Sliding crouch

(Raviolay) #1

Just as the tile suggests a sliding crouch after sprint, the slide is dependent on your overall speed & acceleration. This would make getting in to plant and defuse sites & over fallen teammates for a defib faster and more fluid. The solider class could use this also to deal a little damage. If crouch jumping was in the game also with this. You could link both moves in a string and design maps to take advantage of this.

Thoughts?

What, like Ghost Recon Future Soldier/Online where the priority is to slide into/towards cover? Or like in Brink where it could also be used as a take down melee attack?

Or both?

I could see myself using it. It may even become the new era of land surfing. Power sliding down inclines and steps.

I have always liked this idea in FPS games. But not being able to shoot while sliding is a must.
Some IMO very interesting things can be done with this, like making side passages you can only slide trough. They could even make a door you can only slide trough and give an engineer the ability to expand the opening to be able to walk trough it normally, making you less vulnerable.

I Like this :penguin:

It would add some spice to the movement. If it is considered I think limited consecutive use and not being able to shoot while sliding would be best.

(Verticae) #8

I’ll go ahead and say ‘no’. I haven’t seen a single FPS game where this didn’t involve losing a degree of control over your movement in close quarters. The up-close battles are a cornerstone of DB, and sacrificing control in them is just crazy.

(Nail) #9

secondary weapon only, but one hand shooting, you can grab some serious speed on canary wharf on the down runs

(Samurai.) #10

I also am towards the ‘no’ direction for this. These movements are usually very clumsy, offer no real benefit towards gameplay (if anything make it worse but this depends on it’s purpose in the game) and usually mess up the hitboxes to the extent that it creates more problems than benefits in my opinion. I’d rather see other more beneficial elements of the movement system worked on in regards to strafe jumping amongst others being implemented ahead of a ‘slide’ feature.

i like it. and i agree with what inf3rn0 says.

(nailzor) #12

Like quake 4? Not a fan for a team game like this.

Maybe for a dueling game like that sure along with tons of other trick jumps like shootmania.

(Strifee) #13

Would you like to slide over asphalt on your knees? No. Neither would the characters in game, thank you.

(BMXer) #14

Im not a fan of sliding in FPS games. Hitboxes are always wack when someone is sliding. Too much control is taken away when it only requires the press of a single key.

(Protekt1) #15

Not always.

I wasn’t gonna post because it would have been negative. Then I saw this and realized you guys don’t learn from your mistakes. Good luck with the game no matter how much input or suggestions we put in. You guys really want to make this a Brink 2 hybrid and I can’t see that being successful competitively. Hopefully, you guys dislodge and make this a great game until then I’ll probably be off the forums, it’s a waste of time.

So it’s just a movement skill for all the classes, the solider as well he can case a little damage in addition as he is well the solider. So it sort of sets him apart from the others.

All of this.

This as well.

I would not like being shot at also

One game that was Brink, that game bombed not because of it’s movement, but because of crummy console netcode that made the game unplayable so it got traded in shortly after purchase. There are other things as well, that is the main sticking point however.

No thanks.

After posting my last message I decided to reminisce on some old school game footage. Then I realized that SD has slaughtered everything they have tried to copy into their games.

This is what Brink should have been http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrwuver2mRI. This is where they got the idea for the SMART system. Had they incorporated it correctly into Brink it would have been revolutionary. That’s adding game depth without adding a plethora of garbage OHK weapons or spam.

This is where ET came from and what it should have been. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MmFB5dXcMc

Ultimately, this is what they did, and I expect will do with their ideas and Dirty Bomb. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2XvxDaIwCw#t=00m25s.

We’ve all tried to steer them in the right direction but they insist on making this an abomination, just like Brink. I hope you guys wake up and make me eat my words because you really are the only company who can make the game we’ve all been craving for the past 8-9 years.
