Should the tutorial be forced?

(Xyfurion) #1

Saw a post earlier today about this very topic. I was wondering how many of you wanted the tutorial to be mandatory

(MarsRover) #2

I mean I love cheese but I would stop eating it for the rest of my life if that would convince SD to make the tutorial mandatory.

(Dagasawr) #3

they should make the tutorial happen at the very start of the game instead that tutorial video (if they still have that its been a long time since i did the tutorial.)

(Jostabeere) #4

I am torn apart between “HELL YES! It need to be forced so we won’t have potatoes who don’t know the controls” and “No. This game advertised that it won’t hold your hand and rather kick your teeth out.”

(BlackboltLW) #5

Yes, and not only basic tutorials, but also more medic and repairing segments for the game. Also maybe should give new players rewards after completing tutorials like… 5000 Credits and one Elite Case*?

also maybe Turtle should be the engineer for the repairing tutorial segment

Also mozarellas definitely go with eggs

(Orivar) #6

I already asked this and got a lot of people to agree but SD didnt do ANYTHING WITH THAT. So dont think you can control it.

(BananaSlug) #7

It isn’t forced? I remember I did it when I started the game. Anyway good idea

(watsyurdeal) #8

That and an Objective Specialist Section, so people understand the importance of the objectives.

(FireWorks) #9

This.

I would gladly play the tutorial a few hundred times in a row just to get a forced tutorial before the first match.

I usually skip the tutorials in games(except for dank souls because you can’t), but I like the idea of giving players rewards for completing it, rainbow six siege gives you rewards and challenges in the tutorial missions and it seems to work pretty well but maybe also have a one time reward for completing the assault course at a certain time.
Smoked gouda is pretty great on sandwiches.

(bontsa) #12

After all the debate and being long time on the “must be mandatory” side I’ve tilted more towards having it simply superiorly incentivised but leaving option to choose for people (well the ones stubborn, inpatient or silly enough).

For example the starter level up bonus of 30k credits that you get around lvl4 or something could be distributed only to people who’ve cleared the tutorial. Perhaps give some reward for first time clearing assault course too.

(bontsa) #13

Rather extremely incentivised tutorial so people can’t talk crap about “losing the freedom of choice” or stuff like that. Giving the starter lvlup bonus, 30k credits, for only those who’ve gone through tutorial would be good for example.

E: Fair enough, 2 threads were merged together due containing exactly same subject. Thus so here were 2 similar comments.

Tutorial should be mandatory, especially the engineer one when it will be available. Because Dirty Bomb is an objective based game. To win the game, you have to do your job. And to learn your job, you need to follow lessons. Or learn by yourself but i think not a lot of player do this.

Or make it mandatory not at starting the game but to reach the lvl 7, as it’s actually the required lvl to access the ranked mode (meaning you’re supposed to know what to do). So new players could play the game without a tutorial that could annoy them but to go further in the game, you need to do tutorial.

Ive been seeing some people wanting to make the tutorial mandatory. With DBs focus on team-work and each merc having a role that the player must remember to play, I think the tutorial should be forced so players know to give AMMO or revive friendlies. I met a player who thought they could only give themselves ammo as Skyhammer before I explained things to him.

Here’s one of the forums I found the idea on

I understand the frustration everyone has about people not doing objectives, but what would forcing a tutorial really do? The game tells you at every level what you have to do to win. So if people are already not playing the objective, would a forced tutorial really change that?
I mean we have max level servers for people to figure out how to play the game, and well if you are just playing on a regular and get a level one or two on your team shouldn’t you be giving them tips or helping them out anyways?

(Xyfurion) #17

In the end, it is up to the players if they want to do the objective or not. Forcing a tutorial will help those who are brand new to Objective-based FPS games. But those who choose not to do the objective although they full well know they should, those people you cannot get rid of.

(yesser) #18

i guess it could be cool to show in the tutorial that if somone is reparing you dont help by going too . only if you’re faster at getting the job done

YES GOD YES

Also, I’m pretty sure it was my post that you saw. @Xyfurion
