sniping suggestion

(damocles) #1

There’s a lot of ill-feeling regarding the now weakened sniping. I agree with this and wish for the one-shot kill headshots to return.

However, I guess the reason it was removed in the first place was to help balance it and stop snipers ruling the maps. So here’s my idea for a balanced option:

Headshots do kill instantly. Body shots stay as weak as they are now (three to four body shots per kill). The sway and innacuracy should remain. However, in order to balance the power, there needs to be a way of knowing you’re being sniped. I think if the sniper misses, then the target should get a sound effect of some form, such as the whistle of a bullet flying past your ear. This at least gives the target the option of finding cover or staying and chancing it. And it also will tempt the sniper not to snipe on impulse but instead to wait for the accuracy bar to drop and then pick off stationery targets with headshots. The whistle sound would need to be very distinctive though, so as to stand out from the regular bullet fire of war. A good loud high pitched whistle, very localised so only people within a few feet of the target could hear it.

That’s my idea anyway…

that’s already a reality.

It’s all-ready like it.

Also, snipers are a totally diffrent breed, both in real-life and in the game, as say a FldOps. You can tell the diffrence between an expirenced sniper and a amature buy they way the aim, and find hiding spots. I say that snipers should be able to jump higher, and be able to aim over their shoulder. I have rearly seen a map where snipers ruled it. I have played all maps in RTCW, and never have I seen snipers owning it.

AFAIK you don’t get a whistle when a sniper misses, only a hit effect if the sniper strikes the ground near you. That’s not the same thing at all. Apart from the fact that if the sniper doesn’t hit anything near you, you won’t know you’re being sniped, there’s the fact that there are hundreds of bullets flying around anyway, so it’s just another hit amongst many. It needs a distinctive sniper bullet whistle.

I agree with damocles. Headshots should kill in one hit anythnig else shoudl do little damage. It is pretty hard to hit a moving target with a sniper in RTCW so anyone who stands still long enough deserve to be shot. And the solution to snipers owning maps should not be to make them useless.

Field Ops airstrike attack seems a bit too powerfull when they are used together with other airstrikes but I do not propose they make airstrike do very little damage. Maybe limiting the number of airstrikes each player can use before he dies(like ammo for airstrikes) would be a better solution

Fretn, truly I have not.

What I usually see is snipers covering places there are a lot of guys, and then they pick one and kill. I have never seen snipers own at Happy Penguin, HP II, most other maps. The only map I’ve ever seen where snipers played a MAJOR role is in Airstrip.

das_bismark, HP servers are not typical servers. in fact many people refer to them as noob servers.

fwiw snipers play a huge role in mp_beach and mp_assault. and anyone whos played with me knows i’m pretty good with the mauser. :fiesta:

fact is with the nerfed garand/k43 in et, you are no longer rewarded for good aim. you’re going to kill in 2-3 shots regardless if you aim for the head or not, so why not just aim for the body always? youll get the same result without having to aim as precisely. ive pretty much given up trying for headshots on et. you see their helmet fly off, but you need 1-2 more shots to kill? gah.

this is not a fun weapon anymore

Bani,

Yes, I know some people say HP servers call them n00b servers, but, great target practice, and it teaches you how to survive, due to the fact there are so many players.

Snipers due play a large role in both those maps, but I have never seen them owned by snipers, due to the fact that the last half of the game is primarily inside the bunker, and unless you snipe from the top of the exterior ladder, your options are pretty bare.

Assault is a great map, but what I’ve seen here is it becomes a sniper war, and everyone else, FOR THE MOST PART, go about their business.

I could not agree with you more. Also, Fuel Dump isn’t the greatest sniper map to begin with, until the Allies are besieging the dump, and by that time, artillery is the main function.

Fuel dump is a great sniper map. If you know where to snipe from and what to expect from the enemy. Myself and a friend often both go COps when playing as Axis and together we can obliterate the opposition. One watches the footbridge while the other watches the main bridge. If we threw in one more good sniper into the mix, the allies would be crying themselves to sleep. Even with the nerfed sniper rifles, it’s possible to be an effective sniper, you just need to get out of the habit of lining up. I use the sniper rifle like a regular rifle, just point and click.

Yes you could, but I was a RTCW bred sniper. I have spent 12 and 15 hour games with nothing but a mauser, in total sniper fests. Anyhow, Mauser vs ET Rifles, Mauser would Ownz. I still snipe for the most part with the Mauser in normal RTCW, since there will be a LAN party this and next weekend.
