As if RO2 isn`t dead already.
Silence
There’s currently more than 2,000 players on Red Orchestra 2. Hardly what I’d call ‘dead’. By comparison, Brink rarely makes the Steam top 100 list any more.
Wait a month or two, it will be the same as Brink.
Good release impression is what gives a game longevity these days.

You’re incredibly wrong here. RO1 still has a decent community, especially Darkest Hour. Darkest Hour has a bigger playerbase than Brink and that game is just a mod! Unlike Brink, RO2 actually has solid gameplay and an SDK on the way. RO2 isn’t going to die out like Brink did, it has so many more communities jumping on to the game and Tripwire is actually listening to the community to fix things. How many patches has Tripwire released and how many have SD released? Not being a fanboy here but SD didn’t even make an effort to keep this game alive…
RO2 has multiple clans, multiple high-quality mods on the way, etc. The worst errors have already been fixed and the stat glitches have been reset. I expect that RO2 will live on for quite some time, albeit as a niche title. BRINK on the other hand isn’t looking so hot right now, barring some kind of extreme developer intervention-- and even then, I don’t think it will be the mainstream hit that it had the potential to be.

The goalposts went that way =>
It just has more maggots in it`s corpse. Then again, maybe it constitutes a living for some.
Oh, and that stats glitch and the way they “fixed” it was an especially nice touch. Brings up a new trust in developer, brah.

The way they did fix it was good actually. Everybody who got glitched got an achievment which basically gives them double xp for the next few weeks.
Also RO2 has a lot of life left in it. Tripwire is working hard on this game, can’t really say the same for SD when it comes to Brink.
Completely ridiculous. You let this game rot and fester until there is literally less than a couple dozen people online at any given moment and are holding back CRUCIAL changes because of Clan Support? WHAT CLANS? You guys have completely lost the plot, holy crap. I’m starting to worry that the complete failure of your product has sent you into some kind of dementia where you imagine reality being completely different than it is.
Oh and in what universe could it possibly take this long to make weapon balance changes? What the hell are you guys doing over there? What happened to the MAGICAL POWER OF NETVARS? Maybe making it so crucial, game balance critical things like weapon values only changeable with heavy amounts of work that takes ridiculous amount of time was a bad idea. Jesus, the level incompetence displayed by the handling of this game is infuriating. You must be joking if you think people will EVER buy another Splash Damage game after this travesty.
How are we ridiculous? Many of us spent $50 for this game and it was never fixed. If they would have given pc users more flexibility with the game it would have had more of a lifespan. I expected more out of SD.
Brink should have been patched every week since launch, even if the patch was 1mb in size and fixed only 1 minor thing.
eg: “This week we fixed a typo, have fun”
At least people would have had more hope and had waited. This brick wall we are talking to, tends to get old.
Weapon balances could have been done a lot more often regardless of what the status of the other contents is. Even if they have to change only 1 weapon by less than a 1% change. At least they would have gotten the weapons right by now. Or more importantly, to the point where the community thinks they are right.
I was playing the Battlefield 3 Beta the other day…it was a camp-fest like no other…appereantly, the new big thing is that everybody is crawling everywhere at all times…it reminded me what’s so great about Brink…it’s the polar opposite. Move and shoot, instead of shoot, but for the love of god, don’t move! Brink is just fun, Battlefield is not.
Agreed. Didn’t feel like we got our money’s worth, even with the free DLC and by the time the patches are all done noone will be playing.
And now with Rage having so many issues on PC with ATI and Nvidia cards at launch I’m thinking maybe it’s time id (and SD when they get the next id engine) should drop OpenGL and just move onto DirectX engines.
What’s with Bethesda’s PC games coming out bugged to hell and back recently? Is it a lack of QA? is it an unrealistic deadline designed to cash in as early as possible to the detriment of the game? Glad I didn’t preorder Rage. I’ll not be picking up anything from Bethesda unless I see quality again. I suggest SD moves publishers (and engines).
I’ve pretty much given up hope for Brink. There’s noone left to play with on PC whenever I log in. At least TF2 has a community and I still get to choose what hat I can wear.
Come on Borderlands 2.
That’s why, despite awesome graphics, I won’t pick it up and keep playing Brink instead.

You’re ridiculous. Everybody agrees there was a screw up but this update is most likely part of the original contract between SD and Beth. Also, you don’t really know whose decision (SD or Beth) is to blame for the late patch schedule and the sporadic communication.
No need to burst in flames like that with all the classic “nobody will ever buy a game from you evaaaarrrr”, you’re just showing how you lose to your emotions like a kid. Take some altitude.
What worries you about them, specifically?
We’re almost there btw - not much longer to wait.
The PR is a bit rubbish. Look at how Blizzard does it. They hold really frequent and elaborate Developer blogs in which they deal with a range of things, most importantly balance issues where they give an in-depth motivation for the way they’re taking the game.
Rahdo and Exedore could have done that instead of entering into direct discussion with the community. Not that I didn’t appreciate that, but I’m it would be less emotionally demanding (because we’re jerks like that) and would’ve gotten more exposure from the community (these things also tend to show up in the steam news feed of the game).
The reason Blizzard is such a success is that the people who buy their games know that they’re not dropping their community. I shouldn’t have to explain this to producers who ought to know everything about customer retention.
It’s also not like this expensive or not interesting enough to write about. You guys hold seminars at developer conventions, you’ve shown to have vision. Why not use that opportunity to turn it into a billboard for the company?
It’s just kind of worrying when you miss both the NA and EU ESL tournaments, especially when there’s money involved in them. All the Brink players wanted these weapon tweaks, but the competitive players really needed them as you want to either win or lose the money because of how you played, not because of how random the game is. Competitive players are one of those player bases that keep games going on for years to come, but you’ve lost pretty much all of us now.
If you didn’t know, there were 3 teams to sign up to National ESL’s tournament, and, from what I heard, around 8 teams to sign up for the ESL tournament. NESL’s tournament didn’t even happen, so we all missed out and it seems there’s only 3 active ESL teams playing.
You guys are still bitching? seriously give it rest already, man talk about about wasted energy.
