So I been gone for 3 days and boy we need to help the clueless understand.

First off I’d like to say, WOW Splash Damage I am so proud of you guys, great job, I just got back from South Carolina cornering one of my good friends and training partners in his 4th amateur MMA match and had no access to a computer and let me tell you, how great it is to be home and get all this new news.

First off the first thing I’ve notice as I read the forum post here, the two blogs and the Brink website forum is a bunch of people think that the DLC that will be free for two weeks will require players who have downloaded the DLC within that time to then pay after two weeks like you would for a trial. My question is why aren’t you intelligent people going around to the different forums and clarifying this, some of these people although not that intelligent are probably valuable players and may rage quit due to this misunderstanding.

So let me make it clear for everyone. IF YOU DOWNLOAD THE DLC WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF ITS RELEASE, YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS DLC!!!

I hope you guys will help pass on this information.

(Jamieson) #2

I think you missed the point. We get it, totally 100%, I understand it completely. The problem though is that anyone after the 2 weeks is up WILL HAVE to pay for the DLC and that is what the problem is. Anyone with half a brain knows that the 2 maps in the DLC and the level cap being raised to lvl 24 is going to result in a split community. So thats the problem and why people including myself are so pissed off right now.

(morguen87) #3

No, you don’t know, as the DLC hasn’t been released yet. Untwist your panties and you can wait to tell everyone in your little world “I told you so” in a couple months. Until then, just chill.

(Jamieson) #4

What is there not to know? What part of “Free for 2 weeks” does not equal once the 2 weeks are up anyone after that will have to pay? Yes I get that the DLC will be free for ever for anyone who downloads it in the 2 weeks but it wont be for anyone afterwards. NO I wont chill out over this, people have a right to be angry and SD should know people are pissed off.

I care a lot about this community and its dying… 900peak today on steam stats on the weekend and now we have DLC splitting the community, yeah course I am going to be pissed off. What makes matters worse is TF2 going F2P so the whole argument that the TF2 DLC model does not work is a load of rubbish.

(Mustang) #5

The other four DLC related threads on the first page weren’t enough?

If the strength of the community is in your best interest how does spamming every thread with “OH GOD YOU’RE TEARING THE COMMUNITY APART!” help keep the community intact? There are a lot of people who read this forum that aren’t familiar with the game or the community or maybe on the fence about buying it and you’re only alienating them and pushing them away from the game by ranting about consequences of the DLC when it hasn’t even been released yet.

Encourage people to come back to the game by telling them about the 2 week window and we will have a stronger community

(riptide) #7

Make current player base happy=current player base brings more customers. I’d say it’s in their best interests to address all major community issues.

(morguen87) #8

And they’re not trying to make the current player base happy by adressing problems, releasing patches, updates, and giving us a free dlc?

(riptide) #9

if the dlc will split the community down the road then no they aren’t making me happy. get it?

(Jamieson) #10

Perhpas because posting on the developers official forums is one of the most direct ways to give feedback and that as a result of what you just said it pressures them to reconsider their decisions?

Seriously you think people are just going to sit by and let the developers make stupid decisions about the game and no one is going to say a bad word about it?

As a member of the community I see it as part of my duty to give feedback on what is good and what is bad. I have made it known that I think DLC that splits the community is a bad thing, especially when dealing with maps and player abilities. An alternative which I think is much better would be for SD to go down the DLC route similar to TF2 in which people purchases outfits and attachements etc rather than maps or abilities.

Perhaps you would rather people just sit by, put our heads in the sand and then wonder why there is no community in 6 months…

(morguen87) #11

My point is that coming to hypothetical conclusions and spreading them as facts when the DLC isn’t even released yet is doing the exact opposite of your community crusader goal.

Feeback is good! But feedback regarding things that haven’t been released yet is bad.

(riptide) #13

It is a fact. Player A has map XYZ but Player B does not have map XYZ. Then the server rotates to map XYZ which results in Player B getting kicked they are now split. See what a little logic can do for you?

These crusades that you speak of are the only thing that may stop that from happening.

The DLC is free for 2 weeks, that gives anyone who currently owns Brink ample time to download it. If the community picks up as a result (old players coming back to the games), a DLC isn’t going to break the community. I can’t say the DLC is going to fix the game because I haven’t played it yet, but I’m also not going to say the DLC is going to destroy the community. The fact is, until the DLC is released, we don’t know what it’s going to do to the community. We don’t even know the price of the DLC yet for people who get into the game later.

Thats exactly the point. We are not speculating here we know the facts its on the god damn blog clear as day “free for 2 weeks” which means that it will be exactly the opposite of that afterwards i.e. very much not free.

(bastuden) #16

Split community? Are you serious my friend, how hard would it be for people to simply just download the DLC in the first two week! Your argument make no sense at all

(Jamieson) #17

Well actually it makes a lot of sense if you just use some foresight. What about those new players we want to attract in 6 months time say around Christmas? Will they be able to download the DLC for free? No they wont, no one who does not download it in the 2 weeks will be able to get it for Free so yes it is a big problem considering how small the community is at the moment.

(noupperlobeman) #18

I care a lot about this community and in my opinion its dying… 900peak today on steam (a program that only records players on the computer, and not any other platform) stats on the weekend and now we have the possibility of a DLC splitting the community, yeah course I am going to be pissed off. What makes matters worse is TF2 going F2P so the whole argument that the TF2 DLC model does not work is a load of crap.[/QUOTE]

Fixed.

Oh, and this:

No, you don’t know, as the DLC hasn’t been released yet. Untwist your panties and you can wait to tell everyone in your little world “I told you so” in a couple months. Until then, just chill.

(TragHIP) #19

I agree. You know it just seems like nobody is happy EVER about anything LOL. So people are complaining that its not free after 2 weeks - is it really that big of deal? Worried about the community… well its been my experince that it would still split the communinty even if it was free forever. Why do I say that? Because Capcom released maps for Lost Planet at no charge and there were still people that did not take the time to download free maps. Why? Lazy, stupid, who knows.

It is not a fact, it is speculation. Your player A and player B live in the future right? This is what you are talking about? Things happening in the future?

Your whole argument is based on ignorant speculation. You don’t know what is going to happen. So just chill and save your complaints for when there actually is something for you to complain about. Saturating the forum with crybaby threads isn’t helping the community get bigger or better. People with short attention spans are going to take one look at the front page of this forum and walk away because of all the crybaby nonsense.

Walk on homeboy. Your argument is broken until it happens. And so help me god if you pull some “wait and see” analogy out of your butt…
