Shrub mod for ET

(Sauron|EFG) #1

Don’t ask me how, but there’s a Shrub mod for ET coming up. I’ve only tried the +salute command and the modified med pack tossing (something like 15 meters when I was on) myself, but there’s obviously some other goodies like remembering XP for players that disconnect/reconnect…

Try it yourself:
Shrub’s ET server - 205.177.13.20:27961

Now all I wish for is some Bani features… :drink:

If they need more server for testing I would be more than willing to help!

+salute is in ET to start with, shrub had nothing to do with that. And the chances of shrub getting the source code, AND testing it on his server without pretty much everyone knowing are about slim to nill. I’m curious, does he pay people to brown nose him?

I haven’t come upon another ET server where you can push people with +salute, although I know the command exists. Please explain further.

And the chances of shrub getting the source code, AND testing it on his server without pretty much everyone knowing are about slim to nill.

I’m not saying he has the source code, but at least he did manage to modify how you throw med packs (can this be done by modifying the PK3?). Try it yourself if you don’t believe me.

I’m curious, does he pay people to brown nose him?

Thank you kind Sir, I’m sure I deserved that! :blah:

+salute :???:

<-- RTCW n00b

+Salute is a bind. You can use it to shove people whoo are right next to you, and drag bodies to a safer spot.

And I know Salute is already in ET, because I’ve seen bodies being dragged.

This Shrub server also has other Shrub-ish console commands though. Splash said they were going to give him the source code, so it’s not too hard to belive he’s just testing.

I expect Splash to give thier standard helpful reply: “…”

i never played rtcw… i’ve been playing et since the beta soooo… what and or how do you use +salute???

(Homer J) #8

You just bind it to a key eg pull down the console and type /bind h +salute then if you walk up to somebody who is, say, blocking a doorway and press the key they get shoved out of the way. If you walk up to a dead body and hold the key down you can drag it along the floor.

bitchen ty ty ty

(senator) #10

That’ll only work in RtCW with the Shrub-mod but not in ET, right ?

([FF]Deckoh) #11

yup… it must only work in rtcw-shrub mod… just tried it :bash:

I think the deal is that the salute command existed in RTCW, but didn’t do anything. It is not uncommon to have features which are not fully implmented. shrub (in rtcw) just made it do something. This was helpful for shrub mod, because he could add a ‘new’ command while still having a server only mod.

I haven’t played on shrubs et server, but based on other peoples reports, it does sound like it has been modified in some way. While it is possible to make mods without the source, it is quite difficult.

If it is true that he has the source, I really hope splash (or id or activision) considers giving out to other people. IMHO, with some fairly minor changes ET would be much more attractive as a competition game. I would be happy to sign an NDA or additional license agreement to get access to the source.

SHRUB’s pants for RTCW, a poor mans OSP.

(colic) #14

Errrrr you obviously know nothing about the 2 mods so I would suggest you go play both mods on RTCW and come back with a sensible post.

OSP does not effect gameplay in any major way it is primaraly for clan matches due to the functions and of course stat whores

Shrub mod along with Bani mod are mods that are to do with making the game different including new featuers or game modes.

How you can say it is a poor man’s osp is very bizzare, when the only thing that they have in common is that they record stats :bash:

(Sauron|EFG) #15

The conflict in RtCW was because you had to choose either OSP or Shrub (or Bani, or any other mod), but here we have a chance to have both. While a lot of the RtCW Shrub features are just for fun (and some pretty useless) we have a chance to get some of the things fixed that a lot of people have been complaining about (e.g. ammo pack throwing, remembering XP when you disconnect/reconnect). And this even if SD doesn’t release a patch (which of course would be even better).

I’m just hoping default values will be sensible so that even lazy server admins can install it without ruining the server.

Surely it must be possible to add client commands on a server-side mod? Both Shrub and Bani have lots of commands that I doubt existed in RtCW (like /playdead, /tripmine and /pilot).

(SCDS_reyalP) #16

As far as I’m aware, they didn’t add any other commands that use +/- like salute. That is really just a guess on my part though…

(Majikthise) #17

They added lots of commands, it’s kind of expected if you plan to implement new features.

(Sauron|EFG) #18

That makes sense, although I think it would have been better as a “normal” command like /shove in Bani mod. Some people just do a /+salute in the console and leave it like that (constant pushing!), which is really annoying. And even worse is that it still works when they are killed, making it really hard to revive them.

(bani) #19

latest banimod does shoving even better, no need for +salute or /shove

(fat boost) #20

Hey Bani, has Splash gotten in touch with you about the source code? Or is that Mega Delux Top Secret? :uhoh:
