simple server question

(Stick-Boy) #1

I wish to set up a simple server, over the net, for a few friends. However, they end up trying to download the 300,000 .pk3 files that I’ve accumulated over the weeks. They should only have to download my custom .pk3 and the maps I’m running. Do I have to move/delete the .pk3’s they don’t need. Or am I doing something n00bish? :banghead:

P.S. great game

You can set sv_pure to 0 to prevent this.

Any pk3 files found in your etmain folder (or whatever gametype you’re running) are parsed on startup and considered necessary for any clients connecting to a server you are hosting. You can disable sv_pure, or just move the pk3s to a seperate folder when you want to host a session. You could even just delete the pk3s altogether. Most of them are custom campaign setups, and those are small enough you won’t even notice if you have to download them again.
