"Snow" all over my screen

After running ET for about a month, I started getting a problem with “snow” on my display. No, I don’t only get it on the snow maps. This is all the time. It’s worse with brighter colored maps. I’ve tried playing around with the settings, but it doesn’t seem to fix the problem. This is the only game that I have this problem. I have a GeForce 3 with the latest nVidia drivers. Any thoughts?

I’ve often seen overheating and/or overclocked video cards give this effect. Pehaps you video card cooler is clogged with dust.

Yea… I noticed that happening when I tried overclocking my Geforce 4… too much heat and stuff started to get really weird “snowy” effects.

I’d check to see what your graphical settings are and check to see if there’s any dust on the card itself… basically everything SCDS_reyalP said… heheh.

with the power off, take the case door/side off. take a flashlight and have a look on the video card, if the heatsink or fan looks clogged with dust blow/clean it off. Leave the side off and boot up that way, watching to check the graphics card fan spins. With the side still off, run some games or video card benchmarks and see if its ok. If it is still bad, I’d hazard a guess your card is dying on you, or some unrelated problem anyway. If its better, replace the side door and test it again. If its still better, its better; if its bad a again then have a look at youre case fans/ventilation.

Other things to look at -
drivers, card inserted properly…

So far, I’ve tried cleaning out the PC. There was a little dust in the video card fan. This didn’t fix the problem. I haven’t tried running with the case open, so I can try that next. However, ET is the ONLY game that gives me this problem. I’ve run other 3D/Hardware accelerated games without this problem. Note that I didn’t overclock the card.

Try re-inserting the card as well. It helped me when stuff kept freezing a while back. Took the card out, put it back in and no problems ever again.

It seems that my card must be going bad. The problem isn’t getting any better AND I just tested it with another 3d game. Same problem. I didn’t notice it before with the other game, so it must be my card crapping out. AAARGH! Oh well. Thanks for the recommendations. Guess I’ll see how much worse it gets before I am forced to get a new card. Maybe my wife will let me build a new system!!
