I like flash’s suggestion
Smart better than l33t in ET-shuffle teams by XP doesnt work
Its so unfortunately true, that 2 people can have that effect on a game, but for now its the reality. Its an objective based game, and people get too distracted by fighting to remember to guard the objectives.
I bound the "follow me’ key and often spam it, tryin to get people to follow me to the obj’s. I often type team_say messages for strats, pointers and generally begging them to take care of business, but it appears alot of those new to the game dont see the messages at all.
Heh, I do the exact same thing. I’ve learned that you really just end up getting yourself too frustrated when you have a team of new players who are clueless and unresponsive to your teamchats. I ended up getting really precise with the mortar as a result!
P.S. I do get a lot more response from new/inattentive players if I change the color of my teamchats to yellow. Just do a ^3 before whatever you type. I guess some people just can’t multi-task their vision or something, so you end up having to do stuff like that to get their attention. I wish we could put the banana in there! Can’t you imagine;
(Sombee^mndplG)(G,2):
Our only objective is the train! There is no reason to defend our spawn! If you see the train, hop in it!
Now I know they would have to see that!
I just had this happen: almost empty server, 2 vs 2, I’m Axis and defending the Tank in Goldrush. The other team seems to be just 2 newbies because they have no chance and often one of them will leave and onother who has just joined will take his place. Now one of the newcomer (Typhon) called a Shuffle by XP vote and it went through. Great, all XP earned during that round lost, timer reset but OK. So it’s me and Typhoon vs 2 other guys and no it turns out Typhoon is a Teamkiller! Can you belive it, iust 2 players in one team and one has nothing better to do than stabbing his comrade with a knife just after I spawned
He did it 2 times and was waiting with his knife for me a third time (I was busy telling the others via chat that he was a TK, therefore he had an easy target), this time I killed him with my MP-40 (of course he complained) and left the game :banghead:
Sometimes I get so wrapped up in play that I don’t read messages
It’s also worth bearing in mind that there’s more than a few non-English speakers playing Wolfie
I shouldn’t worry, people soon get the hang of what the objectives are. Many are so new they’re still grappling with basic controls. Enjoy the easy wins while they last, I say!
Hmmm… isn’t that the same colour as used by fireteam chats? If so, might that not be prone to causing some confusion?
Im having zee enemy for zee veekend !
now thats failure to communicate …
Sure is, Freedom, I haven’t a clue what you’re on about. Do you mean you have a tasty German gf? If so, GL & HF

I do believe that it would cause confusion, only if you were playing organized matches though. I have yet to be on a pub server in which fireteams are actually used to any effect.
Not deliberately trying to be argumentative, but: how can you tell whether others are/aren’t using fireteams?
I’ve been in some VERY good fireteams (and also, I’ll freely admit, in others where there was not very much teamwork happening).
I think that if there is a problem with fireteams, it’s that the bots (i.e. the players who are on your team but who are not in the same fireteam ;)) clearly sometimes don’t understand why some players on their team aren’t coordinating their efforts with them… (they’re blissfully unaware that I’m dashing off to support the other members of my fireteam in preference to just helping the local situation).
I fragged w/ you snowman, you’re the king of the drive-by revive. But its not a n00b friendly skill …
Yes I know I just had to point it out
Btw I don’t think XP shuffle works because it takes away all your skill levels. I couldn’t figure out why no one would vote for it. Then finally one game it passed. All my skills went bye bye.
I always play as a Medic or Engineer but two things I hate.
- You arrive to find that theres no Medic’s and only 1 engineer while theres 400 Soldiers and 300 Covt Ops*.
The engineer is being killed while trying to build the bridge and has to respawn, (the team isn’t covering him) and by then the amount they’ve built has gone.
So either you go as a Medic and revive him, but end up being slaughtered cause you get mown down by the MG42 or run out of ammo and shot. And so back to A.
Or be an engineer, and try to build the bridge with him, but you get mown down, but theres no medics to revive, so a respawn and it takes 10 mins to construct the bridge. Argh! Anger!
*Maybe a slight exageration
- I try to help n00bs, but 9 times out of 10 they be a soldier with a flamethrower. Which is horrible, cause they try it out on the teammates, or they stand there looking at the ground and flaming, or looking up at the sky and flaming away. I tell them to be a medic and be helpfull cause they can’t handle the flamethrower as they’re a n00b. Every time they’ll ignore me and continue to TK by flaming the team, which ends up I vote to kick them and they’re booted. No fun for me, OR them really. But I have no choice.
Snowman, once agian i agree with Tickler. People like you that can do it are awesome to have on your team. Im really refering to the SLLLOOOOWWW medics… YOu know… “I NEED A MEDIC!”… They grab the needle… spin around looking for you… they run toward you with the needle out in the middle of a gunfight… look down… poke once… miss… poke again … miss … medic dead and i missed teh spawn.
When I go out and play ET I like to join the loosing team and try to help them. Like a lot of people have posted before, I try to tell them what to do as the situation unfolds. It usually helps, but you gotta keep reinforcing what they are supposed to do everytime there is a lull in the action and things start to degenerate into deathmatch.
I too have run into a No Engy™ or All Spy™ team. It usually means I have to switch classes to patch the holes.
I enjoy the between game chat screen that allows sort of a “post-game” show for ripping each others egos. I also use it to tell the loosing team why they lost and what they need to do to succeed next time. I wish other games had this (like UT, and BF1942).
One note, I really dig seeing “real” experienced players talk about trying to help new/mis/unguided players instead of playing the tired old “I’m l33t!, lets rip the noobs” posts I’ve seen. They have to realize that in the end of any round, it’s not your pesonal score (frags) that matters, it’s the team that wins. Its healthy for the community, keep up the positive energy.
This is for you …
I like the ones that stand over you cycling through their weapons. When they finally pull it out they get killed. And you just missed the respawn.
And then theres the evolved ‘next weap scroll wheel’ types that just run around w/ the needle out. Im always surprised to see a medic that does that get enuff XP to get the green needle.
