Silly Ability Repository (Ability Concept Megathread)

Ever came up with a spur of the moment idea for a merc and decided that it was a good idea with only a moment’s thought, only to realize after 5 minutes of thinking about the ability that it’s useless/OP/UP/makes no damn sense/impractical/stupid/etc.?

I have. Roller skate exoskeletons, magnet grenades, mech suits, knockback rounds, explosive rifles, climbing ropes, and trampolines, for christ’s sake! Silly ideas that never met the light of day in this subforum.

So, today, with this thought in mind and the prospect of not much happening at all in this subforum at the moment (remember Pengi: one merc idea at a time…), I decided to make this thread, dedicated to showcasing and getting feedback on all of those weird ability and merc ideas collecting dust in your brain.

So, post whatever the hell you want, whether it be a simple 'nade type thingie, a joke idea that SD would never actually add, or some super complicated ability to “beta test” before making your actual Mercenary Suggestion thread, put it down right below.

One rule though- respect everybody’s ideas and don’t diss somebody for contributing a merc that tosses slippery banana peels everywhere.

With that in mind, let your creativity run wild!

I’m the OP (duh), so I’ll begin with something that’d be horribly impractical.

Globule Barrier
[Merc Name] tosses a pellet that explodes on impact, expanding into a gigantic, team-colored blob (after a short delay) that blocks fire from both sides and prevents anything from moving through. Enemies caught in the blob when it forms are trapped within it, being unable to move, shoot, use abilities, or damaged by anything that isn’t a Fire Support ability (excluding Molotovs).

Rocket Pack
Allows for a super jump, or 1.5 seconds of limited flight time. Makes you immune to fall damage, and kills enemies if you land on their head.

Honestly, I think the only thing about this that is SILLY is the goomba stomp…

I like the concept. Another scrapped ability idea I had was an exoskeleton suit that allowed you to perform super-high jumps and dash in any direction, even in midair.

Yeah, the silly bit is the Goomba stomp. Perhaps a fall distance-activated function…?

Healing Flux

Using a special pistol, (Random name here) can create a healing flux that heals the targetted ally.

(Wanted to make some sort of upside down Sporks but then i tought it was a bad idea.)

Arc Pylon
[Merc] plants an Arc Pylon at their feet that shoots a lightning bolt at nearby enemies that slows and disables their HUD for a short duration.

Either OP or UP depending on context, as well as the fact that it’s quite similar to Bushwhacker’s turret…

Bubble Shield
A device that creates an energy shield around where the device is placed. The device regenerates HP at 75 health per second, but it only has 300 HP.

The only reason that I think this isn’t a good idea is because Turtle, if he’s ever released…

COCAINE
Makes it hard to manage recoil, slows movement, lowers health regent speed. Its a dart that you through to somebody, and they feel stoned for 1min with 30sec cooldown per dart.

Cocaine gives you a high not slows people down and gets you stoned. That’s weed.

Tether Trap
[Merc] tosses a tether trap that arms shortly after hitting the ground. When an enemy passes by it, a tether shoots out and pulls them towards the trap, temporarily immobilizing them.

This is intended to be a secondary ability to a future merc suggestion of mine that involves a grappling hook and a very interesting set of passive abilities…

Radial Revive
CD: 12 seconds
Revives everyone in a 3m radius with 30-60 health.

Plot Armor
CD: 2 seconds/3 seconds (like Phantom’s cloak) max 8 seconds.
Grants everyone in a 5m radius 10% damage reduction and yourself 20% damage reduction. Also leaves you detected on the enemy minimap.

Scatter Shot
CD- 4 sec, 4 shots

A customized shotgun that shoots flechette rounds with low damage falloff and high accuracy. Each shot shoots 5 pellets in an ‘X’ shape that deal up to 25 damage. Each pellet can bounce twice on any surface, but stop at enemies and deployables.

Eggs of Death
CD - 4.20 seconds

Throws an egg that has equal chances to detonate with a fragmentation, smoke, concussion, airstrike marker, or heartbeat sensor effect, as well as becoming a small ammo pack or med pack on detonation.

This was my idea for a goof merc who’s a chicken that’s been roided out by the CDA. Have you seen those posters? That’s the future.

Flower bomb
CD - 15 seconds, 2 shots

A launcher that fires out a cluster of 5 mid range explosives that explode 2 seconds after hitting an object or reaching maximum range. Blast radius is short and each explosive deals 20 damage.
(I realized that the ability itself is just a combo of Stickies and Naders launcher.)

MORPHINE INJECTOR

Heals teammates for 120 HP, and you can self heal for 60. Self healing makes your screen slightly distorted for 10 seconds.

Cooldown: 3 total with a cooldown of 12 seconds each

Throwable Hammer

“Gives a throwable hammer as an ability. Every Merc got themselves hit with the hammer will struck by a lightning for 2 seconds, each strike has 45 damage per hit”

FLOWER POWER

A chemical bomb that pacifies enemies for a short while, making them unable to attack, but they can still run around as normal, without any other effects.

EDIT:
DRONE

Changes view to a drone in the sky, and makes you able to control it for a short while. The drone moves all directions, but can’t go up or down. You can shoot with the drone enemies below. While you’re in control of it, your body becomes stationary for the whole while.

DEFENSIVE MATRIX

Places down a bubble-type shield, if an ally is in the shield, they’ll get 10% resistence to all damages, additionaly, after being cast the shield will block any bullet for the next 2 seconds.

JACK-IN-THE-BOX

Places a small package, that arms itself after 2 seconds, if an enemy goes near the box, the box will emit a loud screeching noise, making the enemies run in fear and take 5% more damage.

GM Power

Grants 100% Health, 100% Damage, Make every hit a headshot, and run like 2 Sparks/Auras combined.

(Ability idea for a GM Merc.)

Haven’t we all? Like this thing I came up with a long time ago:

Smart Rifle
Locks on to enemies within a short range. After a short lock-on delay, discharge all queued projectiles.

Basically the Smart Pistol from Titanfall… obviously you can see why I never made a thread for this…
