SMART or Strafe Jumping?

(freefall) #1

Personally I really like SMART.

However I would have prefered strafe jumping.

You know if you press the complete opposite direction of a wall you kick off (light body) then you will kick off that wall flying directly sideways and you can fire, of course. Same as strafe jumping.

(BioSnark) #3

I’ll take both with my order thx

(Bittermetal) #4

Can’t go wrong there

(kilL_888) #5

well, i start to dislike the “smart”.

people, including me, seem to confuse the smart with the parkour.

smart just lets you do everything automatically. playing more and more and get used to the environmets, i would actually prefer if there is a sprint key and a seperated smart key.

a month ago i was actually against this, but the more i play the more i recognize the little bugs that come with the full auto smart. doing all the sliding, vaulting and whatnot manually would reduce the bugs, i think.

so, i didnt vote, coze for this particular question i would say i would choose a combination of both. take the quake3 movement and add the parkour. im happy.

All about knowing when to take your finger off the smart button. You tap SMART to spint and as long as you keep moving in that direction you will continue to sprint but you wont auto SMART on anything. Higher skilled players practice with when and when not to press the SMART/Sprint button.

I use both. Its like peanut butter & jelly.

With regards the separate SMART and sprint keys I would like it if SMART didn’t keep deciding what I want to do and getting it completely wrong
Meaning it should be:
Shift = Sprint (no more auto-SMART engaging nonsense, let me just run into obstacles)
Shift+Space = Jump and then SMART over the thing I jumped at until Shift is released (in which case stop mantle) or the obstacle has been mounted (in which case disengage SMART and return to regular sprinting)
Shift+C = Slide
Shift Down+Shift Up+C = Stop sprinting and crouch (instead of momentum carrying me into a slide)
Shift+R (with spring reload ability) = Reload (no more cancelling reload to SMART over something I didn’t want to climb in the first place)

EDIT: Voted SMART as it has potential so I’d like to see it’s continued development (preferably as I just outlined above)

(tangoliber) #9

From the beginning I did everything manually. Using crouch and jump to slide/mantle/wall jump is intuitive enough. But later on, I found certain jumps that could only be made by using SMART.

I think the system is great when done manually.

Again you need to know when to take your finger off SMART. You will still sprint. No need to hold SMART to sprint. you need to hold SMART to do SMART moves. Just tap it to sprint.

(Mustang) #11

Why say again?
OFC you can tap shift, which is my point, it’s broken, it shouldn’t be like that, hence I propose a solution

we’re not saying the same thing. someone needs more practice. I stated how you can run without SMART-ing on everything. No need to divide the buttons

(Mustang) #13

What are you on about? I didn’t indicate that you were saying the same thing as me
You seem to think I don’t understand the mechanic, quite the opposite in fact, I understand it fine, it’s just that it sucks
No need to insult me because I have a different opinion

that wasn’t an insult. Needing more practice is clearly evident and not an insult. Learning is fun!

(Mustang) #15

Well I feel insulted by the virtue of the inherent superiority of your comments, and that’s my prerogative
If you feel the need to persist in telling me that I evidently need more practice please take it to PM, I’d rather hear opinions on the topic(s) at hand

If you were feeling inferior, man that’s your stuff.

I am still learning too. The game keeps on giving. one of the reasons I like it. Like I said-- learning is fun.

(knippon) #17

Both and I have a suspicion that this could be possible in brink this very minute with a few unlocked cvars.

Let us do it plz SD.

(Je T´aime) #18

I voted on smart but I don´t even know whats strafe jumping : p if it requires some sort of skill movement I probably should have vote on it D :
But that would make the game even less comercial so meh

you can turn off bunnyhop friction.

(Kendle) #20

Personally I’d prefer not to use SMART at all. Having played Urban Terror seriously for a couple of years I can run / jump / strafe / slide / wall-jump / climb all with movement keys + sprint + crouch + jump, I don’t need SMART.

What’s more, as with the “do it all” F key SMART sometimes makes the wrong decisions, like making me jump over something when I wanted to jump on it, for example. I don’t need the game making decisions for me, I don’t like the game making decisions for me, an option to disable SMART would be most welcome.
