Should you be able to shoot through teammates?

(SiegeFace) #1

I hate my shots being absorbed by teammates, do you agree or no?

(Nail) #2

absolutely not, I believe friendly fire should be on by default

(darlingClaymore) #3

Friendly fire no, that just ruins games. I love how its handled in this one, blocking dmg.

(SereneFlight) #4

Mmmm… I don’t really care even tho it’s annoying af when you’re in a firefight, you’re just about to kill the enemy and a teammate pops up out of nowhere right in front of you… obviously.

(3N1GM4) #5

Hmph, missed the “i don’t care” option. While I hate idiot teammates stepping infront of me and ruining everything, it would open the door for meat shields to no long be effective so…

(SiegeFace) #6

So dumb teammates just rule this game then.

Fair enough xD.

At least then I can punish the idiots who step in front of me.

Was playing sparks tonight and teammates kept blocking the revivr while trying to revive. Also execution had some shots lined up ready to fire timed perfectly and then POW level 3 skyhammer in my face

(SteelMailbox) #7

I am the minority over here but I already did a thread talking about how I hate my special abilities being blocked by teammates the pulled on me a John Cena, same goes for bullets.
That being said I am talking about pubs, comp shouldn’t have the feature.

(CLS) #8

I’m all for friendly fire being ON so no, no way.

(DMaster2) #9

Nope, it’s fine as it is now.

(HunterAssassin5) #10

i didnt even know you could damage friendlies. can you? i see a lot of people saying “friendly fire”

(immenseWalnut) #11

You can’t damage them when it is turned off, but your bullets still hit them and are absorbed by them. Friendly fire is there for competitive play, but it tends to be bad in casual because of bad players running in front of teammates and then crying about trolls, or just because of trolls.

Just give us 2 FF on min level 20 6vs6 servers per region and see how it goes. Game experience was far more interesting with FF on during closed beta. This “no ff on on public” policy just erased a whole depth layer of the game.

If public can’t have access to FF on, then competitive should have FF off mandatory as well. That’s just segregating a massive part of the playerbase of what is regarded as the most demanding game experience.

cs:go, lol and any other competitive game built their success around one important thing : random Joe has the possibility to have the exact same rules in a normal pub game.

And I hear the “too much spam” answers already. But people learn to behave. I’m convinced they do. I’ve played numerous other game where tk had a higher probability to happen than in DB and people just dealt with it nicely. Trolls just got kicked out right away.

If people still strafe in front of friendlies a lot in this game, that’s because they’ve never tried a ff on game. They never got straight punished by a friendly fragger nade falling behind them.

Putting FF on servers would be profitable for both people who want it and also for people who prefer FF off. There’s some regular arse behaviours that would totally vanish if only people had the opportunity to go on FF on servers from time to time.

And no, no bullet through friendlies with FF off. You’re already facing a big wall of bullets in 1vsN situations. No need for more.

I wish projectiles could go through, but bullets shouldn’t.

I agree with you completely. Moderators closed my friendly fire for a few public servers thread because they considered it a necropost because apparently they don’t want to read that a lot of players want to have FF on.

I used to be an admin for a couple of servers in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and I always had friendly fire active. If there was any intentional team killing I would suspend them for 24 hours. If they were repeat offenders I would suspend them for 72 hours. Third time and I would ban them.

(Maverix) #15

I find it funny how you can run through your team mates but you can’t shoot through them; and you can’t run through the enemy but bullets can straight through them and hit people behind them (think double headshots with Vassili).

(Blackers) #16

No, absolutely not. Although I certainly wouldn’t have a problem with say an XP punishment of some sort to players who get in your way of fire and deny damage to your target. Maybe when it gets quite excessive from a certain player this would take effect. This would obviously only be when a player is already shooting at an enemy and is then interrupted by a teammate who is in the line of fire and absorbs the out going damage that would have otherwise hit the enemy.

Maybe some sort of a ‘you are being a dick’ punishment in general would be good for this game. since this game does push the whole ‘don’t be a d*ck’ thing. It would just seem fitting.

So, being a dick in any sort of way would punish you somehow, so reduction in credits won during a match, or just XP reduction.

For example, “You are being a d*ck -250XP”

This would be for certain ‘crimes’ such as constantly blocking someones line of fire, being a medic and ignoring teammates who are downed or in need of health when they have requested a medic, same would be for mercs who can supply ammo and don’t deploy ammo stations or drop ammo packs when it has been requested.

Oh, and damn spawn campers get this regardless.

PUNISH.

SPAWN CAMPERS.

I dunno, just a thought. but would be nice to see a system in place that discourages ignoring your teammates…

and spawn camping.

So… basically screwing over new players who haven’t figured out their merc’s role yet by bombarding them with XP and credit penalties, as well as veteran players who obviously aren’t going to stop shooting an enemy just to run across the map to give another teammate ammo so that they don’t lose a bunch of their credits at the end?

While there are many ways to try and encourage/enforce teamplay, a penalty for NOT healing or giving ammo is the worst way around it.

well what i had in mind (but failed to put into writing) was it would only go into effect if said medic/ammo suppler is within reasonable distance, liked a few feet. this would be for those times players in need of health or ammo are practically hugging the player whose attention they are after and requesting health and ammo. if it is over a distance then that would be understandable and no penalties would take effect

as for new players, i think a system like that would help point them in the right direction.

if not, have it only take effect in level 5 and above servers or something.

again, just an idea i feel should be open to debate

nothing more to say
