Well at least I want to try it after the patch, don’t matter with bots or players.
And BF3 is overhyped… you know what I mean when you played Medal of Honour and/or Battlefield Bad Company 2
So is there an ETA to the next patch?
pretty much yes
Regarding Brink y always “Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst”.
I really need a MP FPS to keep me busy until 11.11.2011 and beyond. Brink is sitting very comfy on my steam Game library and i hope it to be reborn from its own ashes

I’ll try if after the weapon patch as well, but I don’t see that bringing life back to the game more than for a couple days.
BF3 may be overhyped but so is just about every game being released these days. I did play BFBC2 and while I liked the idea of the game it felt a bit clunky and the guns behaved oddly and I haven’t been able to bring myself to play for much more than 60 hrs of it. All these things seem to have been fixed in BF3. I spent 41 hours playing the beta and enjoyed every minute of it despite the odd bugs and glitches. Guns feel great and have plenty of customization, selective fire and no random spread when ADS. Movement is a lot better than BFBC2 and feels really smooth. Sure there is no wall jumping or any of the other fun things you can do in brink but for the type of game it does the job.
Variety of game modes and maps so you can play what your in the mood for, infantry or vehicles, objective orientated games like rush or the glorified deathmatch that is conquest or actual tdm. There isn’t much not to like unless military shooters aren’t your thing.
Once all the new FPS games finally drop, it will be interesting to see new developments coming out of other devs. The BF3 and MW3 has dominated the entire landscape and I will be glad when they finally come out and there’s room for more fresh stuff to have a chance. Hopefully, that’s when the patch will drop, after the fallout of the big 2.
Well mw3 isn’t looking too hot. Might be worth a pirated download to see the single player storyline play out but definitely not for more p2p trash which will be required for ranking up as the dedicated servers have been confirmed as being unranked. Definitely a huge step back after black ops.
Were you actually expecting anything from CoD? The only worthwhile online shooter to actually pay attention to is Red Orchestra 2 unless you’re into Bad Company 3.
Tribes: Ascend. It looks good in my opinion, and there should be a large community since it is free to play.
Also, Natural Selection 2.
I was excited about tribes until I realized they were using the unreal engine which means old school netcode and as such unplayable unless it gets south american servers for me. Also there wasn’t much information how servers are going to work at all, if it is going to be like mmo with a server cluster in one location or if there are going to be server providers and you just log into their central system to authenticate or something. Ping might not be a huge deal in mmo’s but for fps, especially one with no lag compensation in its netcode it could completely break the game.
They are also limiting the game in many ways. You can’t customized your loadouts like you used to be able to at inventory stations. It seems they are all preset loadouts. They have also reduced all armor types to 2 main weapons (used to be 3 for light, more for the heavier armors). Also, while it is f2p they intend on making profit from it through their item store which could lead to all sorts of balance issues if you choose to slowly unlock new class loadouts instead of buying them from the store.
So Tribes ascension went from being “hell yeah” (tribes1 and 2 are probably my favorite fps of all time) to “meh” once I dug up more information on it. One game that looks kind of interesting though I’m not really sure how to classify it is Fire Fall.
BF3 should keep me busy for quite some time though.

I’m a hardcore tribes fan but Ascend looks like garbage. It’s going to have payshop out of its ass. And yeah NS2 will be fun when it actually comes out. The beta has been making a lot of progress.
Check out FIREFALL. Its releasing in December. Its only PC but will have low requirements but is a completely different type of fps. Worth a look even for the non pc crowd.
Ns2 is a good example of how multiplayer fps should be made. Periodic updates highlighting key improvements and wips, open dialogue with the fans, genuine interest in feedback each new build etc. The community effort to solve the power node problem was kinda special. Devs asked fans and beta players their ideas to solve a gameplay issue and what do you know? They listened and are putting it in a new build. Very excited for ns2.
Firefall is the real new tribes. Quake 1 and Tribes players hang out in the firefall forums and geek out over some oldschool shooting mechanics Firefall offers. Those lucky enough (still talking about self identified Qauke/Tribes players) to play the demos at PAX had nothing but praise for the game. The only issue (and it’s really stupid) is that PvP will not be a gameplay mode at launch.
I agree. I LOVE the NS2 model.
I watched some PvP play of Firefall and it didn’t look that fun to me…maybe because there was so much 3rd person control. Also, there is a fair amount of spread. Maybe Tribes will have a lot of spread too with its hitscan weapons…I dont know. I like spread bloom for the burst firing, but I think that the accuracy should always be exact for the first couple of bullets.
Also, I like the Tribes Ascend loadout system, and I’m glad to see there isn’t loadout customization. I talked about this more in the BF3 topic, but basically, I think it makes class balancing more interesting since you can combine strong abilities with weak weapons, or strong weapons with weak abilities.
