Sick of Downloads

(schmeisser) #1

With a few exceptions, most of the new maps suck or grow tiresome quickly. Actually getting onto a server eats up a big chunk of my limited available gametime, endless mods downlaoding at 5kb/sec or some such, not to mention the adaware I’m certain I picked up last week. If I turn off autodownload, I get a “missing map” message. Any completely stock original map servers out there? This crap is ruining the game for me.

New map suck, and the old ones doesn’t? Then again, I loathe all custom ET maps except the SDs.

With etpub, the server can optionally send the campaign map list in the server info string so server browsers can see if the right target map(s) are running. Don’t blame the etpub team if no server browsers have implemented this yet, we’re ahead of the curve!

Seriously, you can set up ASE to only let you see servers that have that serverinfo string variable enabled, and then you can just join a server you know will not have the maps you do not want. No need to join a server then be surprised after playing 5 maps that there’s a download required.

But we can blame etpub when the serverinfo overflows, right ?

(Calzonzin) #6

Yes you should… tjw has coded against that, so if there is an overflow, bring on the blame!

lemme know when etpub emulates the etpro antilag and hit detection precisely (meaning bani gives you the code), and i will stop filtering against it. until then, playing your mod (or any mod but etpro) would actually be detrimental to me.

(Calzonzin) #8

You have us worried there

Actually we commited recently b_realhead code from zinx (BTW, thanks zinx!), and I don’t think there are objections to using anything else the good etpro folks don’t mind sharing. I think at this stage it’s a matter of prioritizing feature requests vs manpower, rather than adhering to the “not invented here” syndrome.

well put, I think it’s been shown without a doubt, here especially, bani and company’s willingness to help this little community, modders included. ETpub at least asked for support in implementing some of etpro’s benefits unlike some other mods who add “realistic” to the name and expect everyone to bow down and embrace their view of the game, it’s just another set of administrative tools with some features for people who don’t want to play clanbase configs all the time
