hmm its only good when it will be really smooth and not bugged, not too fast and not too slow, but i never saw a good implementation of it in any fps game, i think it fits more third person games
Sliding crouch
Urban Terror has sliding, it’s a very fast paced game, and very competitive, in fact there’s hardly any pub scene, almost everyone who plays it plays it competitively, so sliding isn’t anti - comp IMO.
I never had a problem with the idea behind parkour in Brink, only the SMART button itself and players not being in total control, and not needing to learn the skills to do it in the first place.
If SD add sliding then it should be a combination of sprint and crouch that enables it and you stop sliding the instant you take your finger off the crouch key, so the player always remains in control.
This is ridiculous, so you expected SD to release free RtCW. W:ET’s gameplay is freaking good as it is. The fact SD gave us a half product is another thing.
Well, I’m going to cast my vote for yes on the slide mechanic. Ultimately it adds extra depth to the gameplay mechanic which is generally a good thing.
I liked it in Brink and I believe it would do well here too.
And what about a summersault*?
Sliding to get behind cover could be interesting but the maps need to be made for this, when adding this ability for combat better not.
*that was a jk ofc xD

i did like it, too but what i didn’t like was that it was pretty powerful and could be exploited to easily kill heavy classes. i pretty much only played the light class and had easy times sliding into fattys and pumping a mag into them.
i think it should be just a evasion mechanic that’s on a cooldown so you don’t slide all the time. make it really situational.
mantling over things should be in every shooter imho. what does it mean anyways? it adds a animation, making it look and feel smoother when you try to get over obstacles. the simple jump that used to be in pretty much every shooter since quake 1 just feels dated. but… the big cod and battlefield actually use this mechanic and just from the looks of it in battlefield 3, it must feel pretty awsome to mantle over an obstacle, instead of just hitting jump and getting over it.
I’d love a Mirror’s Edge crossed with RTCW. DB isn’t that game tho - no slide for me.
No, it takes away your control and makes your movement predictable, not to mention that it doesnt even work well in BF3.
I would see a soft type of sliding not necessary been show from your view (legs movements)
But another person could see your sliding animation …which is cool to watch
If a char could firing while sliding would be nice .

no please dont add sliding or mantling as someone mentioned above[/QUOTE]
If its anything like BRINK I say no. Was different and fun to try… at first. Just took away from good close range firefights. Players sliding everywhere.
rules for suggestions…
if its too like brink - na way
if its too like cod/bf - f**k off
if its too like ET/RTCW/QWET - stop trying to remake an old game
How about we stop worrying how other games have done it and just talk about the suggestion on its merits. After all, a video game isn’t just a patchwork of code/moves/ideas taken from other games. Great games really make things their own and not just for uniqueness’ sake.
The key things what I did not like about Brink’s parkour movement were, that you could do it by holding a single key or button. You had your weapon out while you did it. Also the general game speed/ movement speed was slow even with the light body type, parkour should of been class specific. Oh the maps did not make any real use of it, or make it rewarding. So you have to get good at it to access hard to reach places on the map and do it fast.
Oh thanks to kendle I will be checking that game out.
Some good feedback here. Thanks folks.
To those who said no without further comment, are there any particular reasons why? Or covered already by concerns so far about lack of control, reduced CQC quality and Brinkophobia?
