So... How to counter Fletcher

(SweetGenocide) #1

It’s not like i hate Fletcher or something but sometimes fighting against him is pretty annoying, hes stickies meh have balanced damage and he haves an sniper shotgun but i really dont mind.

The only way i counter him is when he retreats i never follow him (Sniff sugestion)
And i always run straight to him and hip fire when running straight to him.

I personally play a lot of Aimee,Kira and Sparks recently soooo, some tips of countering him with these mercs?

I think killing him is a good counter

(ClemClem7) #3

Pray that the player is bad, if he can stick you, you just can’t counter. A good Fletcher can throw his sticky and it will stick to you at the moment you go out of cover. And at this moment, you already dead, or close to death if he doesn’t have lock on.
Shooting from long range can be an advice but in many cases, you just can’t shoot at him before he’s too close to kill you.
I played sparks and proxy a lot few weeks ago, and the nerf make him less spamy but good players can kill you with a single sticky without being possible to counter anyway.
Best way to counter Fletcher is an other Fletcher better than him. It’s why my most played engineer merc since last few weeks is now Fletcher rather than proxy. He’s over both proxy and bushy.
Just pick a heavier merc or pray.

If you have long range weapons, then keep your distance. Or get super close to him, oddly enough getting up close in his face from an unexpected angle works well against him.

(inscrutableShow) #5

As Aimee and Sparks, try to engage at long range, but if he gets close, well, umm, try to run, but you’re probably dead. Pretty much same with Kira, but try to kill him with the pillar of fire.

There’s a very simple way to make a fight against Fletcher easier : you must keep your distances. This is especially true against a shotgun Fletcher. If you stay at least at mid range, you’ll be much more comfortable about dodging stickies. Missing a stickybomb in duels can be very punishing for a Fletcher. Actually, duelling with your sticky bombs out is a bad idea in general.

You can adapt the same strategy aginst Blishlok Fletchers, though those will be harder to fight at mid range due to the fact that they are actually using a weapon that does not shoot cotton candy past five meters. However, it’s less dangerous to flank a Blishlok Fletcher than a Shotgun Fletcher.

(Szakalot) #7

pretty much what people said already, generally speaking its very hard to push fletcher as he can spam corners and abuse you this way.

best thing to do is to try to stay as far away from corners as possible and bait out stickies. If fletcher has to come to you he will be lot less effective. or bumrush him if he is at point blank, though that can be risky against shotgun fletchers.

For once a Phantom on your team could be useful.

 1. stay away from walls . he could throw a sticky missing you but it fall in a wall and he touch you
 2. dont aim for the head too much especially if you are a low health try to shoot between the head and chest so when he throw a sticky in mid fight you can insta explode it on him
 3. stay in mid fight his sitckies can be thrown in a big distance and he have shotgun been too close to him could be dangerous
 4. if he have a shotgun keep moving and stay away with some chance he would have bad aim and he would need to use his stickies/secondary to keep fighting or he would retreat since his primary is out off ammo and need time to reffil

(BananaSlug) #11

the best thing to do is running away!.. not really  just try to make some distance between you and Fletcher

if Fletcher has blishlok you are ok on distance, if he has shotgun, you are safe

(frostyvampire) #12

There is only one way to defeat Fletcher and it’s…
Be Fletcher yourself
(Herr_Hanz) #13

its simple. 360 noscope headshot. that is the only way.

ddos him until he leaves the lobby
there is no other way

High health Mercs: a good Rhino counters him HARD!

on other mercs at closer ranges sprint towards him when he has stickies out, seriously! he has to deal with you being right up in his face and if he stuck you he has to suffer the damage from his own sticky. so many times I’ve gotten fletcher to kill themselves doing this.

at far ranges back away and strafe

The best way to counter ANY merc who you think is going to throw an explosive at you (be it Stoker, Fletcher, Nader, or Fragger) is to make sure that you’re not making yourself an easy target to predict.

If they see you in one location (let’s say, on a health station), and they move back out of sight, you want to move positions slightly to avoid getting hit by their explosives.

At the same time, if it’s a Nader or Fletcher, you want to be CONSTANTLY prepared for their follow up nades/stickies - make sure that you’re not JUST strafing while shooting back - try to time sprint jumps left and right at the same time as they throw/fire their nades. It’s a bit tricky to do, but remember that if they’re firing nades at you and they’re MISSING, and you’re only getting a couple or so bullets into them between each dodge, you’re still outdamaging them.

The problem is that this strategy tends to only work in a 1v1 scenario - if they have teammates backing them up by shooting you while you’re trying to dodge and slowly whittle down the nader/fletcher’s health while they miss all their nades, you’re GOING to either get killed by the nades/stickies or by the teammates’ bullets. In THIS situation it’s only really possible to win if you have teammates to back YOU up to even the odds, so you want to rely on your nearby teammates or retreat until you DO have some teammates near you.

Also, if it’s a Fletcher/Nader, you best option is often range (if you have an Assault Rifle, Burst Rifle, LMG, Semi-Auto Rifle or Sniper). Their nades/stickies are sub-par at medium range (since you have time to dodge each barrage) and they’re pretty much useless at long range (since they just can’t reach you with their arcs), so they’ll revert to using their guns. On Fletcher, he will either be forced to try and snipe you with his Blishlok (which is good, but not as good as the weapons I mentioned at the start of this paragraph) or he’ll be completely stumped because he has a shotgun. On Nader, she’ll be using an SMG, which will also be outdamaged by the weapons mentioned at the start of this paragraph. That’s why range often beats these guys.

Hope that helped

No. Rhino does NOT counter Fletcher or Nader - they’re his greatest WEAKNESS. He can’t dodge their explosives, and he’s useless at medium range where they are both NOT useless. He’s also a massive target, which makes him EXTREMELY easy to score direct hits with for the MGL and Sticky Bombs. Plus, even if a Nader DOES come into close range where Rhino is strongest, her Martyrdom will kill him before he can get away - I’ve seen good Nader players just rambo at Rhinos and basically get into a situation where, whatever happens to the Nader, the Rhino will die.

I would say the best mercs against Fletcher and Nader are just standard mercs. Fletcher and Nader don’t really have a SERIOUS weakness, but they aren’t difficult to counter as long as you aren’t choosing the WRONG mercs. I would say just avoid using Rhino (for the reasons above), Sawbonez (because he needs to avoid damage to heal, and being slightly touched by nades/stickies will keep interrupting this and force him to fight on low health), Aura (if you’re refusing to move from your health station), or Proxy (who needs to get close to do well, and trying to push up on mercs who have explosives really doesn’t work well).

Best mercs ro counter Fletcher and Nader are mercs with 90Hp+unshakeable or 100+Hp mercs. If they can’t one shot you, you have a little advantage.
Except rhino, all other 100+ Hp merc have long range weapons which can down a Fletcher quite easily. But if the Fletcher is good enough, you just fight with a -100Hp since the beginning of the fight. So he’ll have the advantage on you. Avoid close range with anhuld’s Fletcher too.

Small precision : Fletcher’s stickies can one shot a 100 hp merc, though it requires a direct hit. You might need unshakeable for those 100 hp mercs too.
