Should we strip as much RNG out of the game as possible?

(CCP115) #1

I am sick and tired of this fucking RNG in this motherfucking game.

And I’m sure you are all too.

(Amerika) #2

Are you talking about the RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG that is the cosmetic loadout card system? Or are you talking about gun/ability mechanics?

(Hibbsan) #3

Let me guess, you are whining about the RNG because you are not getting any CW cards, right? is it so hard for you people to understand that they have to earn money somehow. And how do they earn money? They make elite cases with better % chance compared to normal cases. And a lot of people, including me, are buying them. it’s not like you are getting better at the game because you have CW cards or anything like that, it’s purely cosmetic after all. You knew damn well when you first started playing this game that the cases was RNG, so why are you complaining so much about it now? stop playing if the RNG doesnt suit you anymore.

(DMaster2) #4

Should stay but get a bit reduced.

(darlingClaymore) #5

all I heard, I’m paying for them now hush peasant I’m superior. Yeah no

(MarsRover) #6

If everyone had your attitude, today we would still be plowing fields under King Henry XXXVII. Want to change something? Well fuck off - get used to it or go away.

(cordovanJive) #7

Severe RNG is in the game because the unboxing bit is supposed to be unfair. It really is. RNG is how a free to play game makes money. You are never meant to get anything good in the normal cases for the most part because it’s made to give you an incentive into buying the real cases.

If they gave out cobalt cards every other case you bought with in game currency nobody would buy their real cases, and they’d make no money.

This is how a free2play system works.

He’s right you know, its a f2p game, they have to make cash somehow, I have spent over £70 on this game now and always got something of value in return and plus i get a warm fuzzy feeling supporting the devs… just saying.

We live in a money centric world, nothing will change unless the people change, and that is not likely to happen.

(Daergar) #10

Uhm, I’ve spent much more on other f2p games that had exactly zero randomness on what I purchased.

Path of exiles; more stash space and a very fair (relatively speaking of course) bundle that listed precisely what I got.

Firefall; a founder’s pack and some other goodies, also listing exactly what I was getting.

Both games also offer cosmetics and various boosters et cetera for a set price, no randomness, no luck, no nonsense.

I know there are many other examples on monetization done right, no doubt even better than what I listed, I only picked those two because of my extensive experience with them.

I know DB offers things for a set price as well. The problem is that the pricing is completely out of touch with what you receive since it has to be balanced around the randomness of “elite cases” and all the other nonsense.

Please stop defending rng-focused monetization. There are so many better ways to milk a customer, ways that leave everyone satisfied and craving a smoke and not the way it stands.

(gg2ez) #11

Here’s my suggestion.

You can buy cases for any amount of credits from 1000c. The more credits you put onto a case, the more chance you have of getting a rarer card.

Numerical values undecided.

(Atherel) #12

I bought mercs and bronze loadouts. I won’t spend real money on anything when I don’t know what I get.

Yeah I don’t know what you’re trying to say. Talk specifics or not at all.

DB cosmetic system is one the worst. It targets whales and/or people with a gambling addiction. What’s even worse, it is coupled with the loadout system. Trading/marketplace won’t help. There’s zero attractive ways of spending money for regular players.

(yusayu) #14

RNG is frustrating for the player. I know of no other game that has this amount of RNG in it’s ‘leveling’ and unlocking system and it’s stupid the way it is now.

(CCP115) #15

You can take a guess there, unless the comment was sarcastic. What RNG is there in the gun mechanics anyway? Spread and recoil? I can’t think of any.

Doesn’t sound like you’ve ever played a successful free to play game before. SD wants money? That’s great, I’d love to give them some, but here’s the deal: I want something in return. I’m such a greedy person aren’t I? So what can I do? Buy something I like, they get money, and we’re all happy.

And then there’s RNG. This stops me from getting what I want. And that stops SD from getting my money, and lots of other people’s money. Yes there are whales that give SD money anyway, and that’s fine, but it’s not a wise investment with this much RNG.

No other free to play game has this kind of RNG, and they do fine. SD really needs to reconsider this. Just look at any Valve game, or BL:R, League of Legends, anything really. You will see why DB has unacceptable RNG.

And yea I am salty I didn’t get a CW card, what’s that got to do with anything? I’m not the only one who didn’t get one.

I’ve been playing since Closed Beta, and i never imagined the RNG would get this bad. I always thought they would come up with a new system, and that the cases was placeholder, but no, it looks like it’s here to stay unfortunately.

I’ve seen many others invest in elite cases, and I have gotten them from free weekends. There is no way in hell I’m spending money on RNG. i would go bet on horses if I wanted to gamble.

My point is that there are an infinite number of better ways to make money in a F2P game. This is not a good way, and it should really change.

(Mister__Wiggles) #16

It’s a pretty biased poll. You offer no alternative to the RNG model, maybe in a future poll you consider this or by all means explain your idea to me and others like me. @CCP115

(Eox) #17

Sadly, that RNG feels needed in order to avoid people getting things way too easly. However we can tune it down a bit, because as it is it may feel a bit too hard to get anything nice from cases. Also, trade-in needs an heavy rework, but everyone knows this.

(srswizard) #18

I can’t enjoy the gunplay when my aim is being thrown all over the place by aimpunch.
Also the increasing of spread on guns is a shitty way to balance, in most cases anyway.

Edit. This is about cases? Oh okay, I really don’t care.

(M4st0d0n) #19

They could let the full loadout with the three abilities already on the default loadout or the bronze cards, but make the weapon with a rusty texture (or making fart noize when they shoot or whatever cosmetic downside, lol). Skinner boxes are fine for the cosmetics, but sadly this system is not just about cosmetics.

Or maybe balance the abilities with associated downsides. I think about “tryhard”, that’s a balanced perk because it requires you to die. It’s bad because all the other perks are just direct upgrades. They give an edge.

(CCP115) #20

How’s it biased? It’s either “RNG goes” or “RNG stays” if you want to see an alternate model (or “RNG stays with changes”, you could suggest one or look at the many that currently exist. I won’t suggest one because I don’t really have one, aside from a Valve copy paste, because I think those systems are pretty solid.

No offense, but does the case system not at all seem odd? or affect you in the slightest? Do you just buy bronzes straight from the store and use them? I know you used to play Loadout, that system had basically no RNG when it came to buying parts and such. Was that system not better than this current system?

And yea aimpunch is starting to get to me now, but that’s kind of already been established as permanent, though most of the community want it out.
