Seriously…especially with all of these new players running around…not fun especially when they’re being assholes and you ask them to play something else and they go “wah wah wah” over voice chat and they end up with half the score of anyone else in the match.

Honestly I don’t think snipers have a place in this game at all. It’s just my opinion of course, but I feel that they just don’t fit in with the pacing of DB.
With all the fast gunfights and trickjumps, being instantly killed from someone camping across the map just feels out of place.
I have a lot of fun fighting most mercs. Meleeing a nader, trying to gun down a rhino as aura, etc, but I’ve never seen a match that was actually improved by having a sniper on either team, whether they’re good or just another noob. It’s not something I’d think “damn, I wish we had a vassili” about, and I don’t really see why the devs decided to add snipers to this game, let alone three of them.
I might be a dick, but I usually go out of my way to kill snipers moreso than anyone else. I just want to encourage them to play someone else, lol.
TL;DR, it’s not a question of skill. Good or bad, snipers don’t really benefit this game at all imo.

Summarized exactly how I feel. Whether they’re good (they usually aren’t) or bad is irrelevant. Granted, a great sniper can effectively cut off an entire lane of the map from afar, but there are very few circumstances, if any, where I think that amount of skill would be best used sniping. Imagine if that god-tier sniper switched to another marksman like Arty with a dreiss while still filling an objective role and supporting the team? Enough said. If SD insisted on having snipers in this game, I’d much rather have seen more weapons like the grandeur and dreiss. Maybe a shorter range bolt or lever action rifle, an extremely accurate revolver that packs a punch in close quarters, a slug shotgun, a crossbow that delivers an explosive, incendiary, or EMP pulse. Anything. All my opinion as well, of course. Conventional snipers feel out of place and disrupt the flow of the game in my book. Is it a big deal? Nope, but I do find it annoying.

So? Just cause other games have them doesn’t mean DB should. I mean, if anything that’s just incentive not to include them. Make DB different, attractive to people who want a change, or just don’t like snipers.
And of course snipers can be helpful, in a way. Of course objectives are more helpful, but there’s no denying killing can be too. But how many snipers do you think there are, compared to the number of snipers who can actually impact the game? I have over 1,000 hours in this game, and the vast majority of snipers I’ve seen have been absolutely terrible. New players who pick up vassili on freerotation, someone who can’t figure out DB’s actual gameplay, so they just sit at the back and occasionally bodyshot people to death. I’ve only seen about 30 or 40 snipers who have made a positive impact in DB, the rest have all been a waste of a merc slot. Hell, some red eye players have even lost their team’s matches by placing smoke in a bad spot.
But well, even if you can do well as a sniper, you can usually do a lot more as almost any other merc. In most cases it’s not so much that snipers are great, it’s that the people playing those mercs are great, and they’d get a similar score as anyone they chose to play.
DB is not a combat oriented game. Sitting back in one spot shooting at a random rhino’s foot is not an accurate representation of how DB is played, and it will not help new players ease into other classes. Not only does that waste a teammate slot, but it also gives the player a poor representation of the game. As I said in my other post, snipers are out of place in DB, they don’t really fit into anything about this game, and all they make new players who play them think, is “Why am I not topscoring!? I’m getting the most kills! I’m the best sniper! This game sucks”

Boring to fight something that is one shot hitscan, no cooldown, 24/7 spotting. Best hope you have your own recon or you’re at a massive disadvantage. Abilities have cooldowns and are generally inhibited by travel times, snipers get to know where you are and can dunk you before you have time to react.

now that you mention it, why not rework bolt snipers into projectile?
it does work in BF4 but its because of the size of the map.

I mean, wouldn’t you concede they usually aren’t contributing much? At least compared to most mercs. I’ve played with you a few times (assuming you use the same name) and can tell you’re easily one of the best Aimee players I’ve come across so this is no slight directed at you personally. That said, I do feel there’s more ground to stand on when arguing against snipers rather than for them in this game. It’s funny to me how it’s socially acceptable, so-to-speak, to joke and trash about Phantoms being ineffective or likely some bad player roleplaying as a ninja, but the second you question a sniper it seems everyone loses their minds and all of these godly snipers suddenly appear out of the woodworks to defend them. Outside of ranked all is good and well, of course, but in any serious competitive sense excluding a few select scenarios and positions on a few select maps, I’m going to ask them to switch.
