Should I play ranked?

(Dr_Plantboss) #1

I am a relatively new player. Level 11, mostly play medics and engies. I’m not a bad player, but I’m not an exceptional player either. I am on the top half of the scoreboard 90% of the time, and I do try to win.

I’ve been thinking about playing ranked for a while now, but I haven’t felt like I am good enough at the game, and that I would be letting my team down. I know it’s just a game, but what do you guys, the community, think?

If you know maps and know how to revive and/or repair, defuse … you’re already better than some players I’ve met in ranked.
Give it a try
Just keep in mind well balanced matches are rare

You can always try out a ranked match and see how it goes. However I’d consider looking for a group to play ranked with rather than going in on a solo queue. The ranked play times are pretty bad currently though…

So I could also either say… Yes! play ranked! and help to get those queue times down, or I could tell you No! it takes too long! and help create further queue times by telling people not to play ranked.

TL:DR

Yes, you should check out ranked, you have nothing to lose and it will help the queue times for a match go down if more people are playing it.

Try it out but don’t get discouraged by your placement matches. The system will put you against alot better and alot worse players than yourself to correctly determine your rank. After this initial period, you should find more balanced games.

I would, but I only have 2 friends who play dirty bomb, and 1 of them needs a new graphics card and can’t play the game, and the other (I’ll be honest) sucks.

But thanks for the tip!

Nope.

So many disagrees woow.

If you want to waste a good half hour of your life and still not get into a match, go right ahead

(deftMoon) #8

ranked? whats that? ohhh you mean ranked. that ranked. the ranked that its completely broken. I suggest not and stick to min level servers.

It’s 5v5. No amount of casual play will ever prepare you for how vastly different all of the team mechanics are in 5v5. You will either like the 5v5 format, or hate it. You will feel the extra long queue times are worth the 5v5 format, or you won’t. You’ll like Friendly Fire and being TK’d, or you won’t.

Either way, you cannot play enough 6v6/7v7/8v8 to prepare for 5v5. There’s just no similarity between the two formats.

Personally, I think 5v5 is terrible and has extremely few strategic options compared to 6v6. That being said, I can’t stand 8v8, and 7v7 isn’t much better.

Make your own judgement, but I think you should avoid ranked altogether. Just keep playing casual, it’s a lot more fun and diverse.

the mode is cool, but also bugged and with long queue time,

i would recommend you waiting, you will save the frustration fir later on and get better at the game

As MidnightButterSweats said: The way you play ranked is very different compared to the pub games. You have to be at certain points at certain times. You have to know when to push and how to play your roll.
If you fail to do it you can ruin a game for your team and you can experience a huge amount of salt. You’ll be in a team with way more experienced players and it can happen that a gold ranked player gets mad about the unranked guys who are playing a pub style.

Anyways ranked games can be incrdible funny compared to pub games. You can see teamwork and insanly good players dominating the game. You’ll learn much more compared to pub games if you don’t mind waiting 15minutes+ for game.

The best way to start your ranked experience is if you queue up in a duo queue and if your teammate can guide you or if you watch some ranked games/guides on youtube.

If you want to you can check our discord channel and our forum:

We are always looking for new faces to play and chat together. If you want to jump into the ranked pool we can start a session together and you can see if you like it or not.

I would love to see more people playing ranked, just for the reason that the queuing time will be reduced. So I say: Just do it

I will consider that, thank you for your advice.

Should you? No, you shouldn’t.
But you may try it out. Or even like it and keep playing ranked.
Sadly it’s not really worth it and only makes real fun when your team is good and your enemies are good. But try to get such a game. That’s a whole another story.

(hawkeyeguy99) #14

I’ve never had the patience to wait for half an hour for one match. I’d rather go play the awful Counter Strike: Dirty Bomb mode (extinction) than wait that long.

(deftMoon) #15

honestly, the closest to rank is playing 6v6 stopwatch. that might be somehow similar, learning the spawn times and all. It might help but for now, rank is not an option. Just waited 40+ mins and nothing to find a ranked match.

(Ohsnapkline) #16

pretty much this

(Teflon Love) #17

At the moment I recommend to skip it. It could be a lot of fun (small teams, friendly fire) but the match making isn’t quite up to it yet. It’s really rare to have a GG.

(Dr_Plantboss) #18

Looks like I’m going to try it and see if I like it. Thanks for all of your advice!

Also, I’ve been practicing Dirty Bomb a lot recently so I’ve for the past week been topscoring.
I am confident that I can handle skilled players, as I’ve been beating level 30+ consistently. And yes I know that levels aren’t everything, but still…

(DarkMatterMatt) #19

So did you get into a match?

Rumor has it that he is still in queue waiting.
