traffic is falling off and you suspect the patch is the cause.

ATM we still run the with the old version, i did update 1 server to the latest version and the server did keep empty for 2 days, so i did switch it back.

Maybe im gonna setup an extra user account which will have the latest version running and i will start it up 2 see if people are ready for this version if not i can startup the old version again easily without installing everything again.

FFS PPL UPGRADE!!!

All this slowness is splitting the community (one side: the clanplayers who have all upgraded , other side: the clueless noobs that don’t even know there is a patch)

the patch + ETpro 2.05 makes ET finally close to bugfree, so there is absolutely no reason not to upgrade your server!!

This is very true - when I last checked there were 4,000 people online playing on the old version!

Everyone should definitely upgrade. There are dozens of important bug fixes for servers and clients.

for last week or so, from ASE. there is over ONE THOUSAND more servers with the 1.02 patch than without it. ( 1350 with patch / 200 who “forgot to update”). So if ya have a unpatched server ya may find it busy, as there is not a lot of them left.
