Should we be allowed to switch Mercs without respawning?

(Samniss_Arandeen) #1

It would certainly make it easier to switch to whatever the team needs if we can run back to spawn/if Brink-style Command Posts are implemented and swap out for another Merc in our squad.

Then again, it removes the element of strategy for picking a Merc while waiting to respawn.

There’s arguments for both sides here, so have at it.

(Litego) #2

What’s the point? If you have to run back anyway, just check the spawn timer, press K when it closes 0 and you’re instantly back.

(Yes) #3

What, like an instant on the spot swap? Or do you mean being able to kill yourself and respawn as another merc without having to wait for a wave? Either way, no.

(Jurmabones) #4

I only voted yes for the reason that I see nothing wrong with having the option to do so. However, I personally wouldn’t bother using it. As someone said, you could just wait for your respawn timer to draw towards :01 then press K and swap out normally rather than spending the time to run back to swap.

(FilterDecay) #5

I voted no. However it would be a cool merc that had a perk that once per life they could switch to another merc once and it has to already be in the squad. Like a orbital relay switch.

(Adam) #6

The issue with this, is most players would abuse this. If they know they are going to die, they just push this switch merc class key, and skip the timer.

I do it all the time on my Proxie. If I know I am about to die, I will drop a mine below the person’s feet.

(Samniss_Arandeen) #7

No, I mean something like a command post sitting in the spawn that you can interact with and change to another Merc in your squad without dying or waiting for the respawn timer.

(Ghosthree3) #8

Walking back to spawn is literally worse than dying. Why? Because taking yourself out of combat for that long just to change to a class you should have picked in the first place is stupider than getting shot.

(FilterDecay) #9

K is the key you want.

(Gi.Am) #10

As @Ghosthree3 said bad idea. Dont get me wrong the command posts where great in Brink but DB is considerable faster than Brink and Brink had those post not only in spawn if my memory served me well.

Charging into the enemy and taking 1-2 enemies with you, or atleast hinder them from advancing and then switching classes is far better than encouraging people to abondon the battlefield to change their merc.

Besides part of DBs charm is that you have to work with limited ressources you have to work with only 3 Mercs per match and have to stay the same merc and make him work till you die.

(GhostEntity) #11

looks like that’s a massive no

(Edzer) #12

Easiest vote I’ve had on the forums yet.

(AirborneAsian) #13

Who would run back to spawn, when it takes over half of the respawn timer, and why would you do it if you need to do objectives, defend the team and kill enemies? Running back to change mercs is pure stupid, unless we don’t have an option to change mercs when dead (F1, F2, F3).

(Ghosthree3) #14

I like how you must have disliked my post out of reflex since that’s your thing now, because you said exactly what I did.

(DMaster2) #15

How do you check the spawn timer?

(JesseKomm) #16

Top left, right beside the game clock there is the respawn timer next to two arrows forming a circle. This is also useful information for attacking and defending in Stopwatch matches because you’ll know when the next wave of enemies is coming(Very useful when flanking).

(Ghosthree3) #17

That’s weird, I posted ‘next to the clock’ and no it’s not here. And yea, in stopwatch spawn waves are synced where as in objective they’re offset randomly.

(Mister_Jim_E_Rustler) #18

Thats a negative soldier.

The current system is meta goodness

(Loki.) #19

If am able to use this Command Post at anytime to switch to whatever merc i want from my loadout pool…

Then, Yes…

Too many times, my team is not prepared (No engy or med etc) or the Server barfs during loading and it by-passes my ability to choose a merc at the start of a match…

Would be nice to be able to counter the fore-mentioned…
