Think they’re both referring to consoles but yeah, W:ET was in top 3 most played FPS PC games for a long while.
Lets just be clear.
Any gamer who picks just one platform by choice and defends that choice is clearly an idiot.
Any gamer who feels each platform is the same and should be treated the same, is an idiot.
Any gamer who thinks the most popular platform is the best is, yup, an idiot.
We shouldn’t be fighting amongst ourselves, we should be united in demanding quality regardless of the platform we game on.
This. A thousand times this!
Every platform does certain games better than every other platform. I game on multiple platforms and prefer certain games on certain platforms.
The big platform friction comes in when the game has not been tailored to a platform. It doesn’t make it a universal bad game but might make it a terrible experience on a certain platform.
PC gaming is far from dead. Just the sheer number of experimental (and crazy cheap) indie games makes the platform worthwhile. Nevermind all the standard AAA releases that we get across every platform.
There will always be games locked to a platform. Sometimes due to control mechanisms, sometimes due to exclusivity agreements, sometimes due to developer preference.
Can we put the console vs PC war to bed now?
Proven commercially. W:ET was an anomaly, a commercial quality game, with high level development, released for free off the back of another commercially successful game. Unless SD is going to start releasing games for nothing repeating the formula (or worse diluting it) to gain marketshare is missing that very large point. Listening to fans of W:ET/ETQW saying “do it again, do it again” and at the same time dismissing them as being a minority audience who’s input is not representative of the masses also shows how conflicted SD seems to have become.
Your playing Tribes?
If you’re playing ascend in beta please don’t ever refer to playing that as playing Tribes again. <3
Huh? I play T2 on my pc, will play ascend when it’s out.
I played in one of the test days on the 27th. I got destroyed by all the Tribes veterans, but it was still fun. The learning curve of the game makes me want to practice and get decent at the game, because I know I will be rewarded for my time. I know that the curve isn’t as high as in previous Tribes games, but for someone like me who hasn’t played Tribes in over 10 years, it is still pretty significant.
Tribes Next is actually populated? Thought that bish died already?
As for ascend I’m in beta and I wouldn’t get your hopes up for ascend… Maybe they can change some stuff around… But as of right now the movement isn’t anywhere near where it needs to be, the part of movement that made Tribes unique and slightly more difficult was the skiing and now the boosting is screwing with that because it is way too floaty, balance between weapons are screwed and the whole pay for loadout **** is ridiculous. When this game goes public, why the hell am I going to have to pay to do an essential part of this game and change my weapon setup? If you’re not going the pay to play you need to stick to making people pay for cosmetics and not functions of the game. Then there are only two weapons per loadout? Sounds dumbed down to me. Disc jumping barely propels you, which makes catching flag carriers who spend time setting up their route hard and not all loadouts even come with a spinfuser / spinfuser-esque weapon like in T2. To try to combat this they’ve put a speed cap in that has apparently reduced the speed to like 3rd of what it was before instead of just adding more propulsion to the disc jumping o.0… Pretty sure Quake Live didn’t reduce rocket jumping to ****, where did they even get that idea? Also they haven’t been listening to their community, not only are former tribes players complaining but even their own Global Agenda fanbase is saying they’re making the game too slow and skill capped. I didn’t even know MMO players knew what a skill cap was…

Wow, all of that sounds awful, esp the speed cap.
…and those are only issues which come to mind at the time, every time I visit this thread I can think of more **** I hated about that game when i played it… Like how many hitscan guns they have which is significantly more than Tribes 2 which only had the sniper rifle. Then you have the fact that the sniper rifle doesn’t deplete your boost to zero like in T2, which was one of the main negatives to balance this weapon in a game where the majority of the enemy team is generally visible as most maps were outdoor arenas… Having to sacrifice your mobility for a pinpoint accurate, high range weapon with high damage kept this weapon fairly balanced, not so much anymore.
