Should the Tutorial be Required?

(TheDoctorHax) #1

This is a poll made because of a topic that is trending here in the General Chat section.

(Ghosthree3) #2

I think the other thread being nothing but positive is enough.

(TheDoctorHax) #3

True, figured might as well make it a poll so it’s easier to see.

I totally meant to click yes, but I missed and accidentally hit “no”.

But for the future, you should attempt to articulate your point as to why you think I am wrong. But thanks for calling me out on this, it for sure brought it to my attention.

This game needs more players who play the objectives and at least have some sort of understanding of the game. Right now the players in teh game are god-awful and makes the game almost pointless playing.

(SteelMailbox) #7

I made a thread about this topic but the poll will make it easier to see so my explanation is there.
I didn’t saw one guy who refused to the idea so I think it should be implemented and as a guy who is learning html its pretty easy to do such a thing in html so doing it in a video game computer language shouldn’t be so hard.

(Eox) #8

Not only it should be required, but the tutorial should be reworked in order to explain some aspects of the game : the parkour system, the engineers, the fact that you need only one person to arm/defuse/build/repair, and a lot more.

(Jan S.) #9

Definitely. Not for open beta through, but I would love to see that in full release.

(ludicrousBlast) #10

Tutorial also needs to be updated for movement and not repairing when an engineer is already repairing.

(Faraleth) #11

Agree completely with what @ludicrousBlast said. From what I can remember, the tutorial doesn’t explain anything about engineers, which would be nice considering they are one of the more pivotal roles in a match!

Preferably, it would be nice to see sections on all 5 classes… Recon, Medic, Engineer, Fire-Support and Assault, to teach players their individual roles on the battlefield. Currently all it shows you is how to shoot and revive people… not a whole lot of use to newbies who don’t know how the actual game works.

Lets hope this gets updated in the future ^.^

Yeah, but the current tutorial doesn’t cut it.
It only gives some of the basics without any hint of real teamwork or the heat of the battle in which you have to make decisions how to help the team under pressure. For most the answer is simple: Run aimlessly while you shoot anything that moves.

(Fiktio) #13

Yes, but first the tutorial should get improved a bit.

I played tutorial when the game was in closed beta, but it after all it wasn’t really that useful. Maybe for those players that haven’t been playing shooter games before tutorial was useful when it shows how to aim and teach you how to revive, but after all those you can learn also quickly in public games.
There’s no need to be rocket scientist to figure out what to do with defibrillators and learning how to aim will require some time with practice anyways, so basically almost everything that you need to learn about the game are also learnable in public games.
Especially the most important part of the game: Teamwork.
That’s what you learn outside of the tutorial.

Tutorial so far wasn’t that useful for players that have some experience with shooter games before, (in my opinion of course) but improving the tutorial a bit to explain more about different classes and for example tell more about wall/long jumping and maybe mention that there’s no need to have whole team to plant or defuse C4 at the same time…

(PlayingUndead) #14

I did the tutorial and I’m still bad. Still agree, but it won’t save you.

Nothing can save you from bad teammates.

I wouldn’t mind different choices for the tutorial. You know “I’ve played shooters before” and “What is video game?” mode so players who just wanna give DB a quick spin to see if they like the feel don’t need to feel forced through “This is how you crouch!” and “This is shooting a gun! Pretty cool, huh!?” Some players really just wanna do a quick dip to see if they like the feel and if they feel too annoyed and forced they might honestly just uninstall off the bat. I’ve done it, hah. Not saying it’s right but you know, catering to different kinds and such. That’s just me.

(Ghosthree3) #15

Tutorial isn’t meant to make people good. It’s meant to inform them about basic game mechanics.

(XavienX) #16

There’s always idiots who think they’ll learn faster by skipping tutorials.

(N8o) #17

I know I hit “no” accidently, but damn, I am out numbered pretty damn hard :stuck_out_tongue:

(TheDoctorHax) #18

This seems pretty decisive. @MissMurder @Amerika MAKE IT SO! at least for the next update, but this needs to happen

(KangaJoo) #19

If the tutorial were complete, as in it didn’t forget to tell people about basic stuff like long jumping and walked people through a stopwatch game, then yes I’d say it should be. In its current state, there’s not much point.

(K1X455) #20

Teaching Skyhammer, Arty, Sawbonez and Sparks player to P A S S and not just drop the ammo or medpack on the run would be good…
