since "fastpath" mode, server disappear after some maps

Hello

I run from home a W:ET server since 2 years, without big problems.

But now, I have one I can not resolve :

I’ve changed my router, and this one permits the mode “fastpath” : in this mode, lantency times are reduced, because in this mode, there is no more correction on lost packets or other error on your line. This mode can be enabled when you have a line with a low attenuation, because then, errors can freeze the TV, or cut your internet line, or make noises when you use the ADSL phone line.

Of course I’ve tried this option  : personaly, ping response to a server reference went from 66ms to 13ms !!! And on my server, peope having before 100ms just have now 50ms. But the problem is this one:

when server empty or just 2 players, OK it appears in SERVER-LIST and stay all day long, but suddenly disappears from it if much more players (8-10 for example) are on. If people disconnect, server re-appears in the SERVERLIST.
Has anyone already heard such a problem, or coud people from “etmaster.idsoftware.com” help me ?

Thanks in advance.

mhmm, afaik fastpath is when the error correction is being shutoff.
Are you 100 % sure your ADSL provider supports your account to use fastpath ?

Here where i live you have to order it separate.

(Locally should be no problem but if your provider does not support it this mayb be the problem…)

Hallo Dutchman

Yes, it is supported by my provider, and is made through their web-interface (I did not modify “manually” the router).

Yesterday, I’ve noticed my server has disappeared from the list after a moment even with 2 players on it …
really disappointed. How could I reach “etmaster.idsoftware.com” specialists (to ask them if they can track what packets comes from my IP) ?

Bye all

Really never heard of this problem tbh. But you run 2.60 ? Wich mod ? (;Maybe try contact mod site if you run a mod…)
Maybe copy your config…or ehm…
afaik fastpath drops the error correction so losing some packets seems logical to me but i may be wrong.
And ehm, is it really needed you run fastpath ? ping up to 50-90 is ok for online play imho…

I think your Ethernet line is too unreliable to safely use this “fastpath” setting. You’ll really have to choose between speed or reliability.

To give a (rather stupid) examle: suppose you have two waiters in a restaurant. One of the two moves about cautiously but always gets what you wanted. The other one can get your order in less time, but he happens to sometimes drop a plate, crash into a table or bring you the wrong order. Which one you’d choose?

Anyway, I’d turn it off.

Hello

Thanks for your advices - my choice is done :

 I keep my “fastpath” line (and so get a very good ping for me)
:frowning: I stop my server for ever
 But I help a mate of the team in constructing-one, he can profit of my experience, and his line is not an ADSL one, it is a CABLE one (with much more upload and less latence)

So the DIABOLIK adventure can continue
