Shrub wiped out by new patch?!

(Mr_Tickles) #1

I hate to make yet another thread about the new patch, however, I feel this needs to be asked…

Ok, most of you won’t really care as you hate Shrub, but it is a very popular mod for “fun” players.

NOTE FOR MOD USERS: It is recommended that any user modifications that have been installed to the

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory directory be removed. These modifications are not supported by Activision®

and may not be compatible with some of the fixes that are included with this patch.

Now, does this mean that we should remove shrub as it won’t work anymore?

I played on a Shrub server earlier with the new patch installed, and it all seemed to be okay on the surface of things. It did crash/reset the server once a certain number of maps were played, but I think this may be a bug with the patch as others have experienced it apart from shrub.
However, will Shrub still fully work properly?

Seen as though development on Shrub no longer exists, does this mean that the new patch, created by the ETPro team, would wipe out Shrub?!

Mr_Tickles,
I believe what is being said here is for server admins NOT to run mods in etmain. For example, one could easily run the shrub mod inside etmain by replacing (or sym linking) the stock game files with the mod files. A lot of people did this due to client profile issues (if you played on a number of named mod servers, e.g. shrub, shrubet, etpro, etc., you would have as many profile configs to maintain plus the one in etmain. Also, the profile.pid crash fixed in this patch was another motivating factor to run mods in etmain. Shrub servers that ran only shrub typically would do this. I’m guessing that the new client mod options may be the reason, but I haven’t tested it.

I don’t think its prejudicial. Server admins that did this knew what they were doing.

I’d be more interested in hearing from experienced shrub server admins about their experiences with the patch on 1.2-TEST13

BTW, we love shrub. We also miss him. It would be nice if the two visions for the game could come together. If not with this patch, sometime in the future.

There are a few people who are working on some shrub-like mods with a good deal of success. We may or not be able to run Shrub itself, but once the source is released we won’t have to worry about it.

:uhoh: <- reminds me of Sally Field

Mr chubbyrooster,
Thank you for your reply. However, you somewhat lost me in amongst that post. I don’t really see the relevance of running the mod within or externally to the etmain folder itself. Whether you do or not, there could still be compatibility issues between Shrub and the new patch. I, too was hoping for the “visions” coming together, in the sense that it would be nice to have all the bugs from etmain in shrub eliminated by this.

Mr Jaybird,
Yes, there are other shrub-like mods around, however they are not “Shrub”.
I’m not sure what you mean about us not having to worry when the source is released. Shrub is not being developed, and therefore won’t catch up with the new patch.

Hey, maybe it’s just because i’m tired right now

You always have the option to keep running shrub if it’s working…

I agree with Jaybird though, now would be a good time to switch to a mod that has active developers. It may not have all shrub features initially, but will at least be less buggy. I’m pretty sure that in time and with support of the shrub community it will be a lot better.

I actually think that they mean the mod overwrites, as opposed to seperate mod folders, my fresh install has a mod button in game menu

Im running shrub 1.2-TEST13 with the 2.60 patch, just had a small problem loading radar, but it works perfect now…

A lot of those fixes wouldn’t be fixed by this patch as a lot of the fixes are in the game source and not so much the engine. Since Shrub uses the older source, well, it has a lot of those bugs in it heh.

Also, let me repeat. Shrub is no longer developed, yes. However, there are a few mods that aim to reproduce Shrub and add new features and stability. You may or may not be able to use Shrub on the new version, but there will be others that will probably do the job better than Shrub does that will work for sure once the new source is released. Even the stuff I’m working on works with the new patch w/o a hitch. Have a lil faith.
