slide to finish off downed enemies? POLL

(Smoochy) #1

does anyone else find that its often a bit unreliable to kill downed enemies by melee?

what i mean is if you shoot someone and kill them you run over and try to melee them but it often fails, meaning they can use downed fire and kill you. i often stand right above them and it either doesnt melee or it does but seems to miss them

would be it cool to sliding melee them? i mean just run and slide at them to kill them? surely a boot to the face is just as bad as a rifle stock, especially if you are already incap?

I find the takedown strike to be pretty reliable personally. Allowing the slide to instant gib would be pretty unfair considering how easy it is to perform.

I think it works similar to the F key syndrome, even though the aim is loose, I think there’s an invisible lockon required before it will connect. Sliding would be cool to take people out, especially those who are trying to self-revive or are using downed fire.

Slightly OT: I’d like a more audible feedback that my melee connected, there’s something satisfying about the loud crunch sound you get when meleeing someone in the Halo games.

(nephandys) #4

Yes, yes, yes, a million times yes. The melee to gib is so unreliable. I have to be like positioned in the exact right spot over the body or only the regular melee happens and it doesn’t connect.

(tangoliber) #5

Maybe only if you have the bayonet equipped.

I dislike how the melee doesn’t always connect, but just being able to slide to take someone out would go too far in the other direction.

(Loffy) #6

…a more audible feedback that my melee connected…

Agree. Sometimes I’m just “Did it happen or not?”

While I can understand the frustration, I think slide-finishing would be OP.

Maybe remove the melee finisher and allow melee strikes to OS downed opponents. Might screw up balance though, because lights (fast speed + slide + fast knife strike) would be able to destroy entire groups too easily… UNLESS, heavies are immune to knockdown (get knocked back instead, without falling over ?).

But I feel you… how many times my melee finisher didn’t connect even though I was completely facing the downed enemy, and close enough. Then proceeded to be Cortex Bomb’d, Downed Fire’d, etc… then proceeded to shake fist and throw curses on this locking mechanism that always stab you in the back in the most crucial moments.

I love the idea of having to go up and melee the downed players or waste way too much bullets on them. But damn the mechanic is clunky as hell. It’s not like a melee hit in QW at all. Another console artefact I guess.

I find that it usually takes 2 or 3 melee hits to finish off a downed enemy (not missing because I can here the hit sounds). I think a sliding gib would be a great mechanic to introduce to Brink.

anyone else find with people with downed fire you kill them then go to melee, it fails once and you die. so annoying.

can people say what platform they are on? i wonder if consoles have better detection than PC?

im not talking about people who are just knocked over. im talking about when you kill them (and they are incap on the floor)

It’s definitely just as bad on 360. It seems like unless you aim exactly right it will just do the regular melee animation and not dmg the enemy. When it works it’s supposed to be OS melee kill to a gibbed person, but I don’t use this tactic very much due to the unreliability that inevitably leads to death by DF or cortex.

My favorite though is to melee a medic as they self rez or anyone else who is coming up as this is easier to pull off (the area you need to aim or w/e doesn’t seem as small/specific) and is still a OS kill.

Something like this? (NSFW, naughty language)

(neg0ne) #14

yes.

i think its an imrovement to be able to take out an enemy that has been shot down and is incaped.

a compromise would be:

If you slide into and incap enemy his “Downed fire” doesn´t work anymore cos you kicked away his gun with the slide.
then its not that big problem to need two melees to finish him off.

Ooo, I like this idea.

it’s not friday yet, AWM.

(Runeforce) #17

This is a bad idea. It takes a couple of seconds for the downed-fire to come up, oceans of time to gib (even without slide-gibbing)…if you don’t want to waste your bullets or can’t hit me 6 inches away…then you derserve to die by my downed fire!

(Jimmy James) #18

Is that from Friday? Good stuff!

Reminds me of the DOOM sound pack that replaced everything with sound bites from Army of Darkness (there was a Simpsons one too I believe).

EDIT:

While I tend to agree with this opinion I still think adding more options to deal with Downed Fire would be cool.

Yes, there was. and a Beavis and Butthead one as well.

How about no.
